UPDATED " NEW CONTRACT FOR RUSSELL SLADE "

Thu Apr 14, 2016 4:33 pm

Just hearing

Cardiff City set to end uncertainty over Russell Slade by handing him new contract as Bluebirds boss.

Russell Slade is set to remain Cardiff City manager next season and is already preparing for the 2016-17 campaign.

The under-fire Bluebirds boss was given just three matches to keep his job earlier this season, but responded by leading his team to victories away at Wolves and Huddersfield.

Despite Slade’s current deal in the Welsh capital running out this summer and much speculation continuing about his future, owner Vincent Tan is set to stick with his manager.

With five games of the Championship season left, Slade is focused on trying to see his side finish in the play-offs and have a crack at promotion to the Premier League.

But irrespective of what division the Bluebirds do end up in next term, it is virtually certain the 55-year-old will be handed a new contract according to impeccable sources

Malaysian businessman Tan has been left reasonably happy with the job Slade has done with the Bluebirds this season, a campaign that has also seen Slade change the opinion of many supporters who were critical about his reign.

There has also been a dramatic increase in crowds at the Cardiff City Stadium as the season draws to a conclusion, with another bumper gate expected against QPR this weekend.

A meeting will be held about Slade’s future after the final game of the campaign at home to Birmingham, but the manager is already making plans for next season.

Slade is working with the club’s hierarchy to pencil in potential friendly matches for pre-season and is heavily involved in the planning of the club’s summer tour.

Slade has even started to identify potential signings in the summer transfer window with a view to strengthening his squad.

There is a growing train of thought amongst Cardiff’s powerbrokers that Slade could act as a secure pair of hands to take the Bluebirds forward. We understand there are also genuine doubts about who might actually replace him if a change were considered.

One major aspect is the good working rapport the manager has with Tan, who personally brought Slade to the club. There are doubts about whether a new boss could enjoy such a close understanding with the Bluebirds owner.

No decision has yet been made on what type of deal Slade will get. But it looks likely to be another two-year contract or possibly a rolling one-year deal.

The main focus for the time being is the weekend visit of QPR and a board meeting will be held on Saturday morning ahead of the clash.

We understand Slade’s future will not be on the agenda this time around, with the manger left to focus on the Championship run-in.

This weekend the board is to focus on discussing financial matters with reports about the final settlement of the club’s debt to Langston and Sam Hammam being presented to directors.

Deserved. Hopefully it's similar to when DJ was here, a rolling contract.

I'm not sure about this, but if VT does give him a new contract, he will also give him some decent money to spend in the summer as he 100% trusts Slade :bluescarf: :bluescarf:

I thought his and the club's target was the playoffs, rewarding failure as it stands.

Let's hope Tan doest give him a war chest to waste

I think he a had his critics including me but from the start of the season with nobody on his side and a transfer embargo he's had his hands tied but still managed to swap and change the team around and is still in contention for the play offs .
So on that evidence you have to now back the man in fairness he's done a good job.
Well done slade.

Well done CCFC. We have the bases of a good side and a manager I trust.

Our elephant in the room is scoring enough goals. I hope this summer we can keep the best of what we have got and add some forwards as well as bringing Rhys Healey into the first team squad. :bluescarf:

Exactly right.

Slade has achieved nothing yet. What if we finish outside the play-offs? As 2blue2handle says, at the start of the season both Slade and the club said that the aim for the season was top 6 - so if we don't get into the top 6 he will have failed in his stated aim.

So why should he get a new contract?

What makes anyone think that Slade will do any better next season than he has done this? If he stays we'll have the same stated aim at the start of next season - play-offs will be the limit of Slade's ambition.

The cynic in me is also not surprised that this news is leaking out now that the season tickets have sold so well.

I've seen nothing form the entire time that Slade has been here to suggest that he can manage a Championship team to promotion. If he's given a new contract it will be another season just like this one - inconsistency, flirting with the play-offs but never quite getting there.

For me, giving Slade a new contract will show that the club is happy to close it's eyes and keep it's fingers crossed that, against all previous evidence, Slade can somehow pull a promotion out of the hat by pure luck.

Another season of drifting along if he's given a new contract. If the club is serious about getting promotion, giving Slade a new contract would be a ridiculous way of showing it.

I bought my season ticket in the hope he would be gone. I still hope he will be gone. A bald pate is not a sign of intelligence , his tactics are a clear sign of a lack of football intelligence. Never in the top six, in fact only those with rose or should that be red tinted spectacles even think we would get into the top six with the bald one in charge. This news is the clearest sign of a lack of ambition at city. Aaaarrrrrgggghhhhhhh!

Totally disagree with you on this!

Top 6 we were aiming for and if that does not happen then he has failed. If we don't go up Marshall,Manga, Noone and possibly Pilks will be gone at least and possibly more. I cannot see RS getting players in as good as them to push on next term, so another season wasted and with the likely relegation of Villa, Newcastle and Sunderland it will be even harder.

Makes me laugh, the football appears better but has come about with his hand forced on injuries and no other options. :digging2: :sladeout:

Slade has done better this season than last, it's called progression.

at the start of the season both Slade and the club said that the aim for the season was top 6 - So why should he get a new contract?
If we finish 7th then it would mean we 'just' missed out on the stated aim. It would be incredibly harsh to judge in such a finite way especially as a replacement doesn't come with a guarantee of success.

For me, giving Slade a new contract will show that the club is happy to close it's eyes and keep it's fingers crossed that, against all previous evidence, Slade can somehow pull a promotion out of the hat by pure luck.
It would be exactly the same with any new manager. With Slade they have a manager who is currently improving season on season and to me that is a sensible approach.

Re: UPDATED " NEW CONTRACT FOR RUSSELL SLADE "

Like it or not, the Slade/Tan axis works. I honestly can't see another manager having the same relationship as them. Ideally I would prefer Warnock but have to admit that I have reservations if Warnock would be able to manage the team the best he can with the constant 'suggestions' and players bought for him.

Admittedly, Immers was a good purchase by the club. However, I fear the introduction of more unknowns will be detrimental in the long run. Immers was a Feyenoord player and a safe bet due to his pedigree. This administration has no record of turning unknowns into superstars.
