' CITY SALES NO WHERE NEAR LAST SEASON BUT '

Thu Jun 02, 2016 5:12 pm

The new Adidas Cardiff City home kit went on sale today at CCS but the sales have been nowhere near the first day sales of last season when the kit launched last summer.

The club are not offering a discount for season ticket holders as they have done in previous seasons though with every new shirt purchased fans were given a complimentary ice cream.

The club are hopeful that with the early release sales will pick up over the summer and the shirt will prove popular.

The images of the new red away kit were advertised today and will be available to purchase from July 15th.

The club shop remains open until 7pm tonight.

Yes Carl, Sales of next seasons new shirt are well down on last season.

A couple of reasons in my opinion

No Discount for Season Ticket holders

Not promoted enough

No Big Day/ Event for the Sale of it

Never going to be, last year we had the new badge and went to a decent brand in Adidas. It's not much different from last seasons, I will get one but in time as probably most others. For now it's all about the Euros.

I bought 2 for my youngest boys today. £70 for the 2 isn't bad. Won't waste money on shorts or socks though.

We always make excuses. I don't see other clubs making excuse after excuse.

In August/Sept when our crowds are low,we will be saying our fans are skint from the Euros,in December it will because of Xmas etc etc

For 2 years leading up to France some said the crowds are low due to the Euros

The truth is, under Tan we have lost thousands upon and thousands of fans and the sad facts are there.

In fairness, the marketing behind this has been pretty poor,,,non existent in fact. Heads should roll for this major blunder.

But I agree with Annis,,,the crowds are way down, thanks to Ykw!

I got two kits for my boys today. To be honest a full junior kit at £70.99 (shirt, shorts, adult socks) is very steep for a championship club.

I also got rather annoyed as a loyal fan and season ticket holder. I made the mistake of pre-ordering 1 kit on line. I was told that there was no discount or loyalty points because I had pre-ordered online and not through the shop  What the heck is that about :? . The same kit I bought from the shelf in the shop I was entitled to the so called loyalty points whatever they are.

I then asked if I could get a refund of my online purchase and then buy the kit again to get the points. I was told flatly no because it goes through " a different system". Thanks City, you really know how to treat your customers who pre-ordered.

On the bright side the kit is nice and although similar to last season, I think the plain blue shirt and more prominent white stripes on the shorts and socks are a bit nicer.

I didn't get a bloody free ice cream either

Euros round the corner too. Not many going can afford to shell out for a city kit right now

That's rubbish.
Distant selling regulations allow you to cancel any online purchase within 30 days.
People shouldn't work for an online retailer if they don't know the rules.

It is 14 days not 30 and the 14 days starts from the day after delivery. But you are correct the club have to accept your cancellation provided the kit has not been personalised in any way, such as a name being printed on the back.

I thought buying the new top to wear to the Euros would be an incentive for people to buy it early rather than an excuse not to buy it cos I'm skint I'm going to France!!!!

I agree with Annis for all the good work off the pitch done by the club over the last few months ...we do seem to have lost a hell of a lot of support, passion and loyalty from thousands of fans

Not sure if it's all to do with Tan and the rebrand but for whatever reason it just not the same down the City these days

Why would people want to but the new CCFC top to wear to the Euros? Isn`t it Wales playing rather than Cardiff City?

Whatever happened to "Together Stronger" etc?

Never worn replica shirts so have never seen the obsession with the latest model although i did buy my daughter one last season as going back to blue was such a big statement. I won't be buying her another next season.

It was never going to hit the heights of last season and i hope this is not the metric (new shirt sales) that now defines our club.

The more of my mates I speak to the more I think we underestimate the effect that the boring/passionless football we had for the majority Slade's time in charge has had on the casual fan.

I've been going down since 1971/72 and I can remember some real crap football/results in that time but I really can't remember such a sustained period of boring/passionless football as we've just experienced. It's an entertainment business and whilst we're used to losing as City fans   that can be, and often was, just as entertaining. Just give us a battle and 100% and most people will walk away relatively content with spending the entrance fee.

Of course, VT was responsible for bringing Slade in and could/should have got rid of him sooner but I don't think he's solely to blame on this one and he's just easy to have a pop at.

It will now take a sustained period of progression to get those fans back and, hopefully, Trollope has that in his job description because if I have to sit through more of the dirge I experienced with Slade then I will begin to question my sanity of continual season ticket renewal :? :ayatollah:

The Euro's are not an exscuse they are a fact of life.

The majority of people who are going to the Euro's probably do not have buying the new City shirt on the day its come out at the top of their priorities list right now which will therefore have an effect on sales.

Good post and my thoughts exactly.
With regards to the new shirt I personally can't understand why anybody would buy this seasons if they have last seasons.
Add a little stripe here and a slightly different shade there and it boils down to the club trying to fleece the fans of more money.

Looks like a nice shirt and will prob buy it at some point but having just shelled out fifty odd quid for the wales shirt if can wait until the start of next season for me.

I totally agree with the Together Stronger campaign

I am going to support Wales but that doesn't mean I shouldn't wear my City top...I and most of my mates will be taking and wearing both Wales and Cardiff tops and t shirts and our flag will have a bluebird on it etc exactly as we have done when we have been away with Wales in the past

I was just commenting that maybe the club would possibly have sold a few more City tops with people taking them to France, but for whatever reason that doesn't seem to be the case

Re: ' CITY SALES NO WHERE NEAR LAST SEASON BUT '

Fri Jun 03, 2016 4:02 pm

Bringing out a new top every 12 months is not supporter friendly. Clubs should keep a kit for 2 years at a time and maybe change one of them every second year. At nearly £75 for a full kit, x 3 or 4 for kids who want them all, it's a small fortune when it mounts up. Home, away, 3rd, 2 x gk....
