Complaining about it being called the English football league.

Why highlight we are playing out of our proper country? We didn't mind playing in the English Premiership.

Stop these muppets from talking.

It's not insulting at all. Tits.

Cardiff City Supporters' Trust claim decision to rebrand the Football League is 'insulting' to Welsh clubs

The Football League will be known as the English Football League from next season

Cardiff City's Supporters' Trust have hit out at the decision to rebrand the Football League to the English Football League, describing the move as “insulting” to Welsh clubs.

The controversial move, which was announced on Thursday, will come into effect for the start of the 2016-17 campaign.

But with the Bluebirds and Newport County currently in the current Football League and clearly based outside England, not everyone is happy at the change of name.

“It's a little bit insulting both Welsh clubs and potentially many more from lower down the football pyramid will be classed as English,” said Supporters’ Trust chairman Tim Hartley.

“The rebranding is factually incorrect and completely unnecessary.

“Newport and Cardiff City are both in the Football League.”
Football League bosses have opted against renaming its three separate divisions but have undertaken “a comprehensive corporate and competition re-branding” for the start of the new campaign.

It involves the creation of a fourth new logo in the Football League's 127-year history but Hartley believes it will count for little at the individual clubs.

“The rebranding will make a lot of money for companies making logos and headed paper but will do nothing for teams playing in the three divisions,” he argued.

“What's the point? The Football League had status, we knew what it meant, why mess with a brand that clearly works?”

Totally agree. Hypothetically, What would this group have said if we had to change the old Welsh Cup to the British Cup as Hereford, Bath City etc. were all INVITED to participate.

I'm still in shock.

It sets us up as absolute idiots. Anyone silly enough to still pay into the trust must surely be thinking of having second thoughts.

Serious question - what are the benefits of paying to be a member?

Good point, agree. This is it exactly. We've always been part of the English league, nothing has changed. Media obviously phoned Tim Hartley for a quote to try to get an angle and they got it. Great work.

Is this Tim talking on behalf of himself?

There is no statement on the Trust site that I can see and anyway judging in their response to the red switch, I'm sure they would have wanted a mandate before declaring their position?

I'm with you boys, it is completely unimportant.

I'm sure I've asked before, I can just never remember the answer...what does the supporters trust do that the supporters club doesn't?

I'm obviously missing something, but the only time I hear anything about the supporters trust is making comments in things such as this

The Trust is a real hit and miss organisation.

On this issue they look complete idiots but their opposition to the rebrand was well managed.

Personally I think you have hit the problem literally on the head because the head of the Trust is an attention seeker and any issues are really secondary.

That statement will change nothing like there " we want dialogue over the rebrand ". Statement which was repeated twenty times, then they would release minutes of meetings blacked out or with only tan know that answer to a question :laughing6:

Obviously if someone from the Trust wishes to answer then that's fine.

However my understanding is the Supporters Club is literally there to 'Support' the club whilst the 'Trust' has the interests of the supporters as its core value.

They usually bang on about any member of the Trust being a proxy share holder as the Trust holds shares and any member of the Trust is signed up to 1 share of the Trust. The logic sort of works but of course any voting rights are in the hands of the Trust leadership.

In principle the Supporters Trust is a very good idea and we saw it work best in the opposition to the rebrand. But the leadership do wield all lot of power and because so few vote in membership re-elections the Trust Board is not totally reflective of the fan base as a whole only a reflection on those who actually voted.

Of course the Trust Board can't be held responsible for that and if Mr Hartley win's the most votes then he quite rightly leads the organisation, although its an old adage that the Supporters Trust has failed badly to recruit in numbers over the years it has been in existence.

I don't think the Trust has made us look like berks more likely that Tim Hartley has made himself look a berk. Whatever the reasons behind the rebranding of "The Football League", and in my opinion it's money, it has absolutely nothing to do with "Insulting" a handful of clubs whose geographical locations place them outside the national borders of the competitions home nation. This type of situation happens throughout the football world and not just in the UK so who really cares.

In my opinion Tim Hartley looks like a man with a really bad case of "Napoleon Syndrome" and perhaps he should consider buying himself some platform shoes.

The world may look a completely different place from a few inches higher Tim.
