Russell Slade on City's injuries

20/11/2015

We are waiting for Kenwyne, he’s the last one back.
He will be in the 19-man squad. We understand there are no injury problems with him.
We want him available of course, he’s an important man for us.

We’ve had one or two other issues and are dealing with them. Nobody is definitely out yet.
One or two are touch and go and they are first team players.

STRIKER Chris Martin is favourite to score first - and Derby County are the bookies' favourites to win

Martin, the Rams' leading goalscorer, has odds of 7/2 with Sky Bet. Darren Bent (9/2), Johnny Russell (5/1) and Tom Ince (11/2) are also up there while Kenwyne Jones and Joe Mason (8/1) are favourites to score first for the Bluebirds.

Derby winning with Sky Bet at 4/7 with odds on a draw at 14/5.

The Opposition

Derby County Football Club /ˈdɑrbi ˈkaʊnti/ is an English football club based in Derby. Notable for being one of the twelve founder members of the Football League in 1888, it is one of only ten clubs to have competed in every season of the English football league system and, in 2009, was ranked 137th in the top 200 European football teams of the 20th century by International Federation of Football History and Statistics.[1]

Derby County F.C. was founded in 1884, by William Morley, as an offshoot of Derbyshire County Cricket Club; it has spent all but four seasons in the top two divisions of English football. The club's competitive peak came in the 1970s when they were twice English League Champions and competed in major European competitions on four separate occasions, reaching the European Cup semi-finals, as well as winning several minor trophies. Additionally, the club was a strong force in the interwar years and won the 1945–46 FA Cup.

The club adopted its now traditional black and white club colours in the 1890s and appropriated its club nickname The Rams, a tribute to its links with the First Regiment of Derby Militia, which took a ram as its mascot and the song "The Derby Ram" as its regimental song,[2] at the same time. Home games are played at the iPro Stadium, formally called Pride Park Stadium, Derby, where the club moved in 1997.

iPro Stadium

Image

Key facts

Club: Derby County FC | Opening: 1997 | Capacity: 33,010 seats

History and description

The iPro Stadium, previously known as Pride Park Stadium, replaced Derby’s old Baseball Ground, which was left after further renovations to turn it into an all-seater turned out to be impractical.

First plans for a move away from the Baseball Ground were made in the early 1990s, but it took several unsuccessful attempts before the club found a suitable site for a new stadium. Construction of Pride Park Stadium finally started in 1996, and it took just one year for the stadium to be completed.

Pride Park Stadium was officially opened on the 18th of July 1997 by Queen Elizabeth II. The first match was played about two weeks later when Italian side Sampdoria visited the stadium for a friendly. Vincenzo Montella scored the first goal at the stadium, and the only one during the match.

In later years, a few thousand additional seats were added to the stadium, resulting in its current capacity.

In 2006, Derby announced plans to expand the stadium with another 10,000 seats, though contingent on Derby staying in the Premier League. The relegation of the club following their first season in the Premier League shelved these plans.

Pride Park Stadium got renamed iPro Stadium in December 2013 following the agreement of a £7 million sponsorship deal with iPro.

Re: LATEST NEWS: DERBY COUNTY V CARDIFF CITY ' UPDATED DAIL

Wed Nov 18, 2015 10:08 pm

Date and Time: Saturday 21st November (15.00)

Venue: Ipro Stadium

Referee: Paul Tierney

The Bluebirds travel to Derby County on Saturday in a top-half clash at the Ipro Stadium, Derby will be looking to make strides towards the automatic promotion places while Cardiff will be hoping they can find a way into the Play-off positions. Derby are currently in fifth place, four points behind the top two and five points ahead of Cardiff in seventh who are three points and one place outside the play-off’s.

Russell Slade’s men went into the international break on a high after beating Reading 2-0, ending their long-running goal drought and they will be hoping that the international break didn’t spoil the little momentum they had built up. Despite losing their last game on their travels, the Bluebirds have an impressive away record with very few defeats away from home in much of the calender year.

Since their last outing Cardiff have decided to loan out striker Alex Revell to League One outfit Wigan Athletic leaving just two match fit strikers at the club. Federico Macheda has recently returned but he will not be match fit due to a not making a single appearance so far this season. Cardiff seem keen to bring a striker in on loan to bolster their options up-front.

Derby were left picking up the pieces of last season when, despite dominating all season, they managed to completely drop out of the automatic and Play-off places and it would cost Steve McLaren his job. Former PSG and Real Madrid assistant Paul Clement was to take the reigns at the East-Midland club and he’s isn’t disappointing.

