FRIDAY 28TH AUGUST 2015

Updated

Cardiff City boss Russell Slade has played down speculation linking the club with former West Ham United captain Kevin Nolan.

The midfielder, 33, left the Hammers by mutual consent on Thursday following a four-year spell at Upton Park.

When asked if Nolan was close to joining Cardiff, Slade told reporters: "Not that I know of. I think Kevin Nolan is a very good player, but there are lots of very good players that have been put our way as possibilities but they have to fit in. They have to fit in with what we're trying to do both financially and from a playing side."

Cardiff are in Championship action tomorrow when they face Nottingham Forest at the City Ground.

" UPDATED "

I've just been told Kevin Nolan is out of City's price range,as I had said in previous posts.
So the rumours are wrong as far as I've been told.

" LATEST ON KEVIN NOLAN "

Betting on Kevin Nolan to Cardiff with Sky Bet is SUSPENDED

Kevin Nolan has yesterday left West Ham on mutual consent.
He was on £50,000 plus a week.

City would not be paying over £20,000 a week for him under their new budget, but he would if course cost them nothing, but a signing on fee.

A number of Championship clubs have today approached Nolan.

I have always hated him as an opposition player but I reckon he'd do more than a job here for us and would complement the squad.

Do we have an out and out leader in midfield at the moment?

Despite his age I'd give him a two year deal and make him captain!

The fact he was on 50,000 is irrelevant as he gets older he will know that he cannot continue to demand them wages or will sides pay it. If the club can make it happen with a decent sining on fee and affordable wages he would be a great edition.

Nobody likes Nolan do they? Ask yourself why that is. Hope this happens

Exactly, he gets under the skin of the opposition players and fans. We have't had a player like that for awhile!

I think we are crying out for someone like him.....oh and Fraizer Campbell!

This could be a really good signing but I'm pretty sure he can get better deals elsewhere. However, a good signing on fee, a generous promotion bonus and the chance to develop as a coach? Maybe able to tempt him. Also, Slade is well respected by players if not by some of our fans. :sladein:

No point in signing him if slade doesn't change formation and if we did sign him does that mean whitts is on his way?

annis who was the midfielder a few weeks ago that fell through ? was it Nolan ?

Make him team captain. A born leader and that is what we are missing right now.

We could get two season out of him and his experience and leadership would be magnificent for us. He is just what we need off and on the pitch.

Doubt we can pull it off but fair play for trying!

He'd be a great signing at this level.

He's a player you always hate playing against you, but who you want playing for you.

I would be happy if this is the player Slade is in talks with.

If Tan had any sense he would sanction this transfer, make him Captain and he will transform this team.

I'd love to see him celebrate as well - all time fav celebration is his chicken dance :laughing5:

Why the need to change formation? Nolan is a centre midfielder and has always played in a 442. What's the issue?

I can see him joining someone like Watford or Reading. One of the London/ close-to-London clubs that are still at a decent standard. I think he's more likely to stay in the Premier League.

This is just rubbish.

City do not need him even if he was cheap.

City need an attacking midfield and a striker.

Rumours can come true,
Plus bookies can be wrong, just because say City had enquired about Nolan or even met him, that would make them make Nolan favourite, but it still does not guarantee he will sign.
Football can change at any moment.

I've been told Nolan is way over Slades budget.

Or does he know that possibly 1 or 2 high earners be gone soon and can afford it?

Possibly Guerra. Must be on 25k+
