Flying to America

Thu Jan 07, 2016 2:00 pm

Im sure a lot of people have been, just wondering if anyone has any tips on best way to get flights.

At the moment we are looking to LA for a couple of nights, Hawaii for a week and then San Francisco for a few days before returning home.

I've never been to America and at the moment we are looking at about £2300 for the 4 flights which doesn't seem totally unreasonable for two of us flying direct but just wondering.

Thanks in advance

Bit of a minefield flights to the US.They can vary depending when in the year you go. There are a few sites that compare prices, such as Skyscanner. Been to the States many times but never to Hawaii. Don't forget to say aloha from me. :ayatollah:

May be worth looking at KLM flying from Cardiff to Amsterdam, then out to the USA. Have a relative who does it about 6 times a year. Cheaper than a direct flight, but usually involves a change at Minneapolis or Detroit or somewhere like that.

I assume you mean the ESTA Form?

If so, make sure it is done on the 'official' site, as there are Agencies masquerading as 'official and will charge a lot more than is needed ;)

There are no direct flights to Hawaii you have to have at least one stop. Klm from cardiff to amsterdam then a klm flight to vancouver clear usa customs there and then an hawaii internal flight. the vancouver to hawaii only operates direct through the spring/summer/autumn months. If you fly into LA hawaii flight all year round direct. My choice would be heathrow to las vegas then direct from vegas to hawaii but have one night in vegas fly the next morning to hawaìi and on the way back a few days in vegas or if you really want to see LA same sort of thing. To tiredness without the stopovers

I work for a large travel tour operator and I very much doubt that the flight cost included your flights down to Hawaii? Some advise for Hawaii, the place is amazing, but not if you stay in Waikiki, you need to venture to other islands. I went there last summer to Waikiki, Maui and Kauai. Maui was my favourite, let me know if you need some recommendations on hotels.

I'm off to Vegas, Hawaii and San Fran in March for my honeymoon and its costing me £6500!!

Indirect flights are cheaper which is handy as you have to pay resort fees on top of your hotel room so keep an eye out for that.

Yes that's the one. Be prepared for long immigration queues too and don't even attempt humour with them. First time I went, was to Houston but as it was with NW Airlines we went in via Minneapolis St Paul and were greeted by a Mountie with no queue. The connecting flight only took two hours and we were clear of immigration which is chaos in Houston, so it may be worth thinking about a non direct option as it could save time as well as money in the long run. The flight via Dublin is a good idea but when I checked recently the prices were astronomical.

Flights to LA and return from San Fran were about 1300 and around a grand for the flights to Hawaii although not sure that includes baggage for the Hawaiian flights.

Looking for any kind of suggestions, we liked the look of the Waikoloa Beach Marriott Resort & Spa.

We know little of Hawaii so any tips appreciated.

It's good that air prices are starting to come down a lot, that price is very good. Take a look at the Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa, on Kaanapali Beach. I love that whole area.

Looking at flights again looks like we can do Vegas and hotels seem very reasonable.

You'll probably get to spend a day in Oslo too, so a good deal. I've flown with them a couple of times and had excellent service on each occasion.

If you got criminal convictions forget it. Mate of mine lied on his ESTA saying he had no crim convictions when in reality he has about a dozen lol, and he got in, but crapped himself on the plane going to America, but if you get caught lying its depotation or worse.

Very rare mate.

Personally if you gonna hop go via Dublin.

Stobbart airlines to Dublin , do your immigration clearance there..... well worth.

The time in between Dublin wasn't worth it for the price.
When i worked. At Cardiff airport I dealt with enough klm bags and if it was one person flight that was good. Price and interconnecting wasn't worth it.

Fantastic in California Chief. If you get the chance visit Yosemite National Park truly one of the most beautiful places I have visited. San Fransisco a wonderful place and Alcratraz is a must. If you can the Grand Canyon is worth a visit.
Sounds a wonderful trip you have planned always wanted to visit Hawaii and that is on my bucket list. Sure I will do it one day.
