Some interesting suggestions from Sheffield that Carlos Carvalhal might rest a couple of players. He did say in his pre-match press conference yesterday that he was unhappy with the limited recovery time his side had from the Huddersfield win. Could the likes of Barry Bannan step aside?

For Cardiff, the big question mark is probably whether Rickie Lambert is physically up to putting in another huge effort having had a niggling injury for a little while.

Anthony Pilkington and Chamkakh the main contenders to replace him.

Wouldn’t expect Warnock to change too much on the whole.

Team news

Kieran Richardson and Marouane Chamakh are in contention to make their debuts for the Bluebirds after joining on free transfers last week.

With Rickie Lambert carrying a 'niggle', according to Warnock, former Arsenal man Chamakh could play from the start, if match fit, while Anthony Pilkington could return to the starting lineup.

Carvalhal admitted this week his kingpin forward Lucas Joao has been training 'with limitations' and is very unlikely to feature as early as Wednesday night.

Sheffield Wednesday Football Club is a professional association football club based in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England. The team competes in the Championship, the second tier of the English football league system. Formed as an offshoot of The Wednesday Cricket Club in 1867, they went by the name of The Wednesday Football Club until changing to their current name in 1929.

Wednesday are one of the oldest football clubs in the world of any code, and the third oldest professional association football club behind Notts County and Nottingham Forest, excluding clubs with informal or disputed foundation dates. In 1868 they won the Cromwell Cup, only the second tournament of its kind, and in 1877 they won the inaugural Sheffield Challenge Cup, the oldest County Cup in England. They were founding members (and inaugural champions) of the Football Alliance in 1889, before joining The Football League three years later. In 1992 they became founder members of the Premier League. The club has spent most of its league history in English football's top flight, but they have not played at that level since being relegated in 2000.

The Owls, as they are nicknamed, have won four League titles, three FA Cup’s and one League Cup. Wednesday have also competed in UEFA cup competitions on four occasions, reaching the quarter-finals of the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup in 1963.

Since 1899 the club has played its home matches at Hillsborough stadium in the north-west Sheffield suburb of Owlerton.

Another very decent side.

Going to be tough.

A 2 v 1 win would be excellent.

Hope the 12th man turns up - the team needs them.

Again a good side are Wednesday as are Bristol! Would love a win 1-0, I'm going to go for a draw 1-1! Would be disappointed if we lost after the Bristol match! If we get a draw at least..it's another point to try and stay out of the relegation zone and would be happy with that. :bluescarf: :bluebird: of course a win would be a big statement!

Why Cardiff will take real confidence into Sheffield Wednesday clash

By Jamie Kemble

Neil Warnock began his Cardiff City tenure with a win over high-flying rivals Bristol City on Friday evening but can he make it two from two?

Cardiff manager Neil Warnock

Cardiff City have been the talk of the Championship this week after Neil Warnock took the hot seat and almost instantly brought four big names in on free transfers.

The Bluebirds’ win over Bristol City on Friday evening supporters the buzz around the Cardiff City Stadium and quiet whispers of an instant surge up the Championship table.

Bristol went into the game in fine, high-scoring form but Cardiff were not in the mood to leave empty-handed again and took all three points with a battling display against their Severnside rivals.

The Bluebirds even managed to take all three points without a host of key names. Anthony Pilkington was forced to watch from the bench having picked up an injury earlier in the month and the home side were also missing Jazz Richards, Stuart O’Keefe and Emyr Huws.

There were also three debutants with Sol Bamba, Junior Hoilett and Joe Bennett all making their first appearances for the club.

Cardiff will be eager not to get carried away, after all, it is just one win but to beat a very good Bristol City side with key names missing and a number of new players is a real positive to take into the rest of the season.

Sheffield Wednesday’s Fernando Forestieri scores their first goal

Warnock’s men take on in-form Sheffield Wednesday on Wednesday evening and they won’t fear them one bit after such a big win on the weekend. There’s a renewed sense of excitement around the Cardiff City Stadium and there’s no sign of it disappearing just yet.

The former Sheffield United boss will be keen to secure a win over his old rivals on Wednesday evening.

2 -1 City. Bamba to score simply by growling at the ball. Gunnarsson scores directly from an angry long throw. Warnock sent to the stands because of jumping on the lino's back.

Wednesday face a familiar face from their past, yes it's the return of Wednesday Vs Warnock! This time he takes charge of lowly Cardiff City. The Bluebirds have been cannon fodder for many teams this season. Much like Rotherham United where until his arrival there last season. So, can the Owls do what they failed to do last season and overcome Warnock`s relegation zone battlers? The EFL have announced the match officials for the Owls visit to the Bluebirds of Cardiff -

Cardiff City v Sheffield Wednesday
Referee - Darren Bond
Assistants - Adam Matthews and Daniel Leach
Fourth Official - Andy Woolmer

Match Referee Bond last was in charge of an Owls` match when they famously overcame Bristol City 3 - 2 thanks to a Kieran Lee winner in the dying seconds. He was EFL official throughout last season and was in charge of 36 games in the 2015/16 season. This season he has taken charge of 11 fixtures across the EFL and handed out 31 bookings and has sent off four players. He has predominately taking charge of Championship as well as domestic cup competitions.

