Ben Turner is yet to return to training and continues to suffer from a lateral knee injury.

Former Arsenal man Semi Ajayi joined AFC Wimbledon on a short term loan during the week, Ajayi had made regular appearances on the Cardiff bench. David Marshall will serve the last game of his supension s Simon Moore will remain between the sticks.

Brighton
Murphy will start his three-match suspension this weekend after having an appeal against his sending off against Bolton rejected by the Football Association. Hemed and Bruno are expected to feature after recent injuries, but Brighton will be without Kazenga LuaLua.

Brighton and Hove Albion

Jamie Murphy may miss the game through suspension but that very much depends on what the FA decide to do with his appeal. Chris Hughton is confident that Bruno will be fit in time to face Cardiff while dangerous winger Kazenga Lua Lua is sidelined for a few weeks due to a groin injury.

The Opposition

Brighton and Hove Albion Football Club is an English football club based in the coastal city of Brighton & Hove, East Sussex. It is often referred to just as Brighton. They currently play in the Football League Championship, the second tier of the English football league system, hosting games at the 30,750-capacity Falmer Stadium, known for commercial purposes as the American Express Community Stadium, or simply the Amex.

The team is nicknamed the "Seagulls" or "Albion". The team has historically played in blue and white stripes, though this changed to all white briefly in the 1970s and again to plain blue during the club's most successful spell in the 1980s. Crystal Palace is considered the club's main rival, although the grounds are 40 miles apart.

Founded in 1901, Brighton played their early professional football in the Southern League before being elected to the Football League in 1920. The club enjoyed greatest prominence between 1979 and 1983 when they played in the First Division and reached the 1983 FA Cup Final, losing to Manchester United after a replay. They were relegated from the top division in the same season. Mismanagement brought Brighton close to relegation from the Football League to the Conference which they narrowly avoided in 1997 and 1998. A boardroom takeover saved Brighton from liquidation, and following successive promotions they returned to the second tier of English football in 2002 and have played in the second and third tiers ever since.

Cardiff City boss Russell Slade returns to the scene of his great footballing escape as the Bluebirds look to storm the Amex

29 SEP 2015

BY TERRY PHILLIPS

A few short years ago, the Bluebirds boss kept Brighton in League One against all the odds, now he returns hoping to leave them empty-handed

Slade left the south coast only nine months after being appointed.

Russell Slade returns to the city where he achieved his greatest managerial triumph when he takes Cardiff City to Brighton on Saturday.

The Bluebirds boss is still revered by many Seagulls’ fans after overseeing an astonishing great escape from League One relegation.

Brighton were on the brink of the trapdoor when Slade took over in March 2009 and few, if anybody, believed there was any way out.

But Slade led the charge as Brighton shot up the table and finished with a flourish, earning 16 points from a possible 21 over their last seven fixtures to stay up.

Nicky Forest’s winner in a 1-0 victory against Stockport County at their old Withdean Stadium on the final day of the season made Brighton safe – and home fans lifted Slade above their shoulders in triumph.

His hat was pinched, but Slade didn’t have a care as he enjoyed the moment and Andy Naylor, Brighton Argus football journalist, said: “They were doomed, nailed on to go down when Slade came in.

“I still can’t work out how he did that. It was a phenomenal achievement, a ridiculous transformation.

“He was chaired off the pitch. Keeping Brighton up made Russell Slade a hero in the eyes of Brighton fans. He was literally a hero.

“It’s hard to imagine where Brighton would have been now had Slade been unable to mastermind the great escape.”

Slade was twice voted League One manager of the year, when he was in charge of Orient (2013-14) and Yeovil (2006-07), but keeping Brighton up made him the pride of Sussex.

Today, almost six years after Brighton avoided the drop, they are Championship leaders with Chris Hughton in charge and their final fixture before the international break is against Slade’s fifth-placed Cardiff at the Amex Stadium.

Victory, or even a draw, for the Bluebirds would send a message that Cardiff are a team making progress and they cannot be counted out.