Clement and his Derby side got off to a tough start to the season but thanks to a good reign of form, the Rams are now safely inside the play-off places. Before the start of the season, County were one of the favourites to win the league but so far it seems in-consistency is what separates them from the summit of the table.
The Rams lost their last fixture, coming out second best to East-Midlands rivals Nottingham Forest at the City Ground in a 1-0 defeat. Before the Forest game, Derby had won three in a row and in their last eleven, they have won an impressive eight games. Derby will be desperate to bounce back against Cardiff as they return home for the first time since their disappointing derby-day defeat.

The last time these two sides met was at the Cardiff City Stadium and coincidently with the same referee in Paul Tierney who gave a controversial penalty (which was saved by Simon Moore) against the Bluebirds in a 2-0 defeat. The last time the two sides met at the Ipro Stadium, Scott Young and Danny Gabbidon were in temporary charge of the Bluebirds who surrendered a two goal lead to draw 2-2.

Team News

Derby County

Craig Forsyth will miss the rest of County’s season due to a cruciate ligament injury picked up before the international break. Andraes Weimann will be expected to start after some good recent form while Cardiff’s target of pre-season Johnny Russell will expectedly start out on the wide. Derby notably have a very strong bench, one that would probably walk into most Sky Bet Championship team’s starting XI with the likes of Craig Bryson, Tom Ince, Alex Pearce and Darren Bent.

Cardiff City

Ben Turner has now been passed as fit but he and Cardiff are keen to get him out on a short term loan deal to his former club Coventry City in League One in order for him to re-gain a good standard of match fitness. Idriss Saadi tore his hamstring in the Bluebirds’ last fixture so he will be out for over six weeks while fellow striker Alex Revell has joined Wigan Athletic on loan until late January. Federico Macheda is now back training and is likely to feature on the bench for the Bluebirds due to the clubs shortage of strikers unless there is an incoming between now and Saturday. Kenwyne Jones played a full 180-minutes for Trinidad and Tobago in their World Cup Qualifying games this week so he may be fatigued but he will likely be expected to start. Bruno Manga will remain out until at least December.

Derby suffered a surprise defeat at Forest last time out which ended their unbeaten run.
The Rams remain in the play-off places and four points off of the top two.
Cardiff are on the cusp of the top six themselves after a good run.
One away win all season is a worry though.

Derby County - It may have been a shaky start to the campaign for Derby, with no wins in their opening five games, but Paul Clement has now adapted into life as a full-time manager and guided his side into automatic promotion contention. Prior to the disappointing setback at rivals Forest last time out, County had not tasted a single defeat since the opening month of the campaign - a run that saw the Rams claim 26 points from a possible 30. Derby really were the team to avoid throughout September and October, but their inability to pick up maximum points early on in Clement's tenure means that they are still very much playing catch up. Four points is now the difference between themselves and joint-leaders Hull City and Brighton & Hove Albion, while Burnley and Middlesbrough have also accumulated more points across the opening 16 games. Clement himself admitted that the 1-0 loss at the City Ground acted as a 'wake-up call' for his players, suggesting that a quick response could be on the cards this Saturday. While their unbeaten run of 10 league games may now be at an end, Derby can still boast an impressive home record that has seen them win each of their last four games. Factor in that three of those four outings ended with the Rams keeping a clean sheet, helping to maintain their reputation as one of the best defensive sides in the division, and it is clear to see why they have been so tough to beat. One of the key aspects of this positive run of form has been the impressive displays of Chris Martin who, after a slow start to the campaign on a personal level, has since chipped in with a combined six goals and assists in his last eight appearances. Re: LATEST NEWS: DERBY COUNTY V CARDIFF CITY ' UPDATED DAIL

Cardiff City - It is fair to say that, across his 13-month tenure as Cardiff manager, Russell Slade had not quite faced any pressure quite like what was witnessed heading into the recent Reading game. A largely mixed set of results, including four draws - three of which ended goalless - throughout October had some fans calling for a change. The perceived bland style of play adopted by the ex-Leyton Orient chief was cited by many as the key reason why they wanted a new man brought in, but Slade certainly relieved some of that building pressure by orchestrating his side's return to winning ways last time out. After one win in seven, in which just two goals were scored by the Bluebirds, City bounced back with a 2-0 victory over fellow playoff chasers Reading to climb into a more-than-respectable seventh place. While the defensive stats make for good reading, with only Derby and Hull conceding fewer thus far, the attacking stats perhaps highlight Cardiff's biggest downfall to date. A run of more than nine hours before a Cardiff player found the net, ending when the returning Kenwyne Jones struck against the Royals, suggests that far more needs to be done up top. Should Jones remain fit he could help solve that problem, having scored with three of his four headed attempts on target so far this season and provided his side with an altogether different threat. No team has scored more goals from headers (7) than Cardiff, in fact, but the latest set of fixtures running up until the new year could ultimately decide the manager's long-term fate.
