I guess it's all relevant (CWL had a big decline in recent years) but it is still good news  :ayatollah:

very disappointing show by the airport in catering for wales fans in the euros.

I flew a total of 8 times in the tournament (inc france internal as well eurostar trips) and not once from cardiff or bristol.

sort it out - we are on the map now

That's not the airports fault that's charter airlines not having enough planes during the summer months most airlines never have planes waiting around they are all ways in use

Shambles really. Fastest growing because over the last 15-20 years its been allowed to drop to next to nothing!

Get the big boy airlines in there and make it a Trans-Atlantic hub....

And u go there at 3 in the morning its like Heathrow!!! lower taxes and let airlines fly daytime :)

Birmingham airport laid on 9 for the Irish last 16 game.
Organised in days and sold out.

Just over one and a quarter million in a year compared to Bristol's seven million passengers show how much catching up we have to do. With the small numbers using Cardiff, it did'nt require a massive amount of extra passengers to show a big increase in percentage terms. After all, if only one passenger used it one year, and then two the following year that would be massive perecentage increase despite the numbers being abysmal. It's a bit better than when it was Rhoose airport, but it is still a small regional airport that has a long way to go just to compete with Bristol. At least it's still a bit bigger than Swansea Airport.

What's it to do with airport it is upto airlines to provide the service, or does cdf airport provide the planes themselves? ? Ask yourself why didn't Bristol jump on bandwagon as only just up the road?

If you don't use it,we'll lose it! Why travel to England when we have our own airport,it's as bad as supporting their football team's-plastics?

I'd love to use it. Unfortunately, there are no flights for my destination. I travel regularly, three or four times a year and have to drive to Gatwick every time. Much easier if I could go from Cardiff, trouble is they don't have flights direct to Orlando any more.

Thomas Cook do flights to Orlando from Cardiff, usually on Saturday.

Its good news that its numbers are improving but I think people just need to accept that the airport is what it is and there just isn't the demand to make it into what some people would like it to be.

One flight per year, and this year's one off flight direct to Orlando was in May. You can travel Flybe to Glasgow, and then Virgin to Orlando, or go via Amsterdam, but only one direct flight this year from Cardiff to Orlando with Thos Cook. they did one last year as well which I think was in August.

Both Ryanair and EasyJet have looked at Cardiff recently but won't be coming for the foreseeable future. One problem is that the South Wales public are more inclined to want a charter flight/package holiday than sorting flights independently, whereas other regions of the UK are more likely to book just the flights. Both airlines reckon they could get 70-75% capacity on flights, but not the 90-95% they need. That's why the airlines with the smaller planes work out of Cardiff for Charter flights..

I was talking to a Ryanair pilot beginning of this year and he said that they were in discussion for more routes in cardiff as bristol is up to capacity but he said it comes down to the price of the fuel it cheaper in Bristol at the moment

Shut up you f*cking whopper.

I've flown from Cardiff Airport twice since it's opened and not since 2011. I always look at Cardiff first but nothing ever fits and it it does it's ridiculously more expensive. Birmingham airport seems to be the best one for me right now. Cardiff airport is useless, notoriously useless. It's been allowed to just rot away, why should the Welsh public use something that is not fit for purpose just because it's Welsh?

Typical, backward parochial thinking which infests this country.

Not quite how I would have put it, but you make a valid point when stating CWL is all too often outdo on routes and/or prices (even when taking travelling time/costs into account)

I'm guessing it's party down to the airlines that are based at the airport and partly down to the apparently highest Landing Fees in the UK

Where is Browny on this? It's his favourite subject :laughing6:
My biggest gripe with our airport is location, accessibility and the fact it costs us taxpayers a lot of money!

That is the most shocking thing about it Sven. I am willing to pay a little extra to travel from Cardiff as it's obviously far more convenient but they take the piss with prices and I have even found flights from Manchester airport that are much cheaper than Cardiff even when you factor in the price of travel!

I've said this for years, they need to merge Cardiff and Bristol airport and put one close to the border (preferably within Wales). I have read there are a number of suitable sites. There just isn't a big enough population to service two international airports so close together.

Re: CARDIFF AIRPORT

Wed Jul 13, 2016 10:07 am

Landing fees are extortionate - hence why most flights go in the night.

Also, budget airlines have a clause in contract that if another budget comes in they can pull out. That happened to BMI baby with Easyjet a few years ago, once Cardiff looked into accommodating Easyjet BMIBaby threatened pull out

Again, I agree!

Haven't flown from Cardiff Airport for some years and sadly it's always been down to availability of routes and adjacent airports being more competitive on price by some distance

Like you, I am more than happy to pay a bit of a premium but when the figures simply don't add up...well, the future is bleak without a major rethink of strategy and maybe location

Re: CARDIFF AIRPORT

I always fly to Bristol. Simply put its cheaper, and transport links are much better.

Guess that makes me a plastic  (laughable comment btw).

Sounds about right on the capacity thing, I used to fly to Glasgow with BMI, the last time I flew 2009 the flight up was half full and on the way back maybe slightly more, not surprised they pulled the plug to be honest.
