Cardiff City FC is delighted to confirm the signing of Emyr Huws from Wigan Athletic, subject to international clearance.

The Welsh international midfielder has agreed a three-year deal, keeping him with the Bluebirds until summer 2019.

22-year-old Huws played 29 times in the Sky Bet Championship while on loan at Huddersfield Town during the 2015/16 season, scoring on five occasions.

The young midfielder has already scored at Cardiff City Stadium, netting for the Welsh National Team during their friendly with the Netherlands last November. To date, Huws has made seven appearances for his country.

Speaking to Cardiff City Player HD on the morning of his signing, Emyr said: “I’m chuffed to be back in South Wales and really happy to join a big club like Cardiff.

“I know most of the coaching staff from Wales, and can’t wait to join up with the boys now and get started.”

Emyr is Cardiff City's fifth summer signing, following the permanent arrivals of Lex Immers, Frédéric Gounongbe, Kenneth Zohore and fellow Welsh international Jazz Richards.

Wigan's Emyr Hughes in advanced talks with Cardiff City

Friday 12th August 2016

The midfielder is expected to arrive in the Welsh capital in the next few days

Last season in division one Huws failed to get in to Wigan's first team and so was loaned out.

Wigan are letting Hughes go on a free transfer.

Emyr Huws looks set to become the second Welsh signing of the Paul Trollope era.

A deal is not yet completed but talks are believed to be at an advanced stage.

The Wigan Athletic midfielder has not featured for the Latics so far this season and Cardiff are hopeful that a deal can be done in the coming days.

He has been struggling with an ankle injury sustained in pre-season but it is not thought to be serious.

The 22-year-old spent last season on loan at Huddersfield Town, it will be a permanent deal that brings him back to Wales.

It will be a significant coup for Paul Trollope as the dynamic Wales international can play anywhere across the midfield.

Fabio is meanwhile expected to sign for Middlesbrough imminently after the Premier League club activated his £2 million release clause.

This is the kind of work I expected of slade, moving on big earners and replacing them with younger players on lower wages with potential.

Great signing and good to see some Welsh players involved.

With new signings, one of the questions that should be asked is "would he improve our team?"

I think Huws would, happy with this.

We were all moaning over the last few years over the lack of Welsh players in our squad, can't say that anymore

We've been crying out for a couple of players signing for City with pace for about 5 years now. We still haven't got any.

StT.

Maybe it's part of the process, reducing the wage bill enough to see how much they have to bring in the strikers we need. Let's hope so.

The next 2 and a half weeks will define what sort of season Cardiff have, I feel that Tan has too much say on what goes on.

Annis I've heard of someone tonight that mutch is nearly done and we are also kean on campbell but that one is further away... anything you can find out?

I think he could be an excellent buy. His career has been blighted by serious injury to date.
He is technically very talented and must have more pace than many of the present midfield! Eg Gunnarson, Whittingham, O Keefe etc. We desperately lack pace in midfield.
(and in attack especially when Zahore plays!).

Hope this is true, it's the sort of pick me up news a city fan needs along with if we sign Huws. I also wouldn't be so worried about Gunner leaving then especially with his performance tonight.

Let's hope he can score 20 goals a season.

Because that's what we need - not another unproven sicknote.

Jazz Richards was an exciting signing apparently, we look lost in this formation, no pace, no flare, no goals, awful.

Who at the club is making the decision that we need to sign a midfield player?

Trollope?

Tan?

Stevie Wonder?

We need a striker (probably two) FFS - not another midfielder!

I personally think emyr huws is a different type of midfielder to what we currently have ... we are creating nothing from midfield .. okeefe, gunnars, even ralls to an extent are all holding midfielders the only midfield player we have thats any good on the front foot is immers. Its all very well saying we have a glut of players in that area but if they are all doing the same thing you get performances like last night ..

You tube says he is brilliant! :D :D

But agree that he is a different type of player to what we have. As mentioned, we have a lot of similar players so some variety is good.

Davids, of course you're right with regards to the striker situation but we also need more creativity in the midfield so with that in mind he could be a good purchase.
I'm sure he's not being brought in instead of a striker and that the club - in their infinite wisdom - realise that a pacy, goal scoring forward is needed.

Im guessing they plan on selling Gunnar and bringing in the 2m and bringing Hughes in on the cheap. To me it makes perfect sense to free up further funds.
