Swansea sack manager Garry Monk
By Lyall Thomas

Swansea City has today reluctantly parted company with manager Garry Monk.
Vital Football
09/12/15
With the recent uncertainty surrounding the club, the decision has been made in the best interests of Swansea City Football Club and its supporters.
Swansea City Chairman, Huw Jenkins, confirmed: “The decision has been made very reluctantly and with a heavy heart.
“To find ourselves in our current situation from where we were in the first week of September, and considering the drop of performance levels and run of results over the last three months, it has brought us to this unfortunate decision today.
“Garry took on the job 22 months ago with the backing of everyone at the club. And when you take into account the excellent campaign we had last season when we broke all club records in the Premier League, nobody foresaw the position we would be in at this moment in time.
“Bearing that in mind and the current uncertainty around the club, we felt the situation needed clarity to move forward.
“It was not a decision we took lightly, especially given Garry’s history and standing within the club. And it goes without saying that we wish Garry all the very best for the future and thank him for his tremendous service, not only as a player over the last decade, but also as our manager. He will always have a warm welcome at this football club.
“We hope to appoint a replacement as soon as possible.’’
No further comment will be made at this stage, but we will endeavour to keep our supporters informed of future developments.

Swansea have plunged themselves into chaos ahead of Saturday's game at Manchester City with Garry Monk poised for the sack and no replacement ready to take over.
Monk took training on Tuesday morning but dressing-room sources have admitted the players are in the dark over who will lead the team at the weekend.
The complication comes from the possibility that Monk's principle coaching team of Pep Clotet and James Beattie will depart with him when he is ultimately let go, leaving precious few options for the trip to City.

Announcement could be delayed
Huw Jenkins has suggested there will not be an announcement today as he is in London receiving his OBE.
Don’t rule out the possibility of that changing though as there are plenty of people inside the club who want the situation resolved sooner rather than later.
Here’s the full story on what Jenkins has been saying
Huw Jenkins: Something needs to change
Swansea City chairman Huw Jenkins has hinted that Garry Monk’s departure is imminent, saying: “Something has to change.”
The Swans have just one win in their last 13 games at Saturday’s 3-0 defeat to Leicester leaves them dangling precariously above the relegation zone.
Here’s what Jenkins has had to say...
We all feel at the club that something needs to change to get things back on a positive note as quickly as possible and get us back to the levels of performances we have got to have to win games at the Premier League level.
The difference between the end of August and how we find ourselves today is something we haven’t experienced at Swansea before, such a big change around from where we were after beating Man United in the last game in August.
I think it just again highlights if things are not dealt with and addressed early enough the Premier League is very unforgiving, and unless every angle and everybody’s focus is 100% week in, week out, things can change very quickly.

Just back from the Land of the Dying Swan and one guy was confident that Huw Jenkins, OBE (
awarded for services to the protection of endangered Brethren
) is about to offer Gary Monk one more opportunity to have an 'experienced mentor' work alongside him...
If true, then Gary Monk has a big decision to make, having refused that route once before!

I don't like Monk and do feel he benefited from excellent previous managers work and style of play.
He did well to transition Swansea after Brenda left but felt he was always going to struggle when they had a blip.
However, the way Huw is acting is awful and I feel sorry for Monk as decisions should not be played out in the public domain.
Either get rid of him or support him.

Swansea sack manager Garry Monk

Annis, I honestly think they'll go down even though they've sacked him. The best they will realistically get is Moyes who's reputation is low now and self-confidence I imagine. Either that or Rodgers back which I don't think would work.
I see more fight in teams like Bournemouth and Sunderland now they have Allardyce.
They're 7/2 to go down and I think that's a good bet.
Wed Dec 09, 2015 4:29 pm
f**k sake I thought he was doing a good job for the small town club

Rodgers 1/2 to get the job according to Sky Bet. Surely they must be going down

For some manageres, momentum is everything. It takes someone a bit special to turn a negative trend.

The best manager Swansea had was Martinez. Rodgers won the league with pretty much his side and way of play. Sousa then came in, made it more defensive but it had not creativity. Then, Rodgers when he took over saw an opportunity and brought in Scott Sinclair and co. to add that cutting edge. It was all Martinez's philosophy from the ground up. The style and everything. If Rodgers goes there I cant see even him keeping them up.

Never go back, if he does it will backfire I think !!!
I think he's overrated anyway, did well from his Chelsea connections the first time, but has since been found out ........
Avram Grant is the right man to finish Monk's great work !!!