City impressed against Charlton on Saturday and they will have to be even better to stop the Brighton title charge.

Slade left the south coast only nine months after being appointed.

He will, though, take his Cardiff team to the Amex with confidence, particularly after their hard-fought 2-1 win against Charlton.

Scott Malone congratulates Sean Morrison on giving Cardiff City the lead against Charlton
More: Can Bluebirds sustain challenge and should Bruno Manga come in?

Brighton have impressed, but they are far from a dominant force running away at the top. All six of their league wins have been by one goal and they have been fortunate to hang on to the three points at times.

Kazunga Lua Lua, who has scored four goals this season, looks certain to miss the match because of injury, while Israeli hitman Tomer Hemed is doubtful with a strain.

I'm going for a 2-0 Brighton win, but I think they will still finish below us at the end of the season. I don't think their current good form will last a lot longer, and I reckon they will end up below half way next May. Hopefully, their good run will end on Saturday, although I have a feeling home advantage will help them this weekend.

" CARDIFF CITY FANS TRAVELLING AWAY & THEIR BEHAVIOUR "

So far this season we have had only one arrest from our home and away games :thumbright: :ayatollah:

Our club and Safety Officers have met Brighton Police regarding this Saturday's game at 3pm.

It's the first time in years that we have played away at Brighton on a Saturday afternoon and the local police because of our past reputation had doubts about the day, time,Rvs,restrictions on our numbers and whether we should be able to drink in their Town Centre.

Our Club,Safety officer and Police reassured them of our arrest record over the last 5 years and that' it's actually one of the best in the Football League :ayatollah:

Another worry was that our fans will come to the ground and away from the ground on the same public transport as Brighton fans, this does worry Brighton Police, but they have been reassured that our fan base now is virtually trouble free :ayatollah:

So just a reminder that any trouble Saturday could ruin the rest of the seasons away games for the fans who travel week in week out.

Over 1,200 Cardiff Fans are travelling to Brighton, with NO RESTRICTIONS AT ALL /LETS KEEP IT THAT WAY :thumbright: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Saturday’s opponents Brighton are among the exceptions. At Christmas 2012, the Seagulls had acquired something of a reputation as draw specialists with ten stalemates, in addition to the eight wins they’d also tucked under their belts, with Gus Poyet at the helm.

At around about the halfway point of the season, they had 34 points and were just outside of the play-off spots in eighth. It took a tremendous run-in which saw Albion lose only twice in their last 16 games for them to book their final standing of fourth.

Under the radar

But the moral of Brighton’s story is that, while it isn’t always the case that the six teams at the top at Christmas will always make up the top six in the final analysis, it’s been pretty much unheard of in recent times for a team to sneak right under the radar, having been miles from the top of the pile for much of the season, before landing a place among that prized final half dozen.

Brighton & Hove Albion’s clash with fellow promotion hopefuls Cardiff City at the Amex this Saturday, as the Seagulls look to extend their record unbeaten start to a season to ten games.

The draw at Bolton meant Albion made it a club record nine games unbeaten at the start of a season, and Chris Hughton's side will be looking to extend their excellent start with a positive result against the Bluebirds this Saturday.

The Seagulls also know that only maximum points will be enough keep them top of the Championship table as Middlesbrough closed the gap to just a solitary point after beating Leeds United 3-0 on Sunday.

Brighton & Hove Albion Vs Cardiff City: Match Preview

15/09/30

by Jamie Kemble

Brighton & Hove Albion Vs Cardiff City: Match Preview

Date and Time: Saturday 3rd October (15.00)

Venue: AMEX Community Stadium

Referee: Charles Breakspear

The Bluebirds returned to winning ways last weekend against a struggling Charlton Athletic but this weeks fixture brings a much sterner test as Russell Slade and his men prepare to face table-topping Brighton. The Seagulls are yet to lose a game in the Sky Bet Championship as they continue to lead the way.

