" UPDATED RE: POPPY SACKING "

UPDATED 3.15PM 10TH NOVEMBER 2015

Restaurant statement:

“In the interest of public health and food hygiene, all our chefs are asked to wear suitable clothing, as detailed in our employee handbook.
Prior to Sunday 8th November, the employee requested to the acting head chef to wear a different apron. He explained that he cannot authorise this and the employee was told to get authorisation from members of management.
On Sunday 8th November, the employee turned up to work wearing a different apron. Our acting head chef reiterated that he had to get authorisation to wear it, at which point the employee walked out of work. It has been brought to our attention that the employee is claiming that he has been dismissed and we refused to let him wear the apron due to the fact that it was patterned with poppies. We utterly refute this allegation; in fact our acting head chef was wearing a poppy himself on his chefs jacket that day.
As employers, we fully respect our employees wishes and beliefs, especially on such an important day as Remembrance Sunday. However to reiterate, authorisation for different uniform needs to be approved by management.
As far as we are concerned, the employee is still employed by the company and we are expecting him to carry on his duties.“

I know this is not football related but it's disgusting none the less. My nephew is a chef and he went to work the other night and put his apron on displaying Poppy's. He got sacked for it.

My Nephew replies to questions

You want the facts, here is the facts,I bought thay apron to to honour those lost in past conflicts,it wasn't ti glorify anything or provoke anything,it was to show my respect for friends who we have lost in conflict, for my grandfather who masterminded an escape from nazi concentration camp and my uncle who lost his friends and nearly lost his life several times, and for rhe other brothers and sisters lost in arms, the guys that gave there lives me people like me and your when they had no right to,what happened yesterday disrespected everything these brave people gave their lives for,I stand by what I belive weather right or wrong,if these small amount of people don't like us remembeing all the millions or soldiers and millions more civilians who paid rhe ultimate sacrafice, then theb that's nnot our issue, we are proud of out troops and should never forget what happened,I was told I wjll not wear that apron, why I asked? Don't break any health and safety laws?their response was simple,it may provoke an attack and it may offer rhe owner,if any 1 is going to get targeted it's thoses in the streets, not in a kitchen

They should be ashamed of themselves boycott them

That's disgraceful. I can understand them not wanting staff out front not wearing an apron like that, but to sack a chef, who the public will probably never see,is ridiculous. I hope a lot of people hear this and boycott the place,it's a pity your interview isn't going out on Wednesday, which is Armistice Day.

Any reviews wont stay on as it is a misuse of the Tripadvisor site as it is only for people who go there.

Try this instead @Baysidebrass on twitter but be certain of the full facts before you inadvertently slander someone.

This is an utter disgrace - NO EXCUSES.

Should have been proud of having a member of staff who feels and acts to remember / respect our fallen Boys and Girls.

In the picture, you maybe EX - MOD with the jersey crest.

Hit them where it hurts - in their takings. should get it on TV (ITV of course, as BBC is full of these types of forward thinking staff???)

Good on ya mate. I cannot understand why any decent person would disrespect the Glorious dead.( UK, all Commonwealth and allied service men including Merchant Navy) who gave their lives for the freedoms that some now take to extremes.

From what I hear, there are lots of these type of people around.

God bless all the Glorious dead.

This is mental

If it was a guy who had a apron on with anything religious on it who got sacked the media would be all over it like a bad rash with the old race card chestnut.

The old saying when it suits

Absolutely dreadful, and I'm what most of you would consider to be a 'leftie'. I don't have the knowledge to link this to facebook, but if someone can, this will spread very quickly, and will definitely make this place regret their foolish decision.

umm...can i just say; no one has said WHY he was sacked.

this guy works in the food service industry, now in a hygeinic environment certain clothin/materials can't be worn because of how they react to things such as outside dust etc. so maybe....
- maybe this material wasnt permitted?
- maybe NO non-uniform aprons are permitted?
- maybe this person has it in his contract that he will only wear a full white apron with no pattern?
- maybe the owner is a pacifist and doesnt tolerate anything that celebrates or glorifies conflict? (thd maybe this was also in the lads contract?)

im not saying any of these are true, it could be that this owner genuinely is so worried about all these propaganda stories about muslims being offended by poppys that he has thoughtlessly sacked the lad? none of us know (apart from the lad himself and his relative who posted here). So maybe we could establish the facts before starting a hate campaign against a company that, for all we know, has a no-nylon-in-the-kitchen rule? just a thought guys
