Unlucky own goal or is it lack of concentration
Lack of concentration for me
Although Connelly does a lot of good defensive work I think he is a liability
He's always a worry when he tackles, especially in the penalty area
And all his own goals have been given by lack of concentration
He does tend to panic under pressure
This is probably why his loan moves never become permanent
My back for would always be Manga and Turner when fit
At present I would have Manga and Morrison
Morrison always plays a lot better with Manga alongside him
Connolly is good at back up but not as a permanent fixture
Manga should play every match if fit

Harsh to blame Connolly.

Poor marking in the box, plus Whittingham made no effort to close the Burnley winger down.

Too many goals have come from crosses from our left this season, especially when Fabio isn't playing.

Where was Malone who should have been out there.

Fair play to Peltier, very little seems to come in from our right

I noticed Whittingham made absolutely no attempt to close the Burnley winger down or tackle him. He just tracked him pointlessly. Surely his role at that moment in time was to prevent the cross.

How is that lack of concentration? His own goal away at Rotherham wasn't a lack of concentration either.

Connolly was at fault for both of those goals he didn't stop the guy turning and shooting and the own goal is just comical.

That's because he throws himself infront of everything and has good positioning. He saved one off the line in theorist half

Thank you m'lud. Who in their right mind would call a corner or indirect free kick an "assist". I'll wager you could take them equally as well as Mr. Teflon, Mugs!

Mark Hudson scored a corker at Wolves a couple of seasons back. Goal of the month for me.

Of course it is an assist - and there would be no difference between a direct free kick or an indirect free kick being an assist also. If you think I could take corners as well as Peter Whittingham then you are clearly deluded! :laughing5:

It's a bad habit.
3 last minute own goals in 2 seasons.

Surely we've had our share of bad luck ?

It ain't even close to being an assist, its a nothing. Its just something any professional footballer could do in their sleep. I bet the majority of parks footballers could do it blindfolded. If Peltier was given the chance to take them instead of Teflon Pete he'd probably be on the same number of "assists", come to think of it I dare say David Marshall could. In your case I may well be right; maybe you've got a gammy leg

However, I noticed you carefully failed to comment on your hero's pathetic non attempt at defending for the last goal

An assist is usually made to credit a player's performance. In the case of a corner its something every professional footballer should be able to do, its nothing special. It annoys me when people keep on pointing out corners as assists when the person taking the corner obviously has the advantage over someone who doesn't. Its often used almost as though its a comparable skill to actually scoring the goal. It can't be compared to a real assist in open play and then of course some are more skillful than others.

no that is your interpretation.

an assist is when a player does something that directly leads to a goal

There were 11 players on the pitch - yet you pick out Whitts as the man at fault. You did not comment in terms of the indirect and direct free comment I made and if you look at any of the fantasy football competitions, a corner that is headed in by a player counts as an assist. Own up - if Whitts scored a hat-trick you would still find fault. We clearly have differing opinions - which is fine - but I cant be arsed to discuss it further - let's just see how things pan out.

I picked out Whittingham because he was the nearest to the player and it was his responsibility in that situation to at least attempt to tackle and prevent the cross but, as usual, he didn't! What's new? I'm not interested in fantasy football competitions, I'd prefer reality and for me there's no special skill in taking a corner. If the guy scored a hat-trick of course I'd be pleased, don't be silly. However, for me we have far more effective options than him. I can't be arsed myself since you conveniently evaded my original point anyway!
