One reasons why our away support is so bad is you just can't go to an away match , without membership numbers, or gold cards, balls to that, back in the day you would be out on the piss Friday night someone would say fancy going to where ever tomorrow and you woulld jump on a train next day, no hassle.

true woody I only mentioned that in another thread the other day . membership cards ,fan numbers etc what a load of bollux

think in the 80's and 90's I tended to do that every other week ! remember the persil train tickets in the 80's where we would just go away for a fiver and pay on the gate . these days even if you take inflation would now cost 80 quid .lol

sky television money has changed everything fan wise for the worse when I think about it now

Thats very true Joe public cannot get tickets so how can they go? Just because we have 13k ST holders doesn't mean we have lots of them able to go away ? Perhaps thats the clubs fault and its supporters clubs fault for not pressing club to relax criteria so that ordinary fans can go away that we are low in numbers?

How many have Bristol brought to us in recent years?

Been many times, easy to get to but not that enjoyable.

I said the same the other day mate, got 8 of us wanting to go, only 2 are season ticket holders, unless I can sort something out in the next few days none of us will probably go, the other 6 go now and again here and there, for example 2 are coming down today as their game is off, I just paid £54 for two tickets in the Ninian Stand for them £27 each  I had the same issue with Fulham

Luke, their last two visits they sold their full allocations including a Friday night live on Sky.

They did bring only a 1,000 the year they got relegated, but that was virtually a bubble game.

City are riding high and to be fair, great atmosphere and a good local derby match on my 15 visits :thumbright: :bluebird: :bluebird: :bluebird:

I do agree Memberships are pathetic and puts some fans off, but for the last 4 years 90% of Cardiff away games have been pay on the day, without membership and well advertised.

Pay on the day is put out 5 days before on FB and Twitter to 60,000 Cardiff Fans.

Plus most clubs have memberships for away games, Millwall, Leeds,Villa, Derby,Sheff Wed etc etc

How come we sold our away allocations in Premier League? 3,500 to many away games and it was harder to get a ticket, it was Gold card,Season Ticket,Memberships only.

I've always found when fans want to travel they will and if they really want to go to the match, they get a ticket and its been proven every time City fans turn up three times a season No one is left outside, even Brentford away when 5,500 City went there, we had hundreds in the home end, I was one of them  :thumbright:

I agree for 90% of the games have been pay on the day but for the vast majority of those you've not known that until you've reached the turnstile. Its a big ask to travel across the country on spec. I've done it loads and always got in but quite often only thanks to Vince or Lindsey having spares. Actually I didn't get in at Gloucester in the cup.

I took 4 kids to a match at Bolton a few years back and there was no way they were letting us in. Vince came to the rescue with some spares. Last year Brentford - absolutely no pay on the day. I 'd convinced relatives from the midlands to come along. Got to the turnstiles nice and early but absolutely no spares. Shit what do we now ? Might as well try the ticket office and to my surprise they sold us 4 for the away end no problems.

Its only the last couple of years I've not had a season ticket and to be honest I doubt I'll have one again. Always love the football, fantastic value for money but really struggle with the driving. I have however bought a membership this year though.

They should relent on the membership though. Perhaps allow members / season ticket holders to buy 2 on a membership but crucially let kids tickets be bought without membership. We have to get kids following the city again.

These are good ideas. I've got groups of youngsters booking with me and I'm struggling with fan numbers.
Often these are kids who can't go every week and are just getting into it. Most kids are skint these days, so it's tough telling them they have to get their own membership.

It's definitely going to affect numbers next week as it's expensive enough as it is.

Kids without membership or 2 tickets per member would help a lot

Annis, I've asked about pay on the day for a few games this season and only been told a day or 2 before.

There's no consistency, and as for other clubs with membership the likes of a Leeds and Wednesday are a completely different thing to us.

They are bigger clubs who regularly sell out and have loads of local derbies. They get membership to ensure the regulars get first crack.

In our case I'm struggling to see why it can't at least be partially relaxed.

In terms of our bus I can tell you that it has DEFINITELY put some off.and I'm sure we aren't the only ones.

In premier we had 25k ST plus thousands of memberships compared to 13k St now also bigger draw teams in premiership! Why try compare 2 totally different leagues? Answer why are games members only or St only when we have allocation well above the expected following for the game, Fans have Fans have to either get membership or ask to borrow fan numbers
Ridiculous situation to have when complaining about poor following.

Tim, I always ring someone and have put it out 5 days before.

Lets be honest Barnsley,Preston,Fulham,Norwich,Ipswich,Boro,Sunderland,Derby,Sheffield Wednesday,Bolton,Hull, Reading etc have all been guaranteed pay on the days the last 4 years.

Plus it never hurt us when we were in the Premier League.

Burnley away, was pay on the day and really well advertised for two weeks, yet we only took 1,300 fans to win the Championship and we had a 3,500 allocation. I went up and pay on the day :thumbright:

Tim, Why do we make out everything is against us and every excuse.

Millwall, Bradford,Pompey all have away memberships.

