Cardiff City striker Kenwyne Jones to end his Bluebirds career and leave club in January

31 DEC 2015

BY STEVE TUCKER

The 31-year-old marksman's time at Cardiff City appears to be up with his departure expected in the coming weeks

Cardiff City striker Kenwyne Jones is set to leave the Bluebirds in January for a bumper pay-day abroad, WalesOnline can reveal.

The 31-year-old marksman will head out on loan from the Welsh capital with a club in Dubai, Qatar, China or America’s MLS the likely destination.

The deal will become permanent in the summer when Jones’ current contract comes to an end at Cardiff.

The Bluebirds hierarchy have decided to get the Trinidad & Tobago international off the wage bill after Jones and his representatives decided against signing a new contract in the Welsh capital which would have seen the frontman’s wages slashed.

Jones is currently the highest paid player at the club, on a basic salary of £35,000 a week. This figure is seen as unsustainable as Bluebirds’ owner Vincent Tan has called on manager Russell Slade to cut his playing budget over the past year.

Jones joined the Bluebirds in January 2014 from Stoke in a deal which saw Peter Odemwingie move in the opposite direction. Jones has made 67 appearances for Cardiff, firing 19 goals in the process.

He was the Bluebirds’ top-scorer last season. As Slade’s men try to cling onto their hope of a Championship play-off place this term, Jones has scored five so far, his latest coming as he fired a brace in the win over Brentford earlier this month.

The transfer window will now reopen from this Saturday and Jones’ representatives are thought to already be in negotiations with a clutch of overseas’s clubs.

Slade himself is set to make the signing of Tony Watt permanent when the striker’s current loan deal from Charlton comes to an end on January 16.

Jones’ departure will also see the Bluebirds on the look out for a new target man. It looks likely they will try to bring in a striker from the Premier League on loan if possible to fill the big boots left by Jones.

I guess that's why Revell has been brought back. It also explains why Kenwynne has performed so poorly.
I'm looking forward to seeing Watt and Idris Saddi playing together.

Has divided opinion more than any other player, think it's fair to say we shake hands go separate ways and move on. Am not one for abusing players like you see on here, he has plenty of pros and plenty of Cons but those have been with him his whole career. He is what he is, not irreplaceable especially on 35k.

Macheda is dog shit, he's another we should get shot of, he's lazier than Kenwynne. .

Might explain his half hearted displays.

Need to bring in a replacement now.

There was talk of a fast strong striker from the continent to come in.
Hope that comes to fruition.
Glad to see that Watt is going to stay.

Fact Jones is going on 'loan' suggests either we will get a loan fee for him, or we will cover part of his wages.
Hope it's the former

Bad news for us. He'll be a big miss.

The Neanderthals will get what they want and Revell will be back in the team running around like a headless chicken

Oh but at least he puts a shift in

Can't believe this is happening!ffs were stuck with macheda who is without a doubt much more lazy than Jones and not to mention revell who couldn't hit a barn door with a shotgun.

Excellent news. Hopefully, we can use his wages to bring in a decent striker who WANTS to give 100% for us every game.

That would make sense in June, not in January..

If we sign a Premier striker on loan, just hope it's Bamford. Won't miss Kenwyne....No effort , movement or guile.....Not to mention pace!

Why? We are not going to challenge for the playoffs with a lazy, inconsistant, frustrating, overpaid mercenary leading our line until the end of the season.

It makes perfect sense to offload him now and bring in a replacement who can make the difference the second half of the season.

We are not going to produce the necessary consistent performances to challenge with Kenwyne Jones leading the line, especially now he's sulking about his reduced contract offer.

Be course Tonteg. We don't have ha chance in hell replacing him, and we have no one to step up. I know you rate Revell, but come on. Saadi and Macheda haven't played for a long time, so we are talking March before they can step up. We haven't even signed Watt, so we might end up with Revell and Mason again.. Make use of Kenwyne till his contract run out..

So am I - Saadi looked very good in his brief appearance - stocky, hard to push off the ball , skilful and knows where the goal his

I personally think Kenwyne is very easy to replace at the moment the way he's playing. There are plenty of strikers out there who will contribute to our team a lot more than Kenwyne for the remainder of our season imo.

How many has he scored in the last 12 months 6,8 ?

He's not justified his wages and we 'should' be able to do better for the money

He will probably get that and then after a while they will realise what they have bought.

Lazy, slow and grumpy best off with him, won't be missed.

With his potential wages off the books, this should also leave some monies for a decent replacement.
We knew what we were getting when we signed him and never ever worth the wages we paid him.
Good luck to the next club, probably his last decent payday.
A serious waste of a decent talent.
