Some of those teams gave me great memories of really enjoyable trips following the City, in particular trips to Hereford. It always seemed in those days we would play them up there on a Wednesday night. Great memories of some wild mad times.

Mozzer,
I've been to everyone one of the below grounds and away with Cardiff City
As to Scarborough, I once went there on a midweek night with Cardiff in Div 4 and we took 600 fans

forever blue I hate long distance travel especially by coach that was the main reason I didn't go to those games . I did darlington on the train but hated that too . midlands to London is about the furthest I travel these days within say 3 hours max
the last time I counted I have done 74 away grounds with Cardiff and 5 with Wales but that includes the old brizzle rovers ground , Somerton park , the baseball ground etc

Half of those grounds had open terraces for away fans and invariably it poured down. You'd get soaked through and then have a 3/4 hour trip home. Still, great times following the City who to be honest were normally pretty average at best. Okay, they were crap but it was a laugh.

I've been to exactly half of those grounds (12) which isn't bad for a team who have spent all but 2 years in the top 2 divisions. Most of the grounds that i haven't been to, the last time Villa played there was 1971, 1972 or not at all.
How do you count the grounds you've been to these days? Does Cardiff count twice as I've been to both old and new grounds? I read recently (maybe on here?) that there are around 30 teams who play at new grounds.
Villa are of course very lucky in where we are situated as most grounds are between 2 & 2.5 hours away.
How much would a coach cost from Cardiff to Sunderland or Newcastle? I think I paid about £25 to travel on the coach to yours, earlier in the season.

AV3 I have counted clubs that have had more than 1 ground over the years in my 74 . I have seen Cardiff play brizzle rovers in 3 different grounds for example . eastville , memorial ground and twerton park . another one that springs to mind is arsenal highbury remember going there in about 1980 in a fa cup replay as well as there new ground

Good question AV. Having watched City at 3 different Bristol Rovers venues (Eastville, Twerton park Bath and the memorial ground) I have always described it as one team I've visited. Interested to hear what others say!

I've done 12 of those grounds. The worst thing about living in Australia is missing the football. You lucky bastards!

I’ve not done that many away games due to limited funds when I was younger and the fact I’ve only moved back to Wales a couple of years ago after 20 years living in East England, Northern Scotland and abroad. However, I have fond memories of each trip.
Leyton Orient: I was the first person in the ground as I didn’t go to the pub, something that anyone who knows me wouldn’t believe these days. We lost 4-1,with Philliskirk putting us 1 up with his first goal for the club. An ex Jack scored either 2 or 3 against us (I think his name was Colin West) which totally ruined the day.
Lincoln City: I took 2 English mates with me (a Sheff Wed fan and a Man City fan). The Cardiff fans were getting quite feisty with the police with some fans making anti-English remarks. The Wednesday fan had a Cardiff City scarf tied around his head and the Man City fan had a Welsh flag draped over his body. They both joined in the songs, but none of them engaged in open conversation, probably out of fear.

With a few minutes of the game to go, I realised I’d forgot my clothes to go out in the night as we were staying in a Lincoln based hotel. With just 5 minutes to get an entire outfit, I panicked and picked up the first things I seen. I ended up hitting Lincoln town centre in a pair of 70’s style flares that you’d probably get from a charity shop for fancy dress and looked like a right tool. We won at Lincoln, but I can’t remember the score. These same mates came with me to Oldham, where we also stayed and had a great night getting drunk with the Oldham fans whilst getting them to do the ayatollah. They were surprised and actually commented that they thought all Cardiff fans were hooligans.
Hereford: It was a Sunday game and we parked in the car park near the ground. The ticket meter swallowed pound after pound of our limited cash, before we read that we didn’t have to pay on a Sunday. The game finished 1-1.
Torquay: The pasties were nice, but I can’t remember the score.

Agree Midlands clubs are lucky in getting to away games. Its not so much the cost its the time. Newcastle is 7 hours away with a stop off. Leave at 5.30, back in the house after 1 am. We only have one club within 100 miles.

good question that, been to around 120 grounds to watch football league games but I just counted current grounds in the top four divisions and i have been to 78, only team in that table i havent been to is exeter, one of those ones where i always seemed to have something on, even been saying for a few years i am going to go there with my county mates just to say i have done it but it just aint happening for me.
Dont know about a bus to sunderland but i jumped on a bus to Burton and i think it was 25 so that sounds about right, I work most saturdays now so my second away game of the season coming up saturday Bristol City away, last time i went there Andy Cole was 18 and scored a hat trick against us, looks like a new ground nowadays.

I'm exactly the same with Brighton. We haven't played there that many times but I've missed every time we have played. Other than that, I've been to Huddersfield old ground but not the new one. In our division, I've just got Brentford to do as we played there for the very first time last season. Doubt I'll do it this year given the small allocation plus it being on Boxing day.

I used to count as you do Dai but my feeling is the old "do all 92 grounds" challenge is not possible these days given the constant changes at the bottom. In the old days, teams weren't automatically relegated, they were re-elected. I think that Barrow or Workington were the first side I saw lose their league status, followed by Southport.
These days, I class every stadium I visit as a new one, so in my book Ninian Park & CCS count as 2 different grounds. I've long stopped craving to do every ground because I now accept that I never will, especially with all the changes that happen. I do add up out of interest now and again though.

think its a personal choice...some count grounds they have visited but not watched a game..others count grounds where they were neutral..ive done both ..but the one i keep track of is where ive watched Cardiff play a league game and i count venues not teams.it stands at 101 but only 70 are current due to new grounds and clubs dropping out of the league.

I have done them all bar Grimsby and Carlise, although I did travel to Carlise and got to the place only to be cancelled

About 2 years ago, I wrote everyone of them down, sad aren't I.
I moved to Mallorca 18months ago, already having visited 3 Atletico Baleares & 2 Mallorca grounds and done a total of 769 grounds, and last month I went away to Formetera with them and that made 770 grounds.
This week I am going away on Wednesday to watch Atletico in Ibiza, so that will be 771 football grounds