There is no doubt that Cardiff face a very difficult task this weekend as they travel to the AMEX stadium. Brighton are the only unbeaten team in the Championship and Chris Hughton’s men are showing little sign of slipping up at the top. The Seagulls are a point clear of second placed Boro and a safe six points clear of third placed Reading.

Despite winning two thirds of their games, Brighton have suffered a minor slip-up in recent games, drawing their last two. The Seagulls were somewhat disappointing in their last outting when they came away from Bolton with a 2-2 draw. A late Gary Madine goal earned Bolton the point after Murphy was involved in a harsh sending off for Brighton.

Jamie Murphy was sent off with fifteen minutes remaining at the Macron Stadium when he quite literally slipped into a mis-timed challenge on Neil Danns. Brighton have stated that they will appeal the red card in the hope that Murphy’s three match ban will be rescinded or reduced. A decision should be made before the weekends fixture.

The Sussex side did well to escape relegation last year, slumping to an unimpressive twentieth place finish. Despite last seasons misery, Chris Hughton seems to have worked wonders over the summer and with help from Tomer Hemed (5) and Lua Lua’s (4) goals, the Seagulls find themselves setting the benchmark for the rest of the Championship.

Following two losses, Cardiff returned to winning ways last weekend with a 2-1 win against Guy Luzon’s Charlton Athletic. The South-Wales side went behind early in the second half but showed resilience to come back and win the game through Joe Mason and Sean Morrison’s goals.

Cardiff have moved down from fifth to sixth during the week following Birmingham’s win over Brentford but if Cardiff can somehow take a win from the AMEX then they could find themselves as high as third with positions 3-8 already separated by just goal difference.

Russell Slade returns to his former hunting ground on Saturday and he is liked by Brighton fans for his remarkable achievement as Brighton manager in 2009. Slade was appointed boss in March with Brighton all but certainly going down but Slade steered them clear of trouble and Brighton remained in League One.

' Cardiff City duo Alex Revell and Craig Noone prepare to face former club at Amex Stadium '

1 OCT 2015

BY TERRY PHILLIPS

Striker Revell was with the Seagulls for two years from 2006 while Noone was signed from Brighton by former City manager Malky Mackay

Alex Revell and Craig Noone both return to face one of their former clubs when Cardiff City take on Championship leaders Brighton at the Amex Stadium in Sussex on Saturday.

Striker Revell was with the Seagulls for two years from 2006 and didn’t play for Brighton at their new home, but he scored there for Rotherham in a 1-1 draw last season.

Noone was signed from Brighton by former City manager Malky Mackay, who spent more then £1m on the winger after having a number of earlier offers rejected.

Scouser Noone said after one Mackay offer was turned down: “When I heard that I had to pinch myself that I am worth over a million pounds.

“That is a bit of a dream. To be worth over a million and the chairman not wanting to sell shows how much they want me here and how much I am liked here.

“We are both on the same sort of level (Albion and Cardiff), wanting the same things, but it’s just a matter of timing when we do it.

“Cardiff might push for it now but, we are hoping to get into the play-offs but we still need to prove things in this league.”

Brighton manager Gus Poyet badly wanted to keep Noone, but he made the switch more than three years ago.

He had scored 13 goals in more than 100 appearances, while Noone, now under contract with Cardiff until 2018, has fired 13 goals in just over 100 matches for the Bluebirds.

Brighton spent £8,000 on signing Revell from Ryman League Braintree during 2006 and he made 71 appearances, scoring 18 goals in the days before Russell Slade became the club’s manager in 2009.

He scored a first professional hat-trick for Brighton against Bournemouth at the Withdean, but he moved on to Southend in 2008 and has since played for Swindon, Wycombe, Orient, where he played under Slade, Rotherham and Cardiff.

Transfer news: Cardiff City defender Semi Ajayi joins AFC Wimbledon on month-long loan

Now Revell, whose Cardiff contract runs until 2017, is on his way back to Brighton and, like Noone, looks certain to be in the matchday squad.
