Happy with Brexit?

Wed Nov 23, 2016 8:30 am

Two basic results of Brexit are that the exchange rate with the Euro for travel is now almost 1 : 1 and the inflation rate is due to rise to 5%, with a drastic rise in prices at shops. Are all those who voted for Brexit happy with this?
I have never been a supporter of the EU ( a neo-liberal organisation), nor did I want more power for Westminster.
However, I can see some dire consequences of that referendum.

I am not happy with the exchange rate at all, but I believe it will eventually go back up :thumbright: :thumbright:

I still stand by my vote,to leave the EU :thumbright: :thumbright:

Most of the bleak forecasts have been wrong so far, and I'm still waiting for that emergency budget that the remain camp said would have to be called almost immediately after a yes vote. Apart from me getting less dollars for my pound, the world has not come to an end for me yet.

Re: Happy with Brexit?

Brexit hasn't happened so how can we give an opinion on it?
By the way I'm in central Europe right now and Monday morning I got £1 to 1.66 euro's so your 1:1 is incorrect.

Oh Steve don't start with all this crap again. You'll only get Wez and his posters out again. And I've heard that emergency budget will be just before they start giving that extra 350million a week to the NHS.

To be honest in my eyes nothing has changed, who is to say if we voted to remain , the pound wouldn't have dropped and prices wouldn't have risen.
A few years ago the pound and euro were nearly one for one, that was before brexit .
I can't remember when I last had a good exchange rate.
As far as brexit is concerned if at the end of the week I have a fiver left in my pocket instead of a tenner, to be able to rule our own island it will be worth it.
What I disagree with every time something goes wrong , the establishment blames it on brexit.
Which is totally out of order, for example a holiday firm went bust two days after the referendum and blamed it on brexit ,and not poor management.
If we are all honest we were not part of Europe properly , we never wanted Johnny foreigner ruling us ,we never even wanted the euro has our currency.
Let's just see how it turns out, I'm quietly confident that all will be good.
To answer the question yes I'm happy with brexit.

Very very happy with it mate and stand by it 100% - although it hasn't even happened yet and will be another couple of years :thumbright:

for me its madness. working in HE this will really hit hard as all students will now be classed as OVERSEAS and would have to pay higher fees to come to UK, which they are forecast not to do over next 36 months. Also, students would have no access to loans and grants making it even more expensive venture.

Re: Happy with Brexit?

Well it hasn't started yet and in my humble opinion, thanks be to God, it never will; judging by the incompetence of the clowns who are leading us it's going to be one long hard struggle for them and given that we are not blessed with a high calibre of leadership that's one other reason why we need to be in a more collaborative relationship.

The fluctuations in the market and currencies will continue but that's only due to speculation because no-one (least of all Craig  ) knows how this will eventually settle down. Expect more trials and tribulations next year.

I've been looking out on Sky news with barely contained excitement for that announcement about the NHS injection every day now since the referendum. Have I missed it? If not do you know when it'll come? Maybe today, in the Autumn Statement? I bet our new transatlantic Ambassador, that nice Mr Farage will know.

Re: Happy with Brexit?

I think most people were aware of the tough times ahead if we voted to leave the EU....however I have absolutely no confidence in the EU at all it's basically held together by the German economy!!!

I don't think we will be the last country to exit this crumbling union and I give it a maximum of 10 years at most in its current format.

I voted brexit because I felt it offers the uk it's best opportunity in the long run...hopefully I will be proved right

The alternative of BREXIT was more concerning IMO. The Status Quo was all the EU had to offer and we have seen since the referendum that other parts of the world are getting sick of globalisation and the way it leaves a whole hoards of working class people behind.

BREXIT was just the start I fully expect France and Holland to follow suit. America has already passed it's judgement so a new world order is in the offering.

China has done very well out of globalisation but the way it dumped it's steel and caused havoc in the industry earlier this year proved that things had gone too far.

It is time for us (and the western world in general) to start making our own goods again and stop relying on supplies from the Far East. Let's put our own people to work again and grow our manufacturing base. We invented the industry and did it better than China, Germany and Japan for decades. Time to get back to our roots and stop looking after others first.

We couldn't do that as part of the EU because of it's restrictive rules. Once free we can get our own trade deals and really start to fly.

I have never been a supporter of the EU ( a neo-liberal organisation), nor did I want more power for Westminster.
However, I can see some dire consequences of that referendum.

The exchange rate must be hurting you personally living in Spain. But I fully agree there is a cycle and at some stage it will reverse probably sooner than you think.

Tony, it is massively as my wages come over from UK every month.

But I know there is a cycle and you have to take the good and bad times.

From my travels in China, I'm not sure their working class agree with you there mate. It's a lottery for you guys now, on what commerce deals can be made. Somewill prospere, and some will suffer. It's like Trump saying he will make America great again, bring back jobs and so on. But in the reality America can't compete in the market and grow at the same time. For that to happen, they either need oil prices to rise, or find new ground.
Same thing apply to Britain to an extent. Big part of the economy is financed by US banks. Foreign government has systematically bought property and business in Britain, Norway being one of them. There can be no doubt Europe would stand stronger together in comerse, but not nesecerally as EU.. So it all comes down to what comerse deals can be made for you guys. It's a lottery, and in the meantime, read captive state by George Monbiot.

I voted out and would do so again. I never believed any of the figures that were being thrown around by either camp. Every election in my lifetime has been won on false promises. I try to look beyond a lot of the rubbish being spouted by whoever is trying to win my vote, because I am not stupid enough to believe that we suddenly have a country full of honest politicians. Both the remain and the leave camp came out with some right whoppers, and because a lot of the predictions as to what would happen almost the day after if the leave campaign won has not actually happened, there has been a fair bit of backtracking. Even the governor of the Bank of England has admitted some of his calculations were wrong.
Nobody knows the true affect that this will have, and we won't know for many years yet. One thing for certain will happen. Brexit will be blamed for anything and everything that goes wrong in the future. After all, we have been living in a perfect country to date, where there is no unemployment, a perfect health service, no housing problems, brilliant public transport, no cutbacks on public services, no need for food banks, in fact no poverty etc.etc. A few years from now Brexit will be blamed for the lot.

The country voted out, get over it, why are people harping on about it?

Re: Happy with Brexit?

Wed Nov 23, 2016 1:20 pm

The fall in the value of the pound and inflation are both related to the Brexit process.
The pound will not rise much in value and inflation will rocket.
Austerity ( which the EU promoted) will get worse simply because we have a neo-liberal Government.
When things don't improve who are those who voted out going to blame?

Re: Happy with Brexit?

Wed Nov 23, 2016 1:29 pm

I didn't want out but I'll live with the decision. But it is too complicated to do at one stroke. Even a "hard Brexit" is going to take many years to implement, it's such a vast legal area. It's taken 43 years of legal changes to get where we are now and you can't end that in 2 years, even if everyone agrees with it.

At the end of the day, the same group of people will be in charge leaving the rest of us with the shitty end of the stick as usual. Whether the politicians in charge are in Europe, Westminster or Cardiff Bay you can bet they look after their own interests and those of there big business mates first.

the value of the pound will dive as we leave the EU,,and then start to rise again as we make our way in the wide world..no different to austrailia canada, new zealand, countries that rule themselves..caving into the eu now would be a disaster,,imagine juncker and his cronies having complete control of the uk,,,there would be more and more integration everyday..which is their dream..i am waiting for the italian referendum and the dutch and french elections..starting to get very interesting as people in every country start rising against the establishment
