' IT IS ALARMING "

I know this subject has been spoken about a number of times but the way it is developing is worrying.

Swansea City opened up a development centre in Heath/Cardiff a couple of months ago.

There are now approximately 100 children from Cardiff and its surrounding areas in the centre which are split into 5 different age groups with around 20 children in each age bracket.

The kids must purchase the kit from Swansea and now they have been asked to purchase a training top (jumper) from Swansea for the winter training.

Each child pays £90 per term, 3 terms per season, to train in Heath with Swansea.

The coaches are from Cardiff and are ex-Cardiff City coaches.

The training sessions have been changed from a Wednesday to a Saturday afternoon.

I have never heard of clubs of any standard or any age training on a Saturday afternoon before, has anyone else ever heard of this happening anywhere ?

Carl, I (genuinely) spoke to a guy on Tuesday who had a 'promising' son at Cardiff's Academy

At the start of the Summer he was released without real explanation, along with many others and (in this case I don't blame him) was snapped up by the Swansea Academy

At the start of this season, the father was contacted by the Cardiff Academy and they asked "Is your boy coming back?"

It seems the left hand and the right hand are increasingly detached at the Cardiff City Academy and despite what Ken Choo said, Premier League or not, Swansea have stolen a march on Cardiff that is going to take some pulling back!

There is really no need to keep worring about Swansea so they are having it good at the moment like they did in the Toshack days, it's not like Cardiff hasn't taken advantage in their back garden when we were on the up in the past. We just have to take a back seat for a while, things go round in circles and we as a club will have our time again. South Wales has a big enough population etc for both clubs to be at the top level and they could have all the academy's in the world but they can only field so many players.

2 things stand out the cost to the parents sounds more like money making excersise by the swans! and how can they expect kids to play school football in morning,( bet all play for their schools) then train in afternoon? being cinical sat pm its to stop them supporting city as well? :o

I agree with you BB. It cannot be denied that Swansea's star is shining ATM and it seems like we can't do right for wrong.

However, there was a time when Leeds, Bolton, Middlesbrough, Fulham and Blackburn (ex-Premiership Champions) looked like nailed on PL clubs who stay there forever.

One day Swansea's luck will run out (by f**k they have had some luck  ) and that day is probably not that far away. If they follow our lead (highly likely) then more than 50% of their support will disappear overnight and they will be playing in front of crowds which will be well less than 10,000.

They will face cost cutting which will be far deeper than anything we have done and as they do-not have a billionaire owner as a safety net. All these school's will be history.

In the meantime if Swansea are picking up our discards then good luck to them. It's nothing new and we have done the same to them and not so long ago Bristol Rovers/City were also at it.

I wouldn't even worry about it.

The likelihood of anyone getting into the first team are extremely slim.

The main worry is that the Club appear yet again to be unable to run anything correctly :digging2:

It's sad but our club has never cared about youth development bar a small period under SH

Genuine question, in what way is it likely the jacks will "follow our lead" ??

Cardiff City have just scrapped their development centres throughout South Wales to concentrate on their academy only. Most if not all boys have been released by the club, and have been asked to find new clubs :bluebird:

Shouldn't be allowed to do this. We better hope we go back up some time soon. :bluebird:

Carl - seriously nothing to be alarmed about

They are development centres, not an academy.

I know a few parents who have put there kids through it and it is nothing to write home about.

Even if a youngster should be any good they will get looked at by an academy

See it for what, do the sums and you get your answer - A cash cow for the club

Why is it alarming ? Swansea aren't even your rivals. Are Bristol city operating in the cardiff catchment area ? That's what you guys should be concentrating on, not the Mighty Swans.

thats my view as ive pointed out on previous occasions with this subject! not intersted in developing players as surely any kid if any good goes strait to academy, leaving others to get coaching leading to what how to kick ball? ?

Agreed - too many people worrying about things that they don't need to worry about. I can assure you I know a young lad mid teens that has been released by a premier league club that was wanted by arsenal - won't go into to to much detail but if Swansea were so hot on recruitment they would have picked him up.

All he is doing is playing local football now

People are worrying about this now the proof will be in five to seven years when you see how many make it.

I would be interested in Swansea and Cardiff release list from their championship seasons a few years ago and see how many of those have made it big time - I suggeSt none ?

Totally missed the point - come back in five years with where he is then

Go back five years who was released by Cardiff and Swansea from the academy then and where are they now - that will give you the answer ?
