" Can Russell Slade catch them? "

Fri Jan 01, 2016 9:34 pm

Is Russell Slade still capable of making the Top 6 come May?

Just look at the Top 2, 14 & 15pts ahead of us

Then the next 2, 10 & 13pts ahead of us

And even the final 2 teams in the play-offs, 6 & 7pts ahead of us

Who still believes we can do it?

Does it depend on some new signings?

Signings will be pivotal but let's face it other teams will also be looking for quality players to push them over the line and we ain't in a position financially or in terms of momentum to attract the players needed and we need a few

if you would have offered me the position we are in at the start of the season i would have taken it. i remember polls taken on this forum before the season started and most were very pessimistic about our prospects.

what do the fans expect? we have big earners but inflated contracts given to players on the watch of managers before is not slade's work. he is not a water into wine man but who is? i'd give the season 6/10 so far, and if finish in the play offs, 8/10.

a good january could set us up for a good run to the end.

Not a chance. 1 point in 9 against 3 poor sides. Our season is over I'm afraid.

From FB

Dale Perry Realistically I just can't see us closing the gap, before the season started I could only see us being a mid table team because all the cut backs the club were making.

Paul Stan Matthews This league is there for the taking , if we had a decent manager who could change play as we have to players to do it we would be right in the mix , i,m afraid Slade is out of his depth here sadly

The teams are so average all round this season, anyone capable of winning 7 out of 10 can leap to the top spots.
But we are too flimsy at the moment.
Selling the top scorer and goalkeeper will not help at all.

Slade couldn't catch a cold

he needs to go now , warlock, Holloway, dave jones , bellers etc any of these would be preferable to slade

The squad is definitely capable of reaching the play offs, even automatic at the beginning of the season.
What we lack is a manager capable enough to get us there and an owner who has ambition and know how.
:sladeout: and TAN OUT!

If we don't win our next game, and others above us do I think we are finished and will end up at best around 8th

66 points up for grabs. One team nearly always bursts out of the pack around now and Slade needs to make sure that's us!

We have every chance of making the play offs
We have been piss poor away from home and not much better at home and we are still up there fighting
Slade isn't the right man for the job and there are better people out there to do the job however 6-7 points is more than manageable even with slade and our squad

Piss poor away is what's cost us, we have lost once at home

Anything is possible in football, but I'm afraid that we are no where good enough, & that includes the management. I doubt we will even better last seasons tally!

We've drawn too many at home we've only won 6 out of 12. 7th best home record, 14th away.

6 points off 6 place this time of year. Not one team in the last 10 years has achieved a top 6 finish from that position.

I will say we have no chance of a top 6 now thanks to a bad festive period.

Nope he won't catch them either as I didn't expect us to before a ball was kicked and i dont expect us to now. :bluescarf:

I think this squad is very capable of reaching the top 6. However I don't think they are inspired enough to do so, plus Slade seems to lack the shrewd football brain required to do it.

The average tally in last 10 years for teams finishing 6th is 73 points.

So to even hit that average we've got to get 39 points from 22 games (1.77 points per game) when currently we've only got 34 out of 24 games (1.41 points per game). Is that really achievable given Slades inconsistency at Cardiff? Have we ever gone on a winning run of more than 3 games under him? How many times have we won 2 on the bounce? 3 on the bounce?

We've also played a lot of the tougher teams at home and still have to go away to Hull, Boro, Burnley, Wednesday, Brentford from the top 8, the first 4 mentioned in particular have the best home records in the division.

The noises also appear to be selling rather recruiting this window (not a bad thing given Slades recruiting history) so with all of the above in mind is a 25% increase in results possible under Slade?

I certainly don't think so.

I think Watford had that sort of turn around in the second half of the season, what did they do to change things ;)

We are still in contention, as are many other teams who are just as competitive as us. Trying to pin the blame on Slade, as encouraged by the people who run this board, is wrong.

Not being negative n anyway but were only few points off bottom teams too so if we don't pick points up soon were in a right fight.