Bristol Rovers,Carlisle, Lincoln,Plymouth, Grimsby,Sheff United, Bradford City,Exeter,Wrexham etc etc all travel hundreds of miles and go away in massive numbers and don't moan.
About weather, sky tv,night game, change of kick off, distance, always in the lower leagues.

Yes I would like the Membership got rid of as that would be one less excuse.

Ok, forget Premier League, match kick off changes, high prices, sky tv and yet we always sold out.

Annis. What I am telling you is genuine.
Believe it or not.

These are reasons some people don't travel.

You should see my texts - and what had to be done.

Birmingham for example was originally looking like it was pay on the gate- until the day before.

Quite a few others we've been hanging on for, but by the time it's confirmed people have made other arrangements

I had a group of 9 coming on the back of it they then pulled out.

Young lads, who I've asked about Bristol and not heard back off. What's the point if they can't get tickets ? Another group want to book 11/12 on, but can only get 2 tickets... what do I do ?

It's not excuses. As far as I'm concerned I'd like bigger followings and try to encourage it, but it's up to the individual what they do and for many they aren't prepared to put the effort in as they are at other clubs.

That's just the way it is.

On our day we can take 4K to Fulham, cheap tickets, shortish trip, plenty of allocation and guaranteed pay on the gate. Like a lot of other clubs. Playing the same away for the 12th time in 13 years and having a 4-5 hour journey to pay £30+ will mean just a few hundred.

Each club has its own circumstances and these are ours - like it or not.

As fo Bristol, with 1800 gone on Monday I'd expect we are close to 2500 now, and will probably be near 3k in the end.

If the membership rules were relaxed slightly then we'd sell out the 3400 allocation.

Older fans move on eventually- young fans need to be encouraged not put off.

Tim, I do agree with you, its hard for our younger fans as the Authorities have not helped at all.
Civil bans, told of for scratching their heads, membership cards etc.
Personally I would abolish it all.

But how do other clubs still take big numbers away and smaller clubs than ours?
Why do we make out its only our club?
Millwall fans have massive restrictions.

By the way every club takes thousands away to Fulham, thats been happening for years going way back to the 80's/90's.
Yes City took 3,300 away brilliant to Fulham, but the average Championship club takes 3,500 there.

For me Bristol City / Reading away should be the two away matches that we should sell out No matter what.
Its not like going to Barnsley,Preston etc.

Bristol City are taking away 2,000 fans to Sunderland next Saturday, virtually the same travelling distance as us,we took just over 600 fans.

Sheffield United sold out last night

Tim,

Bradford are travelling nearly a 560 mile rd trip to Pompey today and 1,000 fans are going, from a very poor area.

Tim, Watch out, the next excuse will be the cold weather.

Me and the lad are a classic case in point. We have to pick and choose our City games as he plays for the local U7 on a Saturday morning and is often knackered, cold and needing a bath to warm up after playing several games especially at this time of year and further into the winter.

We are heading to the Bridgewater Carnival on the day of the Bristol match and would probably have done a side trip to the match had it not been for the rigmarole and cost of the memberships plus the ticket prices. It would be north of £100 for one match - yes I know the memberships allow for away tickets throughout the year but with his prior match commitments it makes for very few opportunities to make anything further than perhaps Bristol - so at £100+ for one match its a bit steep!!

Much rather see 4 'chosen' home matches for that kind of outlay!

Annis, I've asked about pay on the day for a few games this season and only been told a day or 2 before.

There's no consistency, and as for other clubs with membership the likes of a Leeds and Wednesday are a completely different thing to us.

They are bigger clubs who regularly sell out and have loads of local derbies. They get membership to ensure the regulars get first crack.

In our case I'm struggling to see why it can't at least be partially relaxed.

In terms of our bus I can tell you that it has DEFINITELY put some off.and I'm sure we aren't the only ones.

Annis, the club and police told me last week at the SLO meeting that we can have up to 3400.

Leeds had 3700 the capacity of the Stand, so I'd guess there's 300 off for extra segregation .

I've see. 2 figures given for Villas allocation 3635 and 3900 - according to this link which gives all Bristols away figures they actually took 3100 there

This is a really interesting summary of average away fans, home, net home and ave that come to each ground so far this season

Look at Leeds- no one wants to go there !

membership should be a fiver..
im sure if it was we would have many more members.
would take away issues for fans and coach operators re fan numbers
club would have a better idea of who is actually attending as opposed to what fan numbers have been used.
and the club would have up to date info on all these people to mail or email news of any offers etc.

Def a shame Paulh as Our fans say other clubs take 4,000 plus because they only travel 40-60 miles, well City are travelling 38 plus miles :thumbright: :bluebird: :bluebird:

This is brilliant Tim, Cheers, I am going to really study it and put it out proper later in the week :thumbright: :thumb right:

Tim, Cardiff are the 6th highest visiting supporters with an average of 2,144, that puts to bed that No one comes to Cardiff.
Plus our home average is only 18,696 if you take away the away support.

Bradford home average minus away fans 19,227.

So an average of 944 away fans have visited Bristol City.

10th best home supported 23,732 minus away support.

Cardiff are 11th best supported at home in the Championship 5,000 less than 10th, minus home support. 18,696.
