Eddie Davies Blocks Cardiff City Move for Josh Vela

Bolton owner Eddie Davies is said to be blocking Josh Vela's move to Cardiff City, after the Bluebirds had a £500,000 offer accepted by Wanderers.

Cardiff made an initial approach for Vela in December, but have now made their move with a formal offer after the Trotters' precarious financial situation hit critical stage.

Now, in a dramatic twist to recent events at Macron Stadium, Davies, according to The Sun journalist Alan Nixon, has made his opinion known regarding a potential sale of the 22-year-old and is determined to hold on to a player that has progressed through the club's academy since the age of eight.

With the futures of Zach Clough and Mark Davies up in the air, with respective moves to Bristol City and Sheffield Wednesday in doubt, both players, along with Vela, could be surprise additions to the Wanderers squad for Tuesday's Championship fixture at Hillsborough.

Surely hes better recouping several millions back from players when he can ?

After all if he`s selling for £1 it makes no differences .

I acknowledge new buyer will have to pay off debts but strange decision ?

Re: UPDATED " Cardiff City blocked from buying "

Trying to sell club with as many assests as possible. If he has assests worth £500K, this is a good incentive to prospective buyers, towards all the debts they will inherit.
He cannot reduce the asking price. It would be ED benefit to get the £500k, but the new buyers would have lost £1/2m of assests.

The buyers do not want him to sell any players, as when they buy they would like to have some sort of team left

I'm more surprised that we are letting Slade spend some money when he's clearly off in the summer

Re: UPDATED " Cardiff City blocked from buying "

Surely it would be cheaper to buy the whole club for a quid then transfer him?! ;) :D

Re: UPDATED " Cardiff City blocked from buying "

Tue Jan 12, 2016 12:08 pm

they need to raise 2 million by next monday. cant see him blocking anything personally

Re: UPDATED " Cardiff City blocked from buying "

They wont sell any players until they know they have or have not found a buyer.

A players value is an asset of the club - unless of course we offer them all the money up front.

No one would buy a club with that much debt, cant blame them for trying though.

They will be in admin by the weekend I reckon - then we can buy him - hopefully - is he any good ?

I wouldn't trust Slade's judgement

If its too good to be true, it can't be true.

£500K for a defensive midfielder, is he better than Ralls, who probably wouldn't fetch a million ?

We were in a similar position when DJ had to sell Gabs and Ging.

Obviously looking at remaining players being saleable 'assets' for any 'new' owners ;)

I can see his line of thought but hope we get our man!

If the money were mine I would offer them £5m for both Vela and Zac Clough. £5m would be a steal for these two.

Bristol City's £2million bid for Clough has apparently been accepted and our £500k bid has apparently now been accepted so I can't see doubling that combined value would be seen as a steal :geek:

Why would we offer £5 million, when Bolton appear to have accepted a bid of £2 million from Bristol City? ;)

Bolton expect to complete the sale of the club to new owners this week , who will then settle the £2m which is due to HMRC before Monday`s deadline. However , they need to have a "Plan B" so are lining up potential deals for the sale of a few players to pay off the debt if the deal is not completed in time so they don`t risk a winding up by the court. The new owners can then decide if they want to still sell off some players to raise cash to help fund ongoing trading , or put some more cash to fund it.

Any new owner just needs to find £14m (less the £2m to pay off HMRC) to pay off all existing debts , and most of those debts are payable over a longer period of time (bank and director loans etc) rather than immediately , plus a nominal £1 to clear the huge debt due to Eddie Davies who has agreed to write it off. So the new owners would get the club for £14m plus whatever it costs to cover current season losses (maybe £20m before player sales). Doesn`t seem a bad price to pay for a club of Bolton`s size which would then be debt free.
