' HAD IT BEEN A NEW MANAGER TODAY THEN '
Had it been a new manager today, as many fans want, then fans would be singing the guy's praises but because it is Slade it seems he won't get much recognition for the win.
I haven't read any reaction on here yet but I am hoping it is nothing like what I heard on Radio Wales in the car on the way home.
Firstly it was a welcome three points today, albeit against a poor Blackburn side, Slade made changes to his team today, one was probably enforced with Kenwyne Jones heading out of the club and his other one was playing Maline ahead of Fabio.
Russell Slade was heavily criticised in October and November for the lack of chances and consequently goals so he changed his style to a more attacking way but suffered at the back, by conceding more, as a result.
I personally welcomed Malone replacing Fabio, though I enjoy watching the Brazilian marauding the touchline and his never say die attitude and commitment to the cause but he undoubtedly leaves us exposed in defence and as a defender that is not a good trait, whereas Malone offers more in terms of defence and with our best defender at set pieces, Kenwyne Jones, not in the squad, Slade maybe took that into consideration for defending corners and free kicks.
When Slade replaced Mason for Stuart O'Keefe, the moans and groans in the section of The Ninian where I sit were surprising; surprising because when we were two nil up against Burnley, fans came on here and Radio Wales questioning the manager's tactical nous, asking why we didn't put an extra man in midfield to see the game out.
Today Russell Slade played a diamond midfield with Gunnarsson at the bottom and Ralls at the tip, with a quarter of the game remains and winning one nil, he made the change and went 4-5-1, why can't fans give the man some credit at least.
Had another manager been in charge today and paired Mason and Watt together for the first time, played a diamond midfield to then change it to a 4-5-1, kept a clean sheet then I absolutely believe I would be hearing 'that's how to do it Russell Slade!!'.
I have said time and again that I am not a fan of Slade and doubt he can take us to the Premier League but I am not so bloody one eyed to be negative and critical at him just because I am not a huge believer in the guy.
For crying out loud, can't people give praise for the good things he does ?
Slade recognised that we can't keep conceding goals as much as we have been recently and went back to being more defensive today and got rewarded for doing exactly that.
We want entertainment, and today was not a spectacle of football at its best I agree, but after the recent run of poor results we needed three points, the manager got those points and kept us in the hunt for the play offs.
Don't be so blinkered City fans and see things for what they are, do you think Slade wants to get rid of a player of the level of Kenwyne Jones?
I don't think he does but circumstances at the club, or the owner rather, dictates who goes and when.
Slade is on record saying he wants to keep his best players and losing your top scorer from last season would be a huge blow to the manager.
We got two tough away games up next in the league, Hull and Wolves respectively, I hope we can get something from both games though I don't expect too much if I am honest so there will be opportunities for those knives to be sharpened yet again but at least give the man this result to celebrate at least.

No real need for me to post now, sums up my feelings entirely

Im sorry but I certainly would not be celebrating any manager after that win, has to go down as one of the worst games under the CCS lights this season.

I saw it a bit different.
Ralls played the base and gunnar the top. O'Keefe come on and played almost the same role as Mason, but never got ahead of Watt.
Whatever it worked and we have our 3 points. 442 away and we'll get ripped a new one with those two away games, but lets ride the wave, we ain't going to be drawn into a relegation battle.

You'd only have heard that because the guy redused to do it all season and we've dropped alot of points due to it. But I am glad he seems to have learnt his lesson, next few games are critical for our season

There were lots of complaints in the Ninian when we slowed the game down in the last 5 minutes or so too, rather than chase a second goal. Are these people for real? This sport is about getting wins and protecting them, and what City did today after going ahead is no different to what any other quality team would do. Hell, feels like every Premiership game ends with the ball down in the corner when someone is only the one goal up in the 90th. City try that, and the moaners are out in full force.
Slade got my respect for switching to 4-5-1 (seemed a 4-2-3-1 set up, to be exact?), and it did the trick and even created some more opportunities for us when Rovers pushed for a late goal. This tells me Slade has been experimenting in training, and that can only be a good thing - he NEEDS to be playing 4-5-1 away from home, in my opinion).

