THE GROUNDS TO BIG and as for loyalty, Cardiff fans have never been loyal, not in big numbers anyway. Small hardcore support with an abundance of glory supporters.
We have got a 33,000 capacity and have never been anywhere near close to filling it, in fact we have never had crowds close to that figure since the 1950's.
18,000 in Ninian Park was awsome, 18,000 in the CCS is only just over half full and people are just to spread out and you have vast open spaces which hinders the atmosphere.
As much as I love it for Wales games. purely from a Cardiff City angle, putting that new stand up so quick before we had established ourselves for at least a good 3-4 years was massive mistake.

Spot on. I guess tan also blames malky for that huge financial mistake that is the red elephant.

Wales used to play to poor crowds and dismal atmospheres when they weren't so successful. Now they're riding the crest of the wave and inevitably there's a bandwagon effect. Exactly the same could happen with Cardiff City.
I don't think constructing the ground with a 33k capacity is a mistake at all. It gives our support room to grow and, to get anywhere near successful you have to set your goals higher. To build a stadium with less than 25 or even 30k capacity would have been to constrain our belief in ourselves. Deliver continuing success and 33k will soon be far too small for us.

Exactly this, ninian park more often than not was a morgue except for a hard core 300 in the middle of the Bob bank.

The Grange roof was double canted and low to the pitch, which lent itself to a good atmosphere, and was designed to keep the rain out. The Bob roof was also comparatively low.
The designers of the new place, for some bizarre reason, drew up a single canted roof which lets the rain in and destroys the atmosphere, which is piss poor, and should not have been built this way, in this climate.
I think its to ensure the CCTV can keep an eye on the crowd. Could be they just want people to get wet.

Spot on. Those who turned up once in a blue moon for big cup ties, the Jacks or promotion parties might have witnessed NP at it's best but for the most it part it was more dead than CCS is now.
The truth hurts but if we want to solve this then we must tackle the elephant in the room so to speak. The only thing to survive from NP is the fans the same ones which made the atmosphere crap 90% of the time there. We are the Peter Whittingham's of club football fans brilliant beyond our capability on our day, but go missing for 4 out of 5 games. Even when we score we aren't that good, there will be one loud chant on Laaaaaaa City! and then total silence as no-one knows what to follow it up with.
What is missing is the passion which comes shining through in droves when we are on our game, along with some new novel songs (can't remember the last one which wasn't nicked off another club). Whatever the reason for this lack of passion (and I'm sure there are loads of theories) it is time for a group of fans to get hold of the problem and start injecting some. Being top of the league with 5 wins out of 5 seems like a great time start.

The new stand in itself, was not a mistake. It's there, it's paid for, it's not used yet, so it doesnt contribute to a atmosphere void. We had the opportunity to expand the ground with EUFA paying most of the bill. That's good business, good timing and good sense.
Atmosphere is made by people not seats. I actually think that it bubbles along nicely at CCS at the minute and it will improve if the results continue to go well.
Stop worrying and enjoy.
See you all at Fulham.

City Slicker wrote:Unfortunately success breeds success. It's generational. If the City moved to the top tier, stays there and develops, thousands of youngsters will suddenly switch their allegiances to Cardiff and drag their parents down. It's only when these kids get older and start bringing their own kids down that the core of dedicated support increases. Had we stayed in the Premier then by now the hard core of support would have increased incrementally. Thankfully, the red nonsense is a thing of the past so if the "glory hunters" do return in their droves there won't be the same I'll feeling towards them. If we can get some of them "hooked" over a period and their kids in turn, we will have significantly increased our support base. Hopefully at the expense of the likes of Liverpool, Man Up and Chelsea etc.

Again, absolutely right.
Regarding the "missing passion", is it really too difficult to rectify? For example, didn't Crystal Palace have a similar fan based problem a few years ago, until a group of their fans got together & started up that "Ultra" stuff???

Good point we really need an 'Ultra' style fan group to inject some missing passion back into CCS.
