If we start with this line up we have a better chance of winning this match. Forest will be looking forward to the game, especially the second half, so depending on which of our three managers get their own way, be it Trollope's all out attack, Young's all out defence, or Slade's all out indifference, I think we're on for another 2-2 home draw but I'm hoping for a 2-1 win personally.

Dougie Freedman hopes Nottingham Forest can keep their momentum going when they head to Cardiff City, after seeing them extend their unbeaten run to six games in the Championship.

The Reds were disappointed not to take all three points from a 1-1 draw with Leeds United at the City Ground, after Nelson Oliveira had given them a first half lead – before the home side then missed a number of opportunities to extend their advantage.

But, despite the frustration of Sam Byram's 81st-minute equaliser, Freedman believes it is important the team remain unbeaten as they head to Wales for another difficult Championship clash – and was satisfied that his side at least remain unbeaten.

"We are still unbeaten heading to Cardiff and, if you had told me we would get a point against an in-form Leeds side, I would not have viewed that as being the worst result in the world," said Freedman.

Cardiff take on Nottingham Forest as they look to bounce back from two successive defeats against Birmingham and MK Dons resspetively. Russell Slade’s men fell to a late deeat at Stadium:MK on Boxing Day.

The Bluebirds have now slipped four point behind Ipswich Town in sixth place following the defeat to strugglers MK Dons and with two conseutive home games starting with this, the pressure is on Cardiff to deliver two wins in order to stay in the mix going into the new year.

We have now played half of the Championship fixtures and the fixtures now begin to reverse. When the two sides met earlier in the season, Cardiff took three points home from the City Ground with a 2-1 win.

In their last outing, Forest drew 1-1 against Leeds United with Nelson Oliviera getting his sixth goal of the season. Forest have won just one of the last five meetings against Cardiff and have lost the last four against their Championship rivals.

Forest are currently in thirteenth position in the Sky Bet Championship and after a very poor start, they are slowly clawing back their season. Forest are, in fact, unbeatn in their last six games with three wins in that time.

Nelson Oliviera is Forest’s top scorer with six goals and centre-back Matt Mills is two goals behind on four. Forest had to rely on free signings and the loan market in the last window after the breaking financial fair play rules resulted in a transfer embargo and they will have to do the same in January after being handed anothr embargo.

Team News

Cardiff City

Cardiff will be without Sean Morrison who is out for five-to-six weeks while Matt Connolly faces a battle for fitness after picking up an injury last time out. Ben Turner will be out until around April with a seious ankle injury. Idiss Saadi is another who will miss this one with a hamstring injury keeping him out until the new year. Craig Noone is likely to start with the tricky winger scoring after replacing Sammy Ameobi in Cardiff’s last outing.

Nottingham Forest

Forest have a mostly fit squad with very few injury problems. Cardiff will have to be weary of on-form Carlos Oliviera in the Forest line-up as well as Matt Mills who is potent from set-pieces.

Malone has been one of our best players recently, no way he should be dropped. Maybe Fábio in for Peltier. Start Macheda alongside Watt too.

Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Dorus de Vries hopes the team can continue to build momentum with a victory at Cardiff tomorrow night.

The Dutchman was helpless to prevent Sam Byram scoring an excellent equaliser for Leeds yesterday as Forest were held to a 1-1 draw at The City Ground.

But he is hoping to convert yesterday’s frustrations into success in the Welsh capital tomorrow, against a side who have won only twice in their last seven matches.

Speaking after the Leeds game, de Vries said: “It might be a good time to play them but, on the other hand, they will have had two days off and we’ll have had one as we’re travelling tomorrow (today). We don’t want to use that as an excuse of course – we want to go for the three points.

“We’ve got a little run going and we’re looking forward to the Cardiff game because we want to put things right by taking three points and keeping our momentum.“

Yesterday’s draw took Forest to within seven points of sixth place ahead of today’s Sky Bet Championship fixtures.

Revenge is the motivation as Nottingham Forest head to Cardiff, says Dorus de Vries

By Nottingham Post

Tuesday December 29 2015

Forest's players look dejected after Cardiff score at the City Ground in August.

Nottingham Forest will be motivated by the desire for simple revenge at Cardiff City, says keeper Dorus de Vries.

Dougie Freedman's side will be looking to extend their six-match unbeaten run in South Wales – but will also be seeking a first away win since September.

And, while Dutchman de Vries admits that will be a significant inspiration, he also says Forest are determined to get some payback over the Bluebirds, following their 2-1 success at the City Ground back in August (pictured).

The Reds were frustrated not to notch up a fifth straight home win against Leeds on Sunday, as the visitors snatched a 1-1 draw with a late goal.

But de Vries insists Forest will still head to Cardiff in positive mood – and with no shortage of incentives.

"We go to Cardiff unbeaten still and that is a big thing, because we want to keep that going for as long as we can," said de Vries.

"We were disappointed to draw with Leeds, when we feel we should have taken three points.

"But we are going to learn from that and we will look ahead. We have a good opportunity at Cardiff and, more than that, we have a score to settle with them as well.

"They beat us at the City Ground and we do not forget that. They beat us at home and we want to make amends for that by returning the favour."

Forest's last away win came at Birmingham in mid-September, but they did produce solid performances in their last two games on the road, at Wolves and Blackburn.

And de Vries does feel as though Forest are getting stronger all the time.

"We have had some good away performances recently, but we have not quite got that win," he said. "We do feel as though we are at a turning point for us now though.

"We are on a good run of form. We are making a steady progression all the time."

"We are learning from our mistakes, we are taking everything on board that the manager tells us and we do feel as though we are coming together as a team," de Vries added.

"That has to be a good thing, because there is still a long season ahead of us and we are now in a position where we are definitely looking upwards."

Keeper de Vries, naturally, was disappointed not to keep a clean sheet against Leeds.

But, even after Sam Byram had cancelled out Nelson Oliveira's goal for Forest, he felt they still might have snatched all three points, with Oliver Burke unlucky to see a fierce volley bounce back off the post, after he had come off the bench.

"I am disappointed that we did not get more, to be honest. We had a couple of counter attacking opportunities, we hit the post as well – we could easily have got a 2-1 victory," said de Vries. "On the flip side of that, they had a little spell where they had some pressure on us, at the back.

"But we dealt with that well, asides from when we let them, unfortunately, have a strike from the edge of the box that found the bottom corner.

"After we had been ahead for the majority of the game, that was a real kick in the teeth.

"But we can still look to the future positively, because in the past we might well have lost that game.

"That shows that we have character, we are getting better and better and we can rightly look forward to the next game, with a positive mood."
