Fabio love-in

Mon Sep 14, 2015 7:49 am

I'm really excited about our start to the season, but the Hudds game confirmed my suspicions about Fabio' s defending. He's a good passer and great going forward, but from the whistle Scannell beat him regularly. Malone was also exposed, but dealt well with Scannell second half. In the second half their only real threat came (surprise, surprise) down the left from sub Carayol. Imagine what players of class like Downing and Russell will do to him. He isn't tight enough in his marking and loses concentration too often. I know these boards are a Fabio love-in, but Peltier is far more sound defensively.

His passing is second to none and the space he finds is brilliant. He does have a few weak spots but over all if pick fabio neday.

Me too. We are not exactly exciting to watch at the moment, but you always get the feeling that Fabio is the player who can generate a bit of excitement, and one of the players who can get us all out of our seats ( until the stewards tell us to sit down).

Against better teams he'll be destroyed. He's better on the left simply because Ralls covers for him defensively.

He one every header against their winger, and although sometimes out of position he is good enough to get there and stop the attack.

He cannot defend. Simple as. Marking the winger is clearly alien to him. It amazes me that his fan club members cannot see this. Or maybe they just don't want to admit it.

To be fair he has played against better teams such as Arsenal (scored as well),Barcelona, Mexico, and quite a few others. Slade is not the only manager who has thought he was worth a crack, Fergusson and a few others agreed. He has his weaknesses but is still one of our more exciting players who is always looking to make something happen.

oh, well if he scored against arsenal he must be the best defender we have :laughing5:

This season Fabio at left back turns draw into wins......

I am not sure if it was by design but Fabio gives us more attacking intent on the left with a central midfielder in Ralls covering. On the right we have the more defensively minded and phyically equiped Peltier covering for the far more attack minded pilkington. It works.....Although fabio on the right didn't

it didnt work so much that.....

He was terrible when he switched to the right. I can see Connolly there tomorrow

Re: Fabio love-in

It's a double edged sword - I agree Peltier is better at defending but he is shocking going forward. Fabio is not as good at defending but offers a LOT more in attack. We will concede more but score more with Fabio.

I thought he done quite well against Scannel,I noticed a marked difference when Malone came on,Scannel had Malone beat for pace everytime. Fabio was far better.

Re: Fabio love-in

Fabio did what was needed. He switched from left back to right, when Peltier got kicked out of the game. We won 2-0! Relax, and take one game at a time :ayatollah: :bluescarf: :bluebird:

I'm not a member of the "Fabio Fan Club" but I have changed my opinion lately.

I have been worried about him previously defensively and with Malone starting the season so well I really wondered whether Fabio would get a game.

However, credit where it's due, he's played really well since coming back into the side.

One thing that Fabio does give us is pace and whilst this side has done really well so far, pace is the one thing we're lacking. Of the players that took part only Ameobi and Fabio can be described as pacey and therefore it is probably worth taking a risk defensively to add some pace.

He's not the complete package but he's worth his place on current form in my opinion.

f**k me, here we go again with all the tossers looking to Fabio as a scapegoat.

How many of you have played for Brazil or in a Champions League final for Man Utd.

If you watch from where I do you certainly can't say that Malone is a better defender. He's nowhere near as quick as Fabio and this season he's been spending most of his game stood in the opposition half and certainly not in a sound defensive position.

As for Ralls he doesn't offer Fabio any cover. Ralls is all over the shop and often not playing on the left of midfield. That's not his fault but down to the fact that he's not a wide player, can't go past people with pace and therefore prefers to drift inside a lot.

Get real!

Er....It's great we're doing well, but he's a flawed fullback. I can't believe people can't see it. Why do teams always play down his side?Downing and others will totally expose his weaknesses.

well if your going to go down that route, how many of us have played professional football at all? and in that case none of us can have an opinion on anything

Absolutely. Fabio even looked exposed against Wimbledon because he didn't have Ralls in front of him. I'm hoping he moves to the bench tomorrow night - Connolly in at RB for Peltier and Bruno back in the middle. Malone at LB. Because Annis thinks he's good, lots of people on here like to jump on the bandwagon because they want to be in Annis' gang!
;)

Connolly just put in one of the best CB displays for a long while.... i hope to god he doesnt get moved out to the right.

Think it might well happen though if peltier is out.

I will give credit where its due - against Wolves he was excellent and that was easily the best I have seen him play. But he didn't look Premier League class when he was at Man Utd. Sir Alex is no mug, and he didn't pick him for the first team very often. I think that says it all.

There is a difference being picked for Man U in the Premier League and Cardiff in the Championship. Supporters seem to think as a team we lack pace, but he is one of the few players we have with a bit of pace. Don't have his stats to hand, but I believe Ferguson selected him to play over twenty times so I assume he must have seen something in him.

Us fans look for players who play with enthusiasm and passion, and this guys brings it every time he sets foot on the field.

He is doing well im still a little uncomfortable with him defensively.

Agreed, and at the moment we're winning games and keeping clean sheets but some fans still love to moan. There'll be a meltdown on here when we do eventually lose a game. ;)

The majority of footballers are right footed and therefore most teams err towards the right hand side when attacking.

Or you could take the view that as non pros we wouldn't get in the Cardiff team. By the same token the shit fullback that people describe on here wouldn't get in the Utd or Brazilian team. Fabio did though!

Yeah years ago, and was deemed not good enough after given the chance.

Same reason hes not in the premier league now

Fair play to him though he knows how to head the ball. For someone his size he got his head to the ball nearly all the time.
