Sol Bamba: Cardiff City defender given two game ban for violent conduct

Cardiff City defender Sol Bamba has received an initial two game ban for his dismissal against Ipswich Town.

The Bluebirds are waiting to discover whether the FA will take more action against the Ivory Coast defender over his red card.

Sol Bamba apologises to Neil Warnock and team-mates after red card

By SSN HQ

12/12/16

Cardiff's Sol Bamba argued with the fourth official and his own manager Neil Warnock after being sent off against Ipswich Town

Cardiff defender Sol Bamba has apologised to manager Neil Warnock and his team-mates after losing his cool and lashing out following a tackle by Ipswich Town's Jonathan Douglas.

The defender received a red card after he shoved his own physio before venting his anger on team-mates, the referee James Adcock, the fourth official and finally his manager.

Sky Sports News HQ understands Bamba, signed on a free by Warnock as soon as he arrived in South Wales, will receive a significant fine from his club and a warning as to his future conduct.

But first, he will have to deal with an FA ban.

On Monday the FA will consider the referee's report with a minimum four-match ban expected for the red card and using aggressive behaviour towards a match official.

People can say it's harsh but it was a stupid thing to do. Let's hope our defence can hold it together now.

4 match ban is ridiculous and it appears he's been made an example of, you see people get less for career ending tackles.

Agree there what about Rojo's two footed tackle against Everton last week, all he got was a yellow card!

Mmmmmm

He was stupid and it's probably fair. It was a nasty challenge on him and I am guessing not the first. I understand that you get annoyed with officials when you think they have ignored such obvious fouls.

However I wish the authorities would also make an example of the cheats - Dele Allis dive against the jacks and Snodgrass's dive against palace on the weekend. Both appalling and should not have any place on the football pitch.

You cannot be serious? 4 match ban is getting of lightly.

It is an automatic 3 match ban for a straight red for violent conduct. So adding 1 game for trying to get to the ref, pushing the manager, physio, 4th official and bringing the game into disrepute is amazingly lenient!

The fine should mean his ban is relatively cost neutral for FFP ;)

1. He didn't try to get to the referee he was trying to get to the Ipswich player stood next to the referee.

2. There are no rules regarding pushing your managers arm off you when your managers is manhandling you by your collar.

3. He didn't push the fourth official he remenstrated with him about no action being taken for a bad tackle.

Honestly mate you have blown that incident up big time.

The guy lost his head after what he thought was a nasty challenge...it wasn't pretty and he shouldn't have done it...he apologised and will probably get a 2 week wages fine...just give him the 3 match ban and a warning...let's just get on with It this is getting blown out of all proportion!!!

Sol Bamba: Cardiff City defender given two game ban for violent conduct

BBC

12/12/16

Cardiff City defender Sol Bamba has received an initial two game ban for his dismissal against Ipswich Town.

The Bluebirds are waiting to discover whether the FA will take more action against the Ivory Coast defender over his red card.

Bamba confronted the referee and fourth official and his own manager Neil Warnock, following an angry reaction to a tackle by Ipswich's Jonathan Douglas.

Bamba will miss home matches with Wolves and Barnsley this week.

Cardiff boss Neil Warnock expects Sol Bamba to be charged with violent conduct and banned for at least three games after his reaction to being sent off in the 1-1 draw at Ipswich.

Warnock has not ruled out the club taking disciplinary action.

"You can't condone that," said Warnock.

"I've not seen that part of him before, but he was absolutely furious. He'll get violent conduct and banned for three games and quite rightly so.

"He was a bit big for me. I could not get him around the neck. I'll have to grow a bit. But he is distraught in there, and quite rightly so."

Not the best reaction from Sol but it's all been blown massively out of proportion. A two game ban is fair. Sol has been an absolute rock since he's arrived and has shown no shortage of fight or dedication. He has my full support and I'm sure he will prove to be a key figure in the months ahead!

Spot on mate I've been saying this for years, the only way to stamp out diving is for official to be able to hand out bans after matches.

Re: UPDATED ' SKY BREAKING NEWS SOL BAMBA '

If Sol had committed the tackle he would have had a straight red.

Re: UPDATED ' SKY BREAKING NEWS SOL BAMBA '

It just shows how bad Douglas's tackle was. For Bamba just having a two game ban.
Sol acted wrongly, but if the referee doesn't protect players, sometimes players have to protect themselves.
Fine him donate it too a Children's charity for Xmas and move on .

The 2 match ban shows just how over the top and exaggerated your post was.

A 2 game ban is one less than we expected, presumably because he apologised quickly. Also, it was his first red card for 7 years. Fine a weeks wages to charity and make him be Santa at the kids Christmas party and let's draw a line under it. A weeks rest will do him good ready for Christmas. :bluescarf:

Disagree completely, just as you would not agree that my post was spot on if he was handed a 4/5 match ban (which was absolutely possible). We have differing views. I 100% stand by everything I have said. You cannot go around acting like that. People have been given a 3 match ban for violent conduct before. He got a 2 match ban for violent conduct and absoutely nothing for the behaviour immediately after. Amazing result, and he can thank his lucky stars.

Exactly what I said Saturday night. Not blowing it out of proportion and supporting a player that has been outstanding for us since his arrival.
People saying he should never play for us again was just

Not at all, I have never given an anti bluebird comment in my life. It is just a realistic take on the situation, a 2 game ban is less than the vast majority of people expected (Warnock included), by definition that means he can count himself lucky. Or do I have to be pretending he doesn't deserve a ban so people don't be mean to me on the internet for not conforming to pointless one eyed views? I have always and will always have a reqlistic outlook on matters, I can't understand why anyone would want to take any other view tbh.

But you didn't just comment did you? You totally exaggerated and misrepresented his actions in order to condemn him. For what purpose?

If you look at what he actually did then perhaps you will agree that it has been blown up out of proportion. Obviously the FA agree. He has made a proper apology. Show some support for someone who has shown some passion for the shirt.

PLAYERS SENT OFF UNDER LAW 12 (6)
A Player who is dismissed from the Field of Play for using offensive or insulting or abusive language/gestures, whether he has previously been cautioned in the match or not, will be suspended automatically from FTCM commencing forthwith, and until such time as his Club’s First Team has completed its next two FTCM.

Bamba has not been done for violent conduct but for giving the 4th official a mouthful of abuse which explains why he has only got a 2 game ban. Violent conduct carries an automatic 3 game ban.

PLAYERS SENT OFF UNDER LAW 12 (1) AND (2)
A Player who is dismissed from the Field of Play for Serious Foul Play under Law 12(1) or Violent Conduct under Law 12(2), whether he has previously been cautioned in the match or not, will be suspended automatically from all Club football, except for any match sanctioned or regarded by The Football Association as a Friendly Match, including nonFirst Team matches commencing forthwith and until such time as his Club’s First Team has completed its next three matches in approved Competitions.

Having watched the incident it was obvious that any "pushing" was just handbags, and the 2 match ban tells you the refs report says the sending off was for the lesser offence or insulting language.

Let him serve his ban and move on I say.