James, I get annoyed at some of the stick the manager gets when it is uncalled for

It does seem he gets a bashing for the sake of it.
I wouldn't be surprised if he asked to go and apply for another job if I am honest, I can't see how he is ever going to get fans onside no matter what he does.

I agree with your view on Ralls and Gunnar, I also thought O'Keefe looked like a fish out of water neither midfield or forward when he come on. Thankfully we were playing a really dreadful Blackburn team who NEVER looked capable of scoring against us.
We were the better team in a dire game and deserved the 3 points but much much more is needed, both from the team and the manager, to have any chance of reaching the playoffs.

A brilliant post Carl. There's not many posts I 100% agree with, but yours is one of them. Thank you for giving an honest, fair, accurate opinion of the game. It's good to see there are still fans like you who can be fair, balanced and reasonable unlike the majority of this forum.

Exactly Carl. He must feel like he's pissing against the wind. Not a great fan of his, but when putting everything into perspective he should have some credit. Great starting post Carl

I thought the first half was the most boring I've seen this season and was hoping a seagull would come down and pinch the ball. The second half was much improved and we deserved to beat a very poor Blackburn team. Slade deserves praise for the way the team was set up,my only criticism is why does he keep bringing Amoebi on? or does he have to?

Great post.
Malone actually has more goals and assists than Fabio.
Sat Jan 02, 2016 7:32 pm
If we were top of the league people would still be calling for his head
Awful football ? Yes but we won
Didn't see them calling for Malkys head when we won but played bad football
Sat Jan 02, 2016 7:46 pm
Exactly, spot on, we have a lot of small minded dabs, and a lot that slag he m off don't even go to games.

I agree
very good post mate

I enjoyed today to be honest. It was calm, organised and a little entertaining. When we attacked, it had me off my seat.I was disappointed with the Boos in 116 at half time, like I said last week, not my kind of support.
Myself and my lad moved at half time to the canton, something I've started doing lately and enjoyed the attacks in the second half.
116 has a good view and some entertaining supporters ( including Dai ) but has zero atmosphere.
The canton has the atmosphere but not so great views. It's nice to be able to wander through the stands again

Excellent post. You don't get anywhere in this division without some good defensive organisation- look at Middlesbrough who have 8 clean sheets in a row. We were strong defensively today and still created a good number of chances, albeit against a poor side. We closed out the game in a thoroughly professional manner, and for this the manager must get some credit. The constant attack on our manager is abhorrent and unnecessary. Do I think Russel Slade can manage us in the Premier League? No. Do I think he can get us there? Unlikely, but possible.
How about a few more posts of encouragement for our manager from the leaders of this board?

Carl couldn't have put it better myself, many have fallen out of love with the club. I have fallen out of love with our pathetic fans that used to be the bedrock of the club and while not perfect would back the team manager and each other. A large amount of the current fans are a disgrace to our club.
Poor game, nobody seemed intetested but we did what I said we needed all week. A win. Most who have watched us will know we have been more than entertaining at home of late but you still the clowns ridiculing that performance. That's not dished up every week, if you went maybe you would understand.
Slade isn't the future but it's getting a bit tedious now, as is the constant analyst of the crowd. Maybe fans need to go themselves instead of just moaning non stop on forums.
A terrible chsmpionship and play offs more than achievable.

Hopefully Slade is learning to adapt I was surprised when brought on O Keefe I though it was going to be another like for like sub but good he has put on an extra midfielder to shore things up.

It would be silly to judge him over one game. Think we have seen enough of him to judge him be it a win or loss.

Exactly had it been new manager who had changed it to 451 then he would be changing it at the first attempt to protect a lead not waiting for the penny to drop until the 4th time in 5 games we had the lead before making the obvious change.
