The Ayatollah - a debate needed?

Wed Jun 07, 2017 1:19 pm

In the light of recent tragic events, do the readers of this forum think that it is a bit distasteful to carry on with The Ayatollah, or is it a completely separate thing to be continued?

No particular viewpoint myself - just wondered what peoples thoughts were?

Hmmm, surely you have a viewpoint as you thought to bring it up! ;)

My own opinion is that I rarely do it anyway (recent years haven't generated the 'feel good' factor that usually precedes its usage) but it's up to others to decide if they want to do it or not and nothing sinister should be read into it or a fuss made :thumbright: :ayatollah:

Being a bit to PC I think personally. Totally over-thinking things.

The Ayatollah is a Shia leader/wind up merchant -in Iran.

Just as hated by ISIS and the Saudi/Qatari funded sunni lunatics as we are.

Think most football fans and media know we do it and have done it for years and is harmless , don't think anyone will think we are doing it because of recent events :ayatollah:

Actually ISIS tried to blow up the Ayatollah's grave today.

I read a while back. Don't remember where. Only Cardiff city fans could take a symbol of grief and turn it into a celebration. Its ingrained in the culture of the club.

Think you (OP) need to.
1, do some homework before making such a statement.
2. put the glue back in the cupboard.
3. collect your payment from Annis for creating a thread to maximise hits. ( only joking Annis please no ban again ) :D
4.try and delete it and pretend you were hacked.

I think whatever to historical and cultural connotations linked with the Ayatollah gesture are it has become owned by our fans with its own history now. I know some Cardiff fans hate it because they were around before it was introduced but it's always been a part of the club for the majority of the time I've been watching Cardiff. I think it's great we have it and I know a lot of fans from other clubs who think it's a good thing for us to have. It looks impressive when thousands of us do it. Remember the Wembley trips when we all did it? Some fantastic images there. :ayatollah:

I don't see an issue in it if people feel they want to, don't see why it would offend.

It does come across as very silly though.

Thanks for all the SENSIBLE replies, rather than those who showed their immaturity with references to 'lay off the glue' etc.

I was hoping for a stimulating debate - as I say I have no thoughts one way or the other - it's just that I overheard a convo in a restaurant about the same topic, and wondered what peoples thoughts were. Some constructive comments on here, some unfortunately showing exactly how few brain cells they own
