What caused more people to stop supporting City?

The Rebrand?

Relegation?

The truly awful football we played in our first season back in the Championship (we might have been winning more last season, but the quality of football wasn't much better than it had been a year earlier)?

A dislike of "the modern game"?

For me, I'd say the biggest reason for what is a pretty widespread loss of enthusiasm was the first of the reasons I named, but an awful lot of people I talk to say things like "the shit football we played under Slade was the final straw for me", so I might well be wrong.

I still go more for my son and go on supporters club

the chelsea game. i think a hell of a lot of people realised after that it was game over.
huge turn out that day and could easily have been more , havent really seen demand to go anywhere near that since.

I've said for years it's after the Chelsea game, that people stopped going, it was the end ov an era for most, considering the prison sentences and bans our fans had.
I take my kids a few times a season, but for me the proper days have gone. That's my opinion only mind, before I start getting a load ov sh##. Bloooooooobirds

I know a few glory hunters who reverted to being plastic Man U and Liverpool fans when City got relegated.

For me it was after I re-newed my ST to face the thought that my seat faced the pitch :)

I don't think that many people have stopped supporting us. We just had a decade of success and attracted a load of new fans who were only interested in a winning team. As soon as the good times ended. it was inevitable that they would drift away and we are left with those who will support the team whatever.

What caused more people to stop supporting City?

With the exception of the rebrand (a few) and people just not enjoying it anymore (a few) the true answer is simply that the thing that caused more people to stop supporting the City is when we are not doing well.

It is written in our history, one look at our attendance history will show you that.

The rebrand.
Many people fell out of love with the club solely due to that and have never returned.

the regulars continued to go though. with only a few taking up the offer of refunds on their STs.
i do know a few that say this about the rebrand but they hardly went anyway.

People weren't voting with their feet during the promotion season or the Prem season. Only when with Ole being perceived as useless and Slade coming in and there was a clear change in policy at the club to sell and stay in the division did the attendances start to nose dive.

The sacking of MM ;) Just look at what happened after that and the season after .

The re brand was there under MM - but money was wasted at that " CLUELESS CLOWN - OGS " :!: :!: :!:

Re: What caused more people to stop supporting City?

I don't see how people can say the rebrand when we had high attendances the season we went up and sold out every game in the prem as far as I'm aware. So to me that's puts dropping attendances purely down go success. For many years now we have been pushing for promotions be it in any league, we also had the Carling cup final and the FA cup final which kept people interested. As it stands people this season had little to look forward too.

If we do well next season the fans will come back.

The list is endless but I really think that Warnock can not just help with the team having winning ways but he can help with the running of the club too.

If he gets the money and we are doing better next season I believe you will see a bigger attendances at home and away some will come back and yes you will get some glory supporters too but many teams have that.

I still remember getting to the play off final against Qpr and my son who was 8 asking why it took me so long to get tickets down at Ninian park as he thought we only had 18000 at most and all of a sudden 35000 had tickets and the same would happen again if we drew Man U in the Fa cup or got promoted again

Re: What caused more people to stop supporting City?

Thu Apr 13, 2017 10:48 pm

The simple answer is both !! A lot of long term supporters left over the re brand and many of them haven't come back.
And because we got promoted to the Premiere we accumulated a lot of new supporters and to be fair this happens and would happen to a every club.
But when we got relegated all those fans fecked off and the only way they will be back is if we get back to the Prem. So here we are thanks to Tan and his re brand we are missing old supporters and all the plastics of whom I hate much more than proper Jacks.

Agree, and it's revelant to success.

Pretty much all of the guys I go to football with still go, but much less. And that goes for me as well, the 3 hour trip down the m4 becomes a lot less attractive when we're playing Burton in a mid tale clash.

You cant use the rebrand as a reason when the fact is our crowds increased directly after it.

Its down to success, simple as that

The crowds increased due to a new glory hunting fan appearing, many even wearing Welsh rugby shirts, as soon as we came back down they were gone, they were not real Cardiff City fans. I never recognised many of them at away games and never seen them again.

You moan about attendances being low but when people do come to watch they are glory hunters, come on annis make ypur mind up do you want more fans to watch us or not ? You cant have it both ways

Wez, these people were, I walked in to a pub for Chelsea away, never recognised one face, started chatting to them and they were given tickets by our club (Premier Seats) and never seen them since. United away some people paid £200 for a tickets and never went to another away game.

Yes to be a big club, you have to take on glory hunters that I accept, but that does not mean I have to like them.

By the way Wez,I moan that we have lost our hardcore away support due to rebrand, police and the way our club treated our fans during those two years of going up/Prem year.

What people are failing to mention that the fixtures have changed in recent years, where you have two away games then two home games on the trot this cant of helped

I am sure Chelsea away in the premier league was reduced allocation and you had to have been to a minimum six away games the previous season.

Almost all of the premier away games had some sort of criteria on there so it should have been the regular away fans travelling ?

If fans couldnt make it, usually easy enough to use another fans number even if you havent watched Cardiff all season.

As soon as Premiership football does or if it does come back to Cardiff you will see 25k+ home gates and 2000 away gates.

Absolutely correct. This is not something new the same thing has happened at plenty of other clubs playing in the Premiership/Football League pyramid.

Mind you it is not all bad news as our natural home support in the final few seasons at NP was 10-12k. Now we are doing badly because only 15-16k turn up?
