NO NEW STRIKER COMING IN/WARNOCK SAYS "I WANT TO BE BACKED"

Wednesday 25th January 2017

Cardiff City manager speaks after last nights defeat to Brighton.

Cardiff City: Boss Warnock doubts new striker signing this season, but wants backing next season.

Cardiff City's Championship record under Neil Warnock is won seven, lost five, drawn four.

Cardiff City manager Neil Warnock doubts he will sign a new striker before the transfer window closes on 31 January.

The Bluebirds failed to take their chances as they lost 1-0 at promotion challengers Brighton in the Championship last night.

Warnock says it would be "nice" to add up to two new players to his squad, but recruiting a striker is unlikely.

In the meantime, Warnock says he is "quite happy with what we've got this season".

He added: "I think the club's got to look more for quality strikers, quality signings in the summer, really, we need to stregthen."
"I expect to be backed,if not theres no point staying."

Warnock has hinted strongly he may not stay beyond the end of the season unless owner Vincent Tan backs his recruitment plans for a promotion challenge next season and Warnock is not asking for a huge budget.

Cardiff have won nine league games this season, losing 12 and drawing six. They have won four of their past 10 matches.

They are 16th in the table, level on 33 points with Brentford, who are above them, and Queens Park Rangers, below.

Warnock Said "Cardiff can go anywhere and give teams a good game"

Saturday's trip to Reading is next for Warnock and his players.

"It's difficult, but we've got 20 games to get to that magic 50 points and the sooner we get there the better," said Warnock.

"We've got some tough games away from home, but as you've seen at Brighton, I think we can go anywhere and give teams a good game."

Thanks to Neil Warnock City are now 8pts above the bottom three :thumbright: :ayatollah: :bluebird:

If only he had had a proper striker, goalie and a bit of money we prob would of made the play-offs this season :bluebird:

I am not trying or feeling negative about this before the trolls start!

It's the same old story starting to come out of the club down to one player coming in?? I would lay money on it that we don't get anyone in.

If that's the case the summer window will go same way and NW will be gone. Bit of a gamble by VT if it does.

Hope I am wrong but same phrases being turned out yet again.

If we had in Warnock from the start of the season, had kept Marshall, and spent the Ricky Lambert money more wisely, I am convinced we would be in the top 6! Warnock needs to be backed for next season!

Agree with your comments however I would like to add that having Warnock for the start of the season would have made a huge difference as well.

I really liked Tollope but the fact he was away with Wales in the summer therefore didnt have time/focus on Cardiff plus his inexperience in Championship meant that it wasn't a huge surprise the way we started.

Fingers crossed we pick something up on Saturday as I dont see any reason why not after last night :bluescarf:

If they don't back Neil in the summer, I fear we will fall by the way side and be an average championship club fighting relegation each season.

We were unlucky to lose to Brighton, one moment of lapse by Bamba cost us but that Hemed is formidable up top for Brighton, I doubt De Gea would have saved that shot.

Zahore has showed in past 2 games why he is nowhere near as good as people think he is or can be.

It is lamentable that a £25k a week proven striker sits on the bench when he would have been what was needed v Burton & last night to beef up a powderpuff attack.

If Lambert is going or not going to play then City desperately need a goalscorer to get the necessary points to guarantee survival this season. We won't get enough points relying on the odd goal from a midfielder or defender if our current first choice no 9 is so impotent.

So it seems imperative that a new striker comes in.

Karl, If Warnock is not backed next season then No one can blame him if he walks away this summer.

They've brought Warnock in, finally the right and proven manager and they are not backing him in my eyes.

Warnocks keeps coming out loud and clear and is telling everyone whats really going on and is virtually saying back me or I am off.

Jimbo, Your totally spot on, Warnock has stated clearly Marshall would not have left if he had been here and Lambert is not even getting a start.
It was said on here by the same old names, good business selling Marshall

I think we would all like to see Warnock remain for next season and be given a decent budget to bring in some quality players. I don't think it will happen, and as I have said many times before, Tan has had his fingers burnt once before, i don't think he will do it again. I believe that we will continue to be working within a tight budget, and looking for bargain buys and free transfers. Hope I'm wrong but I don't think I am, and would be surprised if Warnock is able to bring much in during this window, even if we are able to offload a few of our players.

Hi Annis,

Just my feeling same old dribble being delivered by the club.

It's pretty obvious if NW had 9m on one player he would get 6 for that. Unfortunately the club can now hide behind FFP rules lol.

Like I said I have that feeling once again no one else coming in (hope I am wrong) poor old NW must be wondering what he got himself into and a few clubs might tap him up.

As another thread posted if we don't sign a striker then bring Saadi back and give him a chance

if tan doesnt back him in the summer all the good work from warnock to unite the fans and get them off tans back and actually support the team again will have been for nothing and i dare to say for many would be the final straw and a lot of people wouldnt return again, its last chance saloon for tan and his cronies get it right now or else watch your investment get flushed down the bog

Morning Karl, I have No faith in Tan or his committee.

Warnock is proven and won't waste money.

They need to back him or otherwise they should never have brought Warnock in.

If there's no striker coming in this window then surely he can call Saadi back?! Warnock has never ever mentioned him in all his interviews I've seen. Does he even know he exists?! He's fast and powerful, all the things Warnock is looking for.

No Halford was a free and his wages are very small, he is a good support to the squad please dont talk about Halford being a waste of money with the history of this clubs signings under Trollop and ole plus the lad has played 2 games talk about picky supporters you have give a chance he might turn into a great signing.

Managers are giving 12 games you have to give players a chance too , drogba was rubbish in his first season but chelsea stayed loyal and look what he did for that club, not saying we will get a drogba but you have to give players a chance that is including Richards if they try sadly Em Hughes looks totally not interested

I don't think you are wrong,I read that Warnock said he was happy with the players he's got which is total nonsense of course, any manager worth his salt should always be looking to bring better players into his squad

This sounds rather ominous.

Obviously Warnock has not been given any assurances about funds for next season and it would seem that he has been told that there is no money available for this transfer window.

All this talk by Warnock that this squad is good enough for this season is in my opinion a smokescreen - Warnock knows that he is lumbered with a large squad of players who are nowhere near good enough but he cannot risk alienating them as he still needs them to perform to a certain level this season as we most certainly are not safe yet.

A manager of his experience can undoubtedly tell that we have too much dead wood and the problem is that we have virtually no players who would attract a transfer fee to free up some funds or wages.

Hopefully Tan has just said to Warnock that he'll see how this season goes before making any decision on next season and in many ways that is understandable. If however Tan's ambition for the club does not extend beyond staying in this division (which the past few managerial appointments would seem to indicate may be the case) then we are going to lose Warnock at the end of the season and I don't see how he could be criticised in any way for walking away.

We'd be there abouts, especially if we started with Warnock. The goalkeeper situation has cost us arguably 6-9 points this season from mistakes and beyond poor shot stopping. And we all know how many chances we've wasted to score through lack of a finisher.

How can you say Halford is a waste of money? He's played in two games ffs.
He had a poor first game, but who actually played well in that match? I wasn't there, but apparently, he played well last night.
He cost us sod all and was brought in to be a squad player and not necessarily an ever present first team player.
