' CARDIFF CITY 3PM TODAY '

There we are then.

Bournemouth probably deserve the win but Cardiff can be quietly satisfied with that.

They were very competitive and could well have nicked an equaliser in that second half.

That was a decent game of football.

Roll on next Saturday! :bluebird: :bluebird:

The Bluebirds travel to the Vitality Stadium this Saturday afternoon and new Cardiff City manager Paul Trollope will play his strongest team, ready for the opening Championship League away game at Birmingham City.

The action gets under way at 3pm this Saturday afternoon on the south coast at the Vitality Stadium, formerly known as Dean Court.

Who are Cardiff's opponents?
Bournemouth had been expected to struggle in last season's Premier League, particularly when they lost top goalscorer Callum Wilson to a long-term injury early in the season.

But Eddie Howe – who has been touted as a future England manager – guided his side to safety with a squad which did not boast as many so-called big names as some of the clubs which finished below the Cherries.

So far this pre-season Bournemouth have beaten US side Minnesota United and drawn with local rivals Portsmouth.

However, it remains to be seen how strong the XI which Howe fields will be – with the Cherries playing City's Championship rivals Reading at the Madejski Stadium last night.

Who are their key players?
Wilson has signed a new contract and has a point to prove after missing so much Premier League action last time – although he still managed to fire a hat trick, during a 4-3 win at West Ham.

Midfielder Harry Arter and defensive duo Charlie Daniels and captain Simon Francis also impressed during 2015-16.

Bournemouth have splashed out during the summer – shelling out £15m on Liverpool's Jordon Ibe alone – as well as paying more than £5m for France under-20 international Lys Mousset from Le Havre.

Jordon Ibe (England & Liverpool): Signed by the Reds as a 16-year-old and has taken his first-team chance at Liverpool with both hands, showing he could be a fixture for years to comeJordon Ibe playing for Liverpool
But Matt Ritchie has left the side, joining Newcastle United in a £10m deal.

Ex-Swansea midfielder and Welsh international Shaun MacDonald is also on the club's books.

What can we expect from the Bluebirds?

A pre-season tour to Germany threatened to descend into shambles when the opening game was called off – before being played at the team's training base – but Cardiff have done all that's asked of them during pre-season so far.

New manager Paul Trollope has introduced the 5-3-2 system favoured by Wales and it seems to have paid dividends so far, but Bournemouth will provide a good test of the Bluebirds' new mettle.

Trollope will also use the game to assess the fitness of some of his players who have not had much game time over the last few weeks. They include Sean Morrison and Lee Peltier, who have returned after spells on the sidelines, and Aron Gunnarsson and Jazz Richards, both of whom were given extended rests following Euro 2016.

Head-to-head record
Of the 42 previous games between the two sides Cardiff have won 13, Bournemouth 17 and 12 have ended in draws.

The Bluebirds' last visit to Dean Court – in the league in December 2014 – saw them sent back to South Wales on the wrong end of a 5-3 scoreline.

Paul Trollope will see how close Cardiff are to AFCB

Saturday, 30 July 2016

Paul Trollope may not have managed a team in the Championship before this season but his Cardiff City side are ones to watch in the race for the Premier League. Cardiff will take on AFCB in a pre-season friendly wondering how they match up against a side that has not long been in the Premier League. It will be a great work out for the Blues and should give them something to aim at if they are to mount a promotion-winning season. But for AFCB it is a game that might give them less time on the ball than they could enjoy in many games next season.

Cardiff City may do well to hold on to Aron Gunnarson though who gave England's Euro squad such a tough time over in France. However, if they do he and Peter Whittingham will be players that need big seasons for Cardiff to get up. Great things will also be expected of Lex Immers who was a major summer signing from Feynoord.

AFCB players will be needing to impress in the last two home warm up games.
They have also bought in Belgian striker Frederic Gounongbe who is 28 and scored 22 goals in the Jupilier Pro League for De Kemphanen last season (I'll be honest - I have no idea how good that league is!). Danish-born Kenneth Zohore is another new striker from KV Kortrijk in Belgium, but he had already been on loan at Cardiff.

Cardiff still have David Marshall in goal who is as good as any of the top keepers in the Championship, but Hull City were rumoured to be tracking him while Steve Bruce was still at the club. Like AFCB, Hull are probably in search of some new defenders.

So we can expect a hard fought game and plenty of players from Cardiff that need to stake a claim to a place in their starting line up, but Eddie Howe may have to consider his options carefully with the players having to take on Valencia in four days time.

Cardiff City take on Bournemouth in their final match of pre-season as Paul Trollope looks to fine-tune his starting XI ahead of the Championship opener against Birmingham next weekend.

Today's game should give us a good idea where the Bluebirds are at under their new boss and who might make his first-choice side in the coming weeks and months.

Pre-season preparations have gone pretty well so far, with the club enjoying a successful tour of Germany, but today should provide a big step up against Eddie Howe's Bournemouth.

We'll also be keeping you in touch with the latest transfer news from the club, with the likes of Federico Macheda, Adam Le Fondre and Kagisho Dikgacoi all set to leave soon.

Team news will be at 2pm and you can then follow our live match updates from 3pm.

Will Trollope inject a bit of fight into us to grind out wins and draws? Time will tell, perhaps today will give us a hint. :bluescarf:

A Cardiff move ends with a Ralls effort going harmlessly wide.

What was nice, however, was the early ball from the midfielder to release Pilkington.

Great awareness and movement from the No.10. Cardiff are mostly second best here but they’ve put some decent patterns of play together.

City never giving up and running for every ball, but Bournemouth's quality at this moment standing out, they should be 2 nil up.

Re: UPDATED ' BOURNEMOUTH V CARDIFF CITY 3PM TODAY '

Sat Jul 30, 2016 2:37 pm

Unlucky

Fabio’s cross from the left goes straight out for a GK but that was more good work on the ball.

Jazz Richards started it all with an excellent challenge and pass.

Cardiff look okay when they have the ball, which is promising against a side of this quality.

Half Time: Bournemouth 1-0 Cardiff City - Ibe's goal is the difference so far

That was a really good half of football.

Bournemouth no doubt deserve the lead and have been excellent.

I think, however, Trollope will be quite please with a lot of the possession play he’s seen.

They’ve not been played off the park by any stretch.

City did ok 1st half. Not many chances pilks should have hit target. Not comfortable watching morrison on the ball. Manga for him will improve defence with this style of play
