" CARDIFF CITYS MANAGERS / HOW I'VE RATED THEM "

' CCFC MANAGERS SINCE 1972 '

I Will renewing my season ticket for next season 2016-17 no matter how Cardiff end this current season and that will mean I have had a season ticket for 44 Consecutive seasons as of next season.

' Malky Mackay ' :thumbright: is my all time favourite manager in my opinion. First season with hardly any money took us to the play-off semi-finals and took us to Wembley to play Liverpool who I have disliked since I was a kid in a Cardiff school where everyone in them days supported Liverpool or Leeds,I was the only one supporting Cardiff,So Ive always had a dislike for both clubs.
My dream was to play Liverpool on the big stage and we did in a Cup Final and we drew 2-2 and only lost on penalties. Ive never felt so proud and happy, plus walking out of the stadium my daughter Annaise said to me,we never really lost did we Daddy as we drew and that brought a smile to my face. Leaving Wembley happy, yet without a trophy.

Then Malky the following season took us up to the Premier League and even though we were Red some how you could relate to Malkys passion that ran through his team, I would call them Malky's Trojans and thats prob the only thing that kept me going as the Red was killing me. First manager in 51 years to take us up to the Premier League and the only one to win the Championship, but not only win it,win it easily.

Once in the Premier League never in the bottom 3.

My 2nd is Eddie May :thumbright: . Loved every minute of his reign, fans were united as one and we would go to the matches looking forward to every game and the atmosphere was second to none.
Plus Eddie May built a team around our local lads, that means a lot.

My 3rd choices are :thumbright: Jimmy Scoular,Frank Burrows & Len Ashursts I had some of my best times following City under these managers.

Reading this post has made me realise how lucky I've been since supporting City. Eddie May was the manager when I first went in 92. What a way that ended. Then most recent Malky. Great manager with great passion. Must say tho for the enjoyment I felt that first season my favourite was Eddie May. Football was different during Malkys reign and so were Cardiff fans.

Lennie Lawrence was a good manager for us just what we needed at that particular time to get us promoted to Division 1 with him having experience in a abundance and we played some great football under him when we got promoted.

Dave Jones was also good but he underachieved here if he hadn't have got us to the FA cup final I think he would've gone as our league performances was not great but he improved with us flirting in the play offs and when it mattered he couldn't get us over the line he didn't put mental strength into the team but I will not forget we did play some fantastic football at times but shit defensively.

Malky Mackay He def overachieved in his first season as you said got us to the play offs and Carling cup final on a shoe string that will never be forgotten then got backed financially the nest season we were a efficient side with every player knowing what they were doing and defensively very good and got promoted and in the Prem he shot himself in the foot big time unfortunately with poor transfers and we were a negative side and still lose games we should have had a more of a go at teams and of course the racist texts but he I will never forget they were good times which I hope come around again very soon.

Ole Gunnar Solksjaer I was excited when he was appointed how disappointing he turned out to be tinkering the side all the time tactically all over the place bought players and didn't use them made us a gutless side with a losing mentality I was relieved he was gone because he was going to take us down even more.

Russell Slade I was aware of what he had done at Orient before he came got them to within a inch of promotion on freebies and that is an achievement in itself and I think he was the right man for us and deserves a chance at Championship level so first thing he had to do was clean up Ole's mess while keeping us stable which he has done and now this is his season to shine I really hope he can be successful and can push us on and not just keeping us stable. :thumbright: :sladein: :ayatollah:

Ryan,
That's why I gave Lennie a 7 and even though I never liked DJ,I still gave him a 7 for his Wembley appearance etc,but for me after 6 years, he was a nearly man.

Ole, great man as a player and person, but awful manager.

Slade, Hmmm? Jury still out

Interesting post for the best football, top 3 for me

Jimmy Andrews
Jimmy Scoular
Eddie May

but although the football was not always great it was Malkie MacKay was the one who got us up to the Premier League

Currently you put him on a 5 but I wonder where Russell Slade will be when he eventually leaves the job

I definitely wouldn't say Malky wad our best ever manager yes he took us to the prem but threw money away for fun and all the racism stuff brought out against him aswell I wouldn't rate him our best manager by a long shot if he was given nothing to spend like Dave Jones we would of been like Wigan and got relegated under him I feel Dave Jones worked wonders with very little for us he never took us to the prem no but got us to be competitive while selling our best players and replacing them with free transfers mainly which can't of been an easy ask which is why I rate Dave our best manager even though him selling McCormack really irritated me especially that cheap

I will always say Malky was for me and he proved he could do it with No money in his first season in charge :thumbright: and Tan for me tried and in some ways ruined him and never let him complete the job he started,I would loved to have seen where we were under Malky at the end of the Prem season?

As I've said previously a 7 for DJ as we did okay some good football,a nearly man after 6 years of his arrogance, that was enough for me.

I have not read all the posts and I understand everyone has to have an opinion, but for sure Malky was the most supported and followed manager we have had.
I have watched this club since 1960 and although there were some great times watching the likes of Toshack and Brian Jones playing us to the top end of of the league only to sell our best players and fall away from our chance of promotion, believe me the reign under Malky was special and no matter what he did or what happens in the future this was our special time!
Forget all the crap and remember where we were and what he did. Premiership managers have spent millions and got nowhere or at best 4th and rejoice in champions leagues but let me tell you our promotion year was our best ever and that is in the history books. I am happy for anyone to beat it and will follow as long as my health allows me but after 55 years I am happy to have been part of that time

Jimmy Scoular was the best , anyone who remembers the cup run where we got to the smi finals against SV Hamburg in the cup winners cup! Don Murray, Peter King , Rnnie Bird , Toshack and Brian Clark . I can't remember who scored a ha trick but he ran across to Scoular to get his 5 quid bonus because he knew Scoular wouldn't give it after the game! If Dave Jones was a nearly man then Scoular was as well (except for the Welsh cup) but both those managers gave the fans everything to shout about without a bloody drum in sight. We played Bangor City in the Welsh cup and there were about 50 people in the whole ground but what an atmosphere! :sladeout:

Other than that, pretty fair, although personally I would rate Eddie May as a better £ for £ manager than Malky, who was a close second on the footballing front!

Jimmy Andrews was my all-time favourite, and 75/76 my favourite season. Pure sentiment, really. Our family moved up to Cardiff early in '76, and I caught the run-in for promotion from division 3. They were great days. Got a lot of time for Richie Morgan, too. At the time I was working in Sharpe & Fisher, off Collingdon Road in the Docks ,and a few of the lads there were City fans. Richie got a lot of stick, being compared to Toshack, who was at Swansea at the same time. Looking back, though, Richie's record stands up well. Good bloke, too. One of us. :bluebird:
