A forum for all things Cardiff City

Was looking through some old videos and our fanbase was once top notch even in the Championship.
To have the 22nd average away attendance out of the 24 teams in the league is shocking. Home crowd not great either.
Considering we finished 8th and population of the city-wise (not including our 1,100,000 metropolitan area), Cardiff is a lot bigger than most other clubs.
WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO CCFC FANS?!

sold their souls.

We had an owner who systematically alienated the fan base over two and a half years and that wound hasn't come close to healing.

Ninian Park is long gone.

Same as lot of other fans priced out of game ! Better things to spend their money on.

i was thinking the same myself a few days ago when i was watching videos on youtube of the days under jones and the stadium was packed, unfortunately vincent tan come along and decided he liked red, that caused splits in the fan base and lots of ppl never returned due to the fact they felt like this was no longer the club they loved,it will take a lot more than the return to blue to heal those wounds. hopefully tan is learning from his mistakes tho as recently it seems the club is starting to get itself back on track and with the right appointment as manager we could see some of those fans who havent been back return next season

NInian Park is long gone, just like the Boleyn Ground. New stadiums just don't have the same feel as the old grounds, as West Ham will find out next season. Without the atmosphere the experience is not the same as it once was and people then lose their passion and drift away. Rebrands don't help matters either, even if they are later reversed.

This is it for me, lower leagues used to be able to spend £45 on the entire day, coach with the RAMS, ticket, drink, food etc. Now you wouldn't get much change from just the ticket for that. Plus I think people like to go to new grounds, and most people who travel often away have done most of them.

So you have to win the Premier League to generate a good atmosphere in a new stadium?
There is no doubt that an (almost) all seater stadium and having the away fans so far removed from our noise making contingent, has had a detrimental effect on the atmosphere.(amongst several other factors such as pricing / rebrand etc)
I admit that Ninian Park was not always noisy and intimidating, but it was far easier to whip up the atmosphere there, than at the CCS.

It's pretty obvious isn't it? Rather than having sold their souls, they have become souls that don't go anymore. It's an easy habit to break and I for one know plenty, most of who have been going since the dark days. So proud they couldn't bare to see what was going in, but like a divorce but football not women.....look at the away stats this season, incredible, less than Fulham and Brentford.....
