Neil Warnock is set to bolster his Cardiff attack by landing Lewis Grabban on loan from Bournemouth.

Striker Grabban was recalled from his loan spell at Sunderland earlier this month with Bournemouth hoping to move him on permanently.

But he is poised for another Championship loan spell, this time at promotion-chasing Cardiff.

Grabban, 30, scored 12 goals in 20 appearances for the Black Cats.

I think a loan's much better from our point of view even if comes with a chunky loan fee. He'll have more of an incentive to perform so he gets a good contract somewhere next season.

The issue here I suspect is the agent as usual. Bournemouth want to sell but the agents want the contract paid up. They've gone beyond trying to ensure the player doesn't lose out to a position where they profit from their player being not good enough to get in the team he's contracted to. Just seems wrong to me.

Good point, Paul and only time will tell, if he arrives at the CCS at all

It seems that some people on here are more desperate than the club to get someone/anyone in at the moment or it'll be seen as "all Tan's fault", "the manager misleading the fans", "the club having no ambition", etc., etc.

You know what I mean; it's perpetual from the same old people...the very same ones who will then slate the club and Tan in particular (possibly the biggest and easiest scapegoat in the club's history) for not clearing the debt!

What is the point in brining in players (and I don't mean Grabban; a player I'd like to see here) who are no better than what we have just to appease the fans?

Let Neil Warnock do his job! He knows who/what he wants and he knows both their availability and value.

Thankfully, he's not as profligate as some recent managers and is looking after the club itself, as well as the playing staff!

He's not done too badly so far; or perhaps only the last 5 or 6 games count for some?

Seriously like what??

It makes perfect sense to use the loan market now, we are getting good players without blowing our budget. How much did Norwich pay for the winger reported 5-7m, Liverpool around 6-8m and Grabban available for a reported 4m.

So we have players worth between 15m and 19m for a fraction of the money probably a loan fee. We are also not tied to keeping these players should it not work out. Everyone knows January prices are massively inflated. If we can get Grabban on loan that’s 4m we can use well in January.

Spending money for the sake of it has been the problem for many years.

Yes it's great to get new players in, but not for silly money .
We have been down that road before, just wait until Thursday, all these rumours from the ITK, if half of them were true our debt would be 200m again .
We have a good team that may or may not make the Play offs, costing peanuts in modern football terms.
With our debt going down not up.

Cardiff City are closing in on signing Bournemouth’s Lewis Grabban who enjoyed a fantastic loan spell with Sunderland earlier in the season.

The striker was recalled by the Cherries after becoming a key man at the Black Cats and had been linked with a host of Championship clubs.

Leaders Wolves and Aston Villa were among those credited with an interest but according to the Mirror live blog (12:59), Grabban will spend the rest of the campaign on loan at Cardiff.

Bluebirds boss Neil Warnock had been chasing a striker to complete his January business and Ipswich Town’s David McGoldrick was believed to be under serious consideration after a move for Grabban stalled.

However, the latest report suggests that move is now back on and it will certainly please Cardiff fans.

Grabban has won promotion from this league in the past, helping Norwich to the top-flight but it’s his performances for Sunderland that will appeal the most.

The 30-year old managed to score 12 goals in just 20 games for the struggling north east side which put him as one of the top scorers in the division before he was recalled.

The Verdict

Cardiff have had a very good January and the signing of Grabban would make it an excellent one.

Even though he brings a lot to the table, Kenneth Zohore hasn’t been prolific this season and so Grabban’s goals could be vital in the promotion run-in.

Warnock knew Cardiff needed more depth coming into the window and he will be delighted with how his squad is shaping up.
