Any one for Rugby???

Wed Feb 03, 2016 7:52 am

We all wonder where our full stadium is in cardiff i can tell you that Wales is and always will be a rugby country hate to say it but every man and his dog turns out for the rugby. Millennium stadium a sell out everytime now if Wales football played there which we have before they would open 2 stands a joke. Why don't the Welsh get behind the football as much as the rugby. It makes my blood boil... .. Probably more Welsh in Dublin this weekend than at a ccfc home game. FACT!!!

Not quite true. Go and watch the Blues or the Dragons or the Ospreys and see how many are there. The 6 Nations is almost part of the social callender, and half the spectators there will never watch any other rugby games in their lives apart from the few internationals that they are able to get tickets for. Even my wife has been to some through her work, and she has no interest in any sport. Just a day our as far is she is concerned, with a free meal and drinks thrown in for good measure.

Yea even my mum in law has ticks for the Wales v Scotland game she couldn't even tell you how many players are on the field or what a scrum is, just a piss up I think. Lol.

International yes because it's just a big social event but most of these so called fans wouldn't cross the street to watch their local clubs

The question was, why doesn't,t Welsh Football sell out the Millennium Statium like Welsh Rugby?

Over the course of a year more people in Wales attend football games then rugby. It's not just about the 6 nations.

Na not having that mate Wales rugby could have a test against let's say Australia or South Africa the big stadium would still be a sell out. So it isn't just because it's the six nations.

Re: Any one for Rugby???

so many reasons and still don't know why people are that bothered by it. International Rugby for Wales consists of 5 games in the 6 nations and 3/4 autumn internationals.

The Best players spend a lot of time away from their contracted team to play internationals. The Pro 12 )or what ever it is now) still continues.

If Wales Football were in a 6 nations tournament every year with both ROI and Northern Ireland. There would be rivalry and some bragging rights every year. fans would be keen to get involved.

Rugby fans are considered better behaved. Rival fans can sit next to each other without crying and moaning about it. They are allowed to have a drink in the stadium and the majority enjoy it without wanting to fight the world or throw things at each other.

Rugby is a social game. From kids rugby right through to 50 year old men still trying to play the game. Most things are left behind on the field and then talked about after as more of a joke. "sorry I punched you mate, fancy a beer" type of thing.

Whilst fans in Wales will watch Cardiff, Swansea, Newport and Wrexham, other teams have quite poor attendances. Welsh league for example. Rugby in Wales is slightly different. The regions don't get that many week in week out but they are not playing the best players week in week out. Fans also support their local clubs a bit more. The Welsh Premiership still has a lot of fans, as do some in the championship.

There is also more regional rugby on tv so people don't always go to the games but may have a few beers in their rugby clubs whilst watching it on tv.

I myself like both sports. Would rather watch a random game of Football over a random game of Rugby. Atmosphere is another thing. You can't take away the atmosphere of Wales Rugby games. Always loud an passionate. When we beat Italy was good but apart from that most of the games have been air horns and the odd chant of Wales, Wales.

Even the most stubborn Football fan will find it hard to argue that the 6 nations brings a buzz around Wales. The pubs are full, the stadium is full, people are excited. Put that against a football friendly against Albania it's bound to be different.

Waffled on but that's some reasons I think,

Pretty much same thing ain't it empty stadium is same as not getting behind the team proves it by all the space available.

Have no time for the egg whatsoever, think it's the most boring shittest sport ever created.

Grown men parading around a field touching eachothers bollocks at the every chance, and don't get me started on them middle aged slappers pissed up wearing cowboy hats with daffodills.

f*cking hates it I do !!

If there was a game of minority sport 'rugby' in my garden, I'd shut the fekin curtains. Stereotypical crap for frustrated fatty Welsh women and valley pretty boys on steroids. More arrests during a day of minority sport in Cardiff than at football for a whole season and domestic violence in the valleys (with tattood 'Facebook using' ) wives beating their husbands up if Wales lose this meaningless excuse for sport.

Let's get this shite out of the way and move onto the real deal - Wales in Euro 2016 in the worlds biggest sport!!!!

FUK THE EGG!!!!!!

Re: Any one for Rugby???

Wed Feb 03, 2016 2:59 pm

f**k the egg, f*cking hate the 6 nations the time when everyone are rugby experts comes out of their shell thinking they now what the f**k is happening, the pubs will be full of pissheads fighting and making a God damn f*cking nuisance, the cowboy hats and dafodil hats will be out for sure! Bring on the euro's I bet it won't be as crazy as that miniature tournament! :sleepy2:

Because we don't play there now? So cannot say wether last thew games would have! Suspect they would have sold out though?

Re: Any one for Rugby???

Only game to sell out at home this year is Scotland... Italy game still has around 20,000 tickets left and France game has around 7,000 tickets left. WRU charging £60 per game is ridiculous for the cheap seats.

The six nations is an absolutely fantastic event, it's the best rugby tournament in the world , personally I love international rugby.. Nothing wrong with liking both sports :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Re: Any one for Rugby???

Wed Feb 03, 2016 6:18 pm

The rugby is just a social event,I'd say around 30 percent of the stadium don't have a clue, and more don't watching it in the pubs, ask someone the difference of a maul and a ruck and they wouldnt know the answer, people like going into town for the atmosphere, where they know it will be no trouble,if it was football, you d have the segregation which causes a bad atmosphere

Re: Any one for Rugby???

Wed Feb 03, 2016 6:20 pm

If got seats behind posts crap view not with going as need to watch the TVs and have radio to hear refs decisions! Not to mention constant people walking in front of you in steady stream all game long! :o

Re: Any one for Rugby???

Wed Feb 03, 2016 7:25 pm

Quite enjoy the 6 nations myself as its a good social event where everyone is down the pub getting pissed, wouldn't pay to watch it mind and wouldn't even consider club rugby.

Come on the BOYOS :laughing6:

Re: Any one for Rugby???

Wed Feb 03, 2016 8:56 pm

I enjoy both sports especially when Wales play. Cardiff City have always been my football club but also support Bridgend RFC my home club, I choose the games I want to attend.
I think at Club level, football and rugby support is about even as you have to look at whole country. Four professional football clubs have an average of about 45k fans between them and 4 rugby regions average is about 35k but with the 12 Premiership rugby clubs you can add another 10k supporters and all the smaller rugby clubs in Wales have supporters while Welsh league football clubs and below have very few.
At International level there is only one winner,Rugby who sell out almost all matches at the MILLENNIUM Stadium, all 6 Nations matches HAVE already been Sold out,see WRU website.
Success at Rugby is the main reason but I,m sure if our football team do well in the Euros they will also sell out millennium stadium.
Cardiff City in Premiership will also sell out their stadium 33k no problem, Cardiff Blues had a record crowd of38k at Millennium when they were successful in Europe. Supporters will follow both codes when successful, let's hope both codes have more success in the near future.

But a test against say Canada and the stadium wouldn't be sold out. It's not just about playing the big teams mate.

Under Mark Hughes we sold out the Millenium Stadium v Serbia, Finland and Azerbaijan. I think some of these on this thread have not been football fans for long.

So if we played Brazil in the big stadium tomorrow it would be a sell out would it? f**k off who you kidding it would be half empty and you know it.

Why you not accepting that rugby in Wales pulls a bigger crowd than football in Wales it's a fact it's not made up its the truth, f**k me thick or what.
