" JAZZ RICHARDS NOW KNOWS HIS OBLIGATIONS "

Cardiff City manager Trollope has revealed he has discussed the issue with player, insisting he is aware of the tradition moving forward

Jazz Richards has upset some Cardiff City fans

Trollope said: " I spoke to Jazz. He’s aware of the club traditions and obligations and obviously it’s something that happened in the game.
"It means a lot to Cardiff fans for signings to appreciate that, I’m sure it was a misunderstanding and I'm sure he didn’t intentionally not want to do it."

Cardiff City boss Paul Trollope has held talks with defender Jazz Richards over the Ayatollah row that marred his competitive debut for the club, with the former Swansea City star insisting he DID respond to fans' requests to perform the gesture.

Some Bluebirds fans were angry after claiming Richards ignored up to seven requests to 'do the Ayatollah' during the 0-0 draw with Birmingham on the opening day of the season.

The club later released video footage suggesting he did in fact eventually do it, with audio appearing to show the fans cheering his response in the 49th minute, but there is no footage of Richards actually doing the ayatollah.

Now, Trollope has revealed he has discussed the issue with player, insisting he is aware of the tradition and his obligations moving forward.

Trollope said: " I spoke to Jazz. He’s aware of the club traditions and obligations and obviously it’s something that happened in the game.

"I wasn’t aware until later in the evening but we’ve got evidence and he assures us he did it, which I think some of the supporters saw. Moving forward he knows the tradition of the club and what he has to do. We’ve spoken at length about it and I don’t think it will be an issue.

"I’ve spoken to Jazz. He knows his obligations moving forward.

"Sometimes it’s difficult in a game with the concentration, where the ball is, etc, but we thought he performed to a good level, he was one of the ones who came back late from the Euros, didn’t quite have the same match minutes in pre-season as one or two of the others but we were pleased with his contributuion.

"You don’t need these things going around it and we want to focus on the game, but he’s aware of what it is and the expectation so it shouldn’t be a problem going forward."

Asked if Richard had been affected by the reaction, he said: "I’m not sure. I think he was very focussed on the game. I don’t know whether or not he heard the ones before, he did it, which is the main thing. It’s probably a learning curve for the next games.

"We were pleased with the signing and to get him here, he’s a current international, with the way we’re trying to play he suits us down to the ground. He’s athletic, got good quality on the ball, he defends well and can put crosses in at the other end. He’s perfect for us and he can be a big, big player for us.

"On the pitch is where it matters but also moving forward he’s aware of the tradition of the football club and what’s needed."

Team-mate Sean Morrison backed up Richards' insistence he did perform the ayatollah, adding: "I didn’t notice it was going on until someone mentioned it. I thought I saw him do it at a corner, but people may have missed it.

"It means a lot to Cardiff fans for signings to appreciate that, I’m sure it was a misunderstanding and I'm sure he didn’t intentionally not want to do it."

Let's hope this Sunday sees the end of a very unsavoury situation and I believe this one statement (below) goes a long way towards allowing everyone to move forward positively

Quote (Paul Trollope): "I wasn’t aware until later in the evening but we’ve got evidence and he assures us he did it, which I think some of the supporters saw. Moving forward he knows the tradition of the club and what he has to do. We’ve spoken at length about it and I don’t think it will be an issue."

Jazz Richards is a Bluebird and will embrace the club's 'traditions' no doubt but it's a two-way thing and the club's fans have an equal responsibility to embrace the player; particularly one so new to the club and I have no doubt that most will give him a fair chance :ayatollah:

I'm glad Jazz has realised his obligations and hopefully within minutes of the kick off this issue will be put to bed.

I just hope the fans understand their obligations to. By all means ask the players to do the :ayatollah: but do it at the right time such as a break in play e.g. a substitution. What we don't want is players distracted  time and again by repeated requests. :bluescarf:

Just looking on the Swansea forum and they are saying in the event of any Cardiff player ever joining them they will have the obligation to do the Swim Away just like Jazz needs to slap his head whilst here.

Swim away is hooligan related. Ayotollah is a fan tradition. Swansea fans are still locked in an 80s time warp

Why are you telling lies? Quite the opposite has been said! Swansea fans appreciate the difference between a pro Cardiff chant and an anti Cardiff chant. The two do not compare. However, by singing it to Jazz 7 times, i believe some of your fans actually meant it to become an anti Swansea gesture.
Once it was sung once or twice and he didn't respond it should have been left alone. In saying that, the lad is now saying he did do it. Either way, it's no biggie.

I'm sure if he embraces the fans ritual like every other player does then there won't be any booing.

Wont mean anything now.

The damage is all done, us fans work hard to pay for our season tickets and travel away. The ayatollah was not the issue for me on the day, he didn't even acknowledge the travelling support at full time whistle.

He has no respect for the jersey, his team mates or the fans.

Swansea fan or not, at least respect the club and fans for giving you the opportunity to revive your career

I do agree that he should have acknowledged the travelling support at the final whistle, but I would hope that our more childish fans will now let this 'head tapping' matter drop. Unfortunately you just know lots of supporters will be chanting it again on Sunday, leave the lad alone to concentrate on his football.

Despite all the barbs & provocation to carry on the topic, a lot of people I would imagine are not commenting for the greater good. A successful Cardiff City team this season! :ayatollah:

Jazz R knew his obligations and did the Ayatollah, although maybe a bit reluctantly, but let's get behind all the players and get some scores on the doors. He needs to feel welcome if he's going to perform.

Yet again, the football overshadowed by other stuff. I'd rather see him bang a few in the net and do his own celebration. That's showing his obligation. :bluescarf:

If you notice, I hardly ever use the Ayatollah smilie. Does that make it a crime? :bluescarf: :bluescarf: :bluescarf: :bluescarf: :bluescarf:

Only for 2 years before they dropped like a stone and went into receivership and screwed creditors before ending up in 4th division.