Just rang the ticket office and £19 a ticket is still quite steep considering we will probably only sell half the allocation.

Wish they did the £5 deal more often, though I appreciate that would maybe disgruntle some city fans who have paid a full whack for the ST. But yeah... £19 a lot of money for Wednesday night football.

Trust statement on Aberfan Disaster commemoration

Trust chair Keith Morgan has made the following statement ahead of next week’s 50th anniversary of the Aberfan Disaster in which 116 children and 28 adults died in the 1966 tip slide.

Keith Morgan said: “Following discussions with Cardiff City Football Club, the Trust is pleased to announce that the club will be marking the 50th anniversary of the tragic events of the Aberfan disaster of October 21, 1966 with appropriate pre-match commemorations which will include a one minute silence before kick-off.

The Trust asks all fans to try and ensure that they are in their seats in sufficient time to allow this silence to be honoured as best possible. Our thoughts go out to all those whose lives were changed forever by the tragic events of that day.”

Have Wednesday changed much since last season?

The basic game plan is unlikely to be too different.

They will probably line-up in a flat 4-4-2, but that becomes ultra-fluid when theygo forward. The likes of Barry Bannan and Ross Wallace will move out wide to protect the full-backs in defence but when they counter, will have free roam.

Crucially, that gives the jewel in their crown, Fernando Forestieri, the freedom to roam and pop up in dangerous positions. Midfielder Kieran Lee is in superb form this season and has the licence to make runs into the box.

Winger Adam Reach and target man Steven Fletcher are summer acquisitions who have strengthened their goal threat even further.

I think Chamkh will start. Warnock has admitted that Lambert isn't up to two games in a week. Could be interesting, though no way will he last the 90. Sub on after about 65 mins I'd say.

Really dont know what team Warnock will go with. If we had played Saturday/Tuesday i dont think Lambert would have started but seeing as we played Friday/Wednesday an extra day will go in his favour. I can see Lambert playing 50/60 then we'll see Chamakh or Pilkington. Maybe o'keefe for Ralls to give Gunnarson some help in keeping Forestieri quiet but cant see many other changes than them.

Predcition - 1-1

Sol Bamba: The new Cardiff City cult hero will be looking to build on his Man Of The Match display versus Bristol City on debut. He is likely to partner captain Sean Morrison at the back after the pair made such a fine impression on Friday night. With question marks raised by fans of Bamba's former club Leeds United, Warnock will be looking for consistency from his new centre-back.

CARDIFF CITY V SHEFF WED

Cardiff win - 2/1

Sheffield Wednesday win - 7/5

Draw - 21/10

Re: ' LATEST NEWS CARDIFF CITY v SHEFF WED ' UPDATED DAILY

Tue Oct 18, 2016 10:15 pm

Wednesday put in their best performance of the season at Huddersfield, playing some attractive football while nullifying the threat of David Wagner’s well-drilled Terriers.
David Jones and Fernando Forestieri both hit the woodwork before the latter coolly converted a penalty to ensure victory.
Neil Warnock’s first game as Cardiff manager was a fraught derby win against Bristol City.
The Bluebirds seized the initiative and went two goals to the good through Peter Whittingham and Sol Bamba.
Lee Tomlin reduced the arrears on 69′ but Bristol City could not force an equaliser despite having all the running in the last twenty minutes.

Wednesday have been in steady form of late; losing away to Birmingham is the only real blot on their last-five copy book.
Carlos Carvalhal has often been criticised across his tenure for playing too expansively away from home; this was answered emphatically at the John Smith’s Stadium. However, his side will face a different type of opposition on Wednesday night.

Cardiff have been poor since the end of August, with six defeats in seven ultimately costing Paul Trollope his job. I do hope the local papers went with ‘WHAT A LOAD OF TROLLOPE’ on the morning of his sacking.
Colin has come in and absolutely Done A Colin, signing former players and getting instant results in a tough-looking fixture.
Carlos Carvalhal today chose to focus on his team ahead of commenting on Neil Warnock’s relationship with Wednesday saying, “He is a very interesting person. I look forward to talking to him again tomorrow.”
David Jones was equally disinterested in Warnock. You can read more of Angela’s excellent press pass piece by clicking here.
Claims about Warnock charging his former players a sub fee in order to play have been dismissed by the Bramall Lane favourite.
