We miss Whittingham

Sat Dec 26, 2015 6:40 pm

Time to bring him back .
His creative passing would be perfect for watt to run on to now we have that type of player and was exactly what we missed today, that little bit of quality to reply open up a defense with a precise pass . He's had his break now it's time for him to prove himself . Slade needs to find a way to fit him in to his side one way or another because we are a poorer side without him .

But we always win every game he doesn't play?...Don't we?!??

whitts day is gone .... its either a forward or backward pass and offers nothing from dead ball play anymore. Its a new midfield player we want AS SOON AS FECKING POSSIBLE

Offers nothing from dead ball?!? We've scored many goals this season from his corners and free kicks.

Last season they were our main source of goals ffs

whats wrong with a forward pass :?

He offers a lot of composure on the ball which was sorely missed today especially second half . His passing is probably the best in the championship . Slade today admitted himself that we lacked the quality of final ball/through ball into the box . Whittingham is the man to provide that imo at the head of the midfield just behind watt .

He slows the game down to much ... there is no urgency in his play its SAFETY FECKING SAFETY even when losing games. He`s been a great player in his day but his day is gone!

From what i have seen of Watt he can hold his own physically, so unless our game plan is to kick it aimlessly down the middle of the park all game, we can let Jones go for another midfielder (hitts) and push the whole midfield up 10 metres.

I think this December break will do Whitts the power of good both physically and mentally.

perhaps when we were winning 2-0 that may have come in handy.

Joe ralls 5 assists ... scott malone 3 assists, tony watt 3 assists, fabio 3 assists and the last 3 dont take every free kick and corner and 2 play in defence.. If you took the time to actually watch whitts this year you`d see for yourself that the player offers us feck all going forward FACT. He`s sitting in the right place on the bench because at least we are actually looking like a team trying to win games because when whitts was in the team it was absolutely dire.

the 6 bookings sum him up ... to b*stard slow to the ball so gives away stupid bloody fouls

Re: We miss Whittingham

When Whitts was in the team we didn't have Tony Watt making runs for him.

Put him in a midfield 3 with the legs around him or just keep burying you're head in the sand 442 and get over run in midfield against the better more adaptable sides.

Win one, draw one, lose one. Get nowhere in the process.

Ralls, Whitts and Dikcagoi with Pilks and Noone on the wings is the best we've got. Slade won't ever use it because he's a dinosaur.

Not sure I'd play Pilkington in a 5 man midfield, he tends to drift infield a lot. Kennedy should be on the bench minimum

Re: We miss Whittingham

Sat Dec 26, 2015 11:40 pm

I dont even think the whitts of today would fit into a 5 man midfield .... last season he was out of sorts, but this season he`s proved to me he needs to move on. I hate talking like this because he as been and will always be one of the greatest players to wear the blue [and red] shirt. There was one time this season when i was in direct line to a pass that he saw and had plenty of time to execute but looked and passed it back. That pass would of put us clean through on goal and HE SAW IT but didnt have the ability or confidence to do it .... RALLS would have executed that pass and he is the future and the type of player we need if we are SERIOUS about getting into that top 6. So come january i hope to feck we bring in a top quality midfielder.

Re: We miss Whittingham

Didn't have the ability

It was probably to Revell so he kept possession instead :laughing6:

Here is another FACT despite his limitations and having played 18 out of 23 games , he has created 43 chances and 5 assists
The next best is Joe Ralls , creating 25 chances and 5 assists having played 22 out of 23 games

Slade's philosophy on how the game should be played has been found wanting on many occasions this season , we don't have the players to play his set in stone 4 4 2

Whatever our views and differing opinions are , the crux of the matter is when our midfield gets overrun its Slade's failure to counteract any changes made by opposing managers , its obvious to everybody but his lack of tactical nous is alarming

Re: We miss Whittingham

I have no doubt that Whitts will be back against Forest because in his post match interview RS has said "We didn't have anyone to keep hold of the ball". Sorry Russ you did but had him sat on the bench.

It is a side of his game that sadly far to many of our fans miss but the reality is that if you look at statistics relating to loss of possession so far this season Ralls has lost possession because of a poor first touch 23 times, with Whitts it's just 8 times, Ralls has been caught in possession 28 times, with Whiits it's just 5.

Every team needs a player who can hold onto the ball especially at times when the team may be out of formation following a break up in play. For us the players who best cope in this situation are Whitts and Dickagchoi and it may require them passing the ball sideways and backwards to get the team back in solid possession. Unfortunately to some of our fans this is unacceptable as they obviously prefer we loss possession easily, in the wrong areas and ultimately concede.

In my opinion it is no accident that since we have lost the Whitts/ Dickgachoi CM partnership we have started leaking goals. As regards the delivery from set pieces since Whitts has been out of the team nothing more needs saying as there is no comparison to the quality he brings with him.

Time for this failed experiment of dropping Whitts to end.

At the sacrifice of losing the entertaining value.

Saying that with Watts up front now and a 451 set up it might not be such a sacrifice as I fear.

Spot on Watt would have a field day with the passes put through to him.

DJ was the only manager who played Whitts the right way so I cannot see him being played.

Maybe an 8000 crowd against Forest will send a message, supporters who have paid to go and watch are already asking why should I waste even more :sladeout:
