' Russell Slade meeting '

Tue Dec 01, 2015 2:32 pm

Not sure who is attending from here or who will be joining Russell tomorrow possibly ken choo or Mehmet Dalman I assume ,although he may just come alone.

Be interesting to see how fans react to him. Having met him a few times I can say that he comes across as a decent, honest sort of person ,possibly too nice to be a manager.

Fans will have a go at his tactics his style of play etc. No doubt he will point out the restraints he is working under and the fact that results are more important than performance. I am not sure to be honest I do know I love to go to games and feel entertainment was delivered but to be honest all that matters is the result to me and I would happily take 46 one nil wins but for how long I am not so sure...winning is great but sitting through countless boring games still drives fans away.
Anyway be interesting to hear his views

What would you do in his shoes? We played well Saturday, but after dropping 2late points fans on his back. If he sets team out to,play entertaining football and we lose he knows he out of a job. At end of day, it's a results business.

Afraid it wasn't the attractive football but the tactical ineptitude which lost us two points. A five man midfield, with Noone pressing their right back (who ran the show last 15 mins) would've worked.

Well they haven`t done so yet as far as I am aware. I don`t know if other representative bodies like CCSC have been approached with such a suggestion , but I have no reason to believe they have or Vince would surely have said.

Tell him to change to 5-3-2 and drop Whitts and play Manga with someone behind the front two.

I'm glad you feel so strongly

From the above, I can assume you are attending to state the views of this 90% you refer to and I look forward to reading Slade's responses to the questions YOU pose to him on behalf of your followers!

Of course, with me being in the 10% of people you 100% DON'T represent or speak on behalf, I reserve the right to extract the wet yellow stuff at your suggestion that others do your 'dirty' work for you! ;)

Love the football manager tactics on here. Pray, how would 532 work? A 451 would swarm that easier than it would 442.

3 centre backs marking 1 striker = 2 wasted players which would cost us as our 3 in midfield but 1 behind the front man would mean our midfield would be overrun. Our wing backs would be overrun by the opposition full backs and wide midfielders. They could tuck their extra full back or wide midfielder would tuck in or push forward meaning our defence would be overrun and in chaos even with the 3 centre backs.

Fair comment.

Personally I would acknowledge Slade is under constraints but would also point out that the majority of Championship clubs are in the same boat.

If he wanted to listen my advice would be if you want to bore the life out of other clubs on away trips then that's OK by me. However, at home he has an obligation to trust his side and to go for a win. Now and again things will blow up in his face (Bolton 3-0 at home last season springs to mind) but the odd mishap will be forgiven if on the whole the team are seen to be going for it.

It does work, similar system to ManU/Wales, it's basically 3-5-2 in attack and when defending against 1 striker the other 2 centre backs deal with the wingers curtting in while the wing backs press the midfield...

Wales play 5221. Amongst that they have Gareth Bale who always takes out two opposing players which is why it works for Wales.

No i've watched every game they played Bale up top next to Robson-Kanu almost every game. 5-3-2 (3-5-2 with wing backs)

No they don't. Bale has license to roam. He operates as an attacking midfielder with Ramsey.

If the 532 was so good why aren't many teams playing it. 451 is popular for a reason. Sadly not with Slade however I'm not sure Jones could be the front man in a 451.

Yes 5-3-2 with bale license to roam! Heres the shape they played in most matches:

So midfield over run then. It works for Wales as one of our players at the back (Williams) is good on the ball and can offer himself as an extra option. None of our centre backs can do that. Ameobi behind the front man is a total waste.

No Thanks Corky :thumbright: , after being told last time that if I came to the meeting regarding Atmosphere, I was not allowed to mention put home fans by away fans or mentions our fans having banter with away fans, I honestly do feel our club is run like a Dictatorship and thats why half the Ninian Stand is now empty,Ive seen fans told off for just looking at away fans, I don't see a problem with banter as long as NO trouble its been going on in football for over 150 years, just not allowed by Wayne Nash.
