Who are our real rivals?

Bristol or The jacks? i know it depends upon the occasion and circumstances in which we are playing each other and whether the teams are leagues apart etc but personally I would say Bristol City are our biggest arch rivals. Yes Swansea are too but not anything like Bristol! Just my opinion though. Can't wait for the Severn side Derby

I think the older Cardiff mob look more towards the worzels as our main rivals, and the younger Cardiff fans look towards the jacks as being our main rivals. For me it alternates between both. Currently I see the worzels as our main rivals. But If we were all in the same league, then I'd have to say the jacks would shade it as our main rivals from a personal point of veiw

Bristol City for me. Perhaps it's a generational thing, as I'm 57. Grew up with the worzels as our rivals. Swansea came later, though they may be our main rivals for younger fans, or for those who live in Neath Port Talbot, or even further west. Swansea only have us. The Swansea rivalry is massively hyped by the Welsh media, (who don't have much to report otherwise), whereas the worzel rivalry is just there. No need to do anything.

The team that are our rivals for promotion as that's only rivalry that counts!

Bristol City for me real hatred in 70s 80s with the chanting about Aberfan etc.The jacks have created the rivalry more to do with being obsessed with us look at this forum as proof

The Jacks thing for me is a bit weird and recent. In the early 80's cwnty and the Jacks were about the same, cheeky little bleeders, upstarts but Welsh and somehow not the same as the Worzels.....

I get the jacks view on us, its the same as Wales view on England,100% rivals but that view is not reciprocated.
If you asked an engerland fan who their rivals were they would n't say Wales or even Scotland, but germany (IMO) doubt the germans would say the same thing though......

Had a few run ins at Eastville and Ashton gate but nothing beats Swansea/Cardiff and we all know it whatever age

I'm 46 and started supporting City in 79, for me it's the Jacks. Our very own Toshack taking them to the old Division 1 was a bitter pill to swallow. Don't really remember us playing the wurzels much, until the late 80s. They were in the old Division 1, then got relegated in successive seasons to Division 4. The first match I recall us playing the wurzels, was when Wimbleton played for them and stuffed us 3-0 at Ninian Park. We played the Jacks quite regularly during those years, that's why it's the jacks for me.

Any of you saying Bristol are just kidding yourselves. Take this forum for example, there are Swansea related threads all the time and still haven't seen a bristol one. Will you get a 33,000 capacity when you play Bristol at home ? Of course you won't, but if you were to play Swansea in the FA cup this season 33,000 would be there, no problem. The ones who say Bristol are just trying hide the pain of seeing Swansea do so well.

Well looking at the current Championship table I'd say it would have to be Bristol

Not that I recall. Used to play teams like Hereford & Shrewsbury though, as well as yourselves. In those days I never considered Swansea to be serious rivals as they were usually playing in Div 4, and Bristol City were the team most likely to beat us. Never particularly disliked any of the welsh sides, probably stems from my early days of following City when Swansea, Wrexham & Newport did'nt really provide us with much more opposition than the likes of Merthyr and Barry. Midweek Welsh Cup games were usually a matter of how many we would win by, and how many goals Toshack would score. Bristol matches were more a matter of would we get anything at all out of the game, and quite often the answer was no.

Paranoia I'm not Roathy never been to Australia. I have noticed though when some on here are losing the argument they start calling people Roathy, he really does have a hold over you guys doesn't he.

Similar distance away from us to Swansea, an English club as well, and traditionally a club that has been of a similar size to us. Swansea can also be considered a big rival, but for a lot of us not as much as the Bristol clubs, City in particular.

In 2010 you played bristol city in the fa cup at ccs and only 6731 turned up to watch, so I think it's fair to say that cardiff fans who claim bristol is cardiff's main rivals are in a small minority.

Don't know the answer to either question, but if I had to guess I would say the answer would be no to both.

If you want to pick up on one particular match, it may be worth checking the games I was discussing earlier. I've watched Cardiff v Swansea on a Tuesday or Wednesday night when Cardiff were a strong 2nd division side, and Ninian Park while not deserted, was barely a quarter full. Can't remember the exact figures, around 7,000 I believe, and likewise at around the 5same time saw Wrexham there in front of around 5,000. Neither team was a particularly big draw for City fans in those days, especially when compared to the likes of Sheff Utd, Leicester, Bristol City, who we played frequently in the old Div 2.

And if I remember right the FAW premier final at ninian park when Sam was there about 6-7 thousand and the skiprats had free transport I think paid by Sam

80's would be Pompey, Cewnty and the Worzels, 90's onwards Jerks, Plymouth possibly QPR for me. All I remember about the 70's is boarded up houses/shops along Tudor Road on a Saturday afternoon. Some older mates have told me that we had a bit of rivalry with Wolves in the 70's?
