' So many positives '

There is a lot of negativity on this forum and for every good thing that happens there will be either a wave of anti-Tan negativity or a queue of 'Neg-Ferrets' lining up to tell us why it actually isn't good at all. A new player, OH it's Tony Watt we should be aiming for higher: We need new players, we need to reduce the debt etc. etc. The one that gets me is moaning about ticket prices. This is nonsense apart from making under 16 prices cheaper to lure them in which I think is a great idea. I think that the prices are very reasonable, especially if you buy a season ticket, you can't moan about not spending money on one hand then moan about paying to get in on the other - Where do you think the club gets it's money from???

So let's be positive for a minute and look at 4 good things that we have to be grateful for, is it positive spin? Yes, but we get a lot of negative spin too so bollocks to those who disagree -

1. Attendance - the figures put out are a joke but at the end of the day that is the number of people who have PAID for a seat including non-attending season ticket holders. We have between 13-14k paying fans on average / week. That beats the averages of 4000 supposed die-hards in the old days. Why is that good? Because now we have 13-14,000 die hards who are willing to pay money into the club even after last year when tbh the football on offer was the most dire I have ever seen.

2. Marshall - a great keeper, reliable and pulls off some amazing saves... remember the dark days of Lee Smelt (Bywater!!!, Konstantinopulous!!!!) and similar. The value of a reliable keeper is vastly under rated until you haven't got one. Marshall is great and Moore (our back up at the end of the day) is also better than a lot of what we have had in the past. When you look at Joe Lewis, who is a passable back up keeper and Heaton who is nearly as good as Marshall we have had an abundance of good keepers.

3. Centre Backs - We have two great ball playing centre backs in Manga and Connolly, We have a (slow but) solid bulldozing centre back in Morrison who can also score goals from set pieces. We have Turner (if he is ever fit again) who again takes no prisoners. It is unfortunate that we cannot really afford to play the two ball players as our first choice because they tend to get out muscled in the air, but maybe now they are playing together hopefully they will find a way to cope.

4. A long term plan - It is plain to see that our team is being evolved slowly so that we have young hungry players and are slowly but surely ditching the jaded, worn out names, plus the under performers. Out - the likes of Jones, Macheda and Le Fondre big names that have never performed, also possibly Whitts who has performed but is fading and keeping him is stopping us getting in a younger replacement. Who else should go be and replaced with better (or young, dynamic and hungry) - O'Keefe, Mason, Gunnarson, Noone (loses the ball 8 out of 10 times he gets it), Revel, Doyle (his level is Div 1,his touch n the ball isn't good enough for the Championship).

So who have we got that is young - Watt, Saadi, Fabio, Morrison, Ralls (in the wings O Sullivan, Barnum Bobb, The Dutch kid, Healey, Harris Oshilaja, Ajayi etc. that is a big investment in youth that hopefully will produce one or two gems). In their prime (age-wise) we also have Connolly, Manga, Malone and Pilkington with Peltier and Marshall as old heads. That's not a bad balance as a starting point and if the outs happen we could be flying.

5. Passion - there are still a lot of people who love Cardiff City and go week after week hoping that this week we will see a good performance. We are seeing glimpses of much better performances this year, still reverting to dire occasionally, but signs of improvement. That will keep me going week after week, I just want to be able to go down to the ground knowing that we will compete an will have a good chance of winning, that we will give the sides at the top a fright and beat some of them. Hoping week on week that we will give someone that long-awaited hammering :bluescarf: :bluescarf: :bluescarf: :ayatollah:

My negative is the Stadium - It's good points are that it is modern and able to take 33000. The bad point is the atmosphere, I blame the lack of atmosphere on the acoustics rather the crowd. You cannot hear the people at the other end making a noise and I've sat at both ends and experienced it. When the Canton is buzzing it is amazing, but you don't get the effect over in the Ninian no matter how loud they are. Maybe we should ask if the acoustics could be examined to see if they can be improved???

So let's support our club, stop moaning and start talking about those odd magic moments again - that's what we all go for :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :bluebird: :bluescarf: :bluescarf:

Nice to see some positivity for a change.

It's easy to moan and whinge, but to achieve anything is really difficult.

The best thing about this club is there is still a core of good people who really care and make an effort, organising supporters clubs, the Trust, running buses, singing and turning up and backing the team home and away.

As long as you lads keep going there is always hope.

Re: ' So many positives '

Sat Jan 09, 2016 3:30 pm

Agree with a lot of this but not attendances. We've always had 12,000 or so die hard fans when playing in the second division, particularly when we are in the top half. The four thousand die hards were around when we in the bottom division struggling from week to week. If we end up down there again, I would bet that the number of die hard fans won't be anywhere near 12,000.

So the 126 you state is players in and out ie turnover yet you also say 55players out hmmmm rather confusing don't you think
But I suppose it's fits a certain type of agenda better that way .

Yes, but they aren't good enough. You will make mistakes buying cheapies but the risk is a lot lower while the benefits are much greater if you get it right.

They aren't good enough, correct, but they are not young apart from maybe o Keefe, so how does this show we have a long term plan? We are far from a young team, the only youngster Slade uses is Ralls and Malone is in and out of the team.

The only permanent signing that Slades made that makes the team if he's fit is Peltier and he's 30 this year.

I'm sorry but I've seen no evidence that there's anything like a plan or strategy from Slade and the club in terms of using the youngsters.

The signing of Tamas was another waste and contradicts this so called plan.

If bringing youngsters through is the plan then Slade clearly isn't aware of this.

Watt and saadi are young too, plus Morrison. I'm hoping there is a plan, if you look at a lot of the players we ar supposed to be looking at now. They fit the mould of young and hungry. Tbh I'm not sure if many will come through especially with Scott Young involved in coaching them

Morrison is 25 he's not that young and not a Slade signing anyway.

Watt good young player but is only on loan.

Saadi has played for 20 minutes in 4 months.

With the likes of Kennedy and John being totally alienated by Slade and bringing in the likes of Revell and Tamas the wrong side of 30, Peltier nearly 30, Doyle late 20s I'm struggling to see Slade implementing this plan.

Our fans are a bit sheep like. The so-called fan leaders and local media numpties continually moan and bitch about the club, and it's just become difficult for them to stop. They seem quite happy in a peculiar sort of way, and the whinging has developed a momentum of its own.

You're not wrong there Polo but I feel that there is a change in thinking based upon the experience of buying those guys. In reality they weren't bad bets when brought in but just didn't work out. Maybe it's just wishful thinking. Tamas I agree is a complete mystery but my theory on yhat was that they were expecting to sell Manga and wanted cover. The big question as you pointed out is 'is Slade capable of picking decent prospects?'
