Cardiff City want Portuguese striker Roberto Rodrigo from top flight leaders FC Arouca -

Portuguese striker Roberto Rodrigo from top flight leaders FC Arouca - reports

Cardiff City are interested in a move for Portuguese striker Roberto Rodrigo, according to reports.

Rodrigo plays in Portugal's top tier Primeira Liga for FC Arouca and is fresh from scoring a winning goal against reigning champions Benfica on Sunday.

The goal took unfashionable Arouca to the top of the league after two games after an earlier win over Moreirense.

According to The Mirror, Cardiff are tempted to snap him up for around £500,000 but face competition from Serie A side Palermo who are said to have already seen a bid for the 26-year-old rejected.

Last season, Rodrigo scored six goals in 29 appearances.

The Bluebirds are thought to be working on bringing in as many as three new faces this week with the transfer deadline of September 1 drawing closer.

Earlier this week, Russell Slade said: "We would like to bring a couple in.

“I know where I would like to strengthen or give us different options.

“We are focused on that and hope to be able to add to the group.”

Championship promotion hopefuls Cardiff are eyeing Portuguese striker Roberto Rodrigo.
His side FC Arouca lead the Portuguese top-flight with two wins from two matches.
Rodrigo,26, scored the winning goal against Benfica on Sunday and Palermo have already had a bid rejected.
But the striker fancies a move to England and Cardiff are tempted to snap him up for around £500,000.

our record of wasting money on European strikers and then not playing them makes me nervous about signing another unknown who is potentially another bench warmer. If we are going to buy a striker, in my opinion its better to pay a bit more for a proven goal scorer at this level such as Campbell :bluebird: :bluebird:

Ha that's true, however it's better to spend £500k than £8m I guess! :ayatollah: :bluebird:

At least he's trying to bring in a striker we need.some pace for upfront we haven't got a striker that can get on Kenwynes flicks and bring the defenders out of position.

Fraizer Campbell?
Experienced and capable at this level.

Campbell every time for me. Rodrigo hasn't played much and hasn't been exactly prolific. Fraizer won't get a look in at Palace. We must go for him.

Thing is though, would Campbell come back?

He's only been gone for a season, after all.

Just watched the youtube link above and he seems okay in the air and manages to to find space, the teams he is playing against look no better than Div 3.
Without seeing what he does off the ball he does'nt seem no better than Doyle

Portuguese top flight is nothing to sniff at. Benfica would wipe us. 500k is not silly money. Those saying Campbell, be realistic with money ffs. Palace will want 6-8 million

Loan deal as he is way down the pecking order at Palace.

Hope this isn't true, now's not the time to gamble,if we are going to buy one player it has to be someone who can def do it at this level, vydra,Campbell,Gayle all better options on loan also wouldn't come with a lengthy contract which means we don't end up stuck with another player we can't give away,if we are that desperate for a striker play one of the dvp boys

Fraizer Campbell is on £30-35k a week and would cost a bit of a fee. Not to mention he probably wouldn't come back here. Why do fans want him to come back? He left us as soon as possible and we sold him for a measely £600k. We'd be buying him back for much more than that despite the fact he's not done much since.

OK if we sign this Portugese striker it's a risk that he may not adapt but the fee and wages would be lower.

7 in 12 appearances. Previously in the Championship 15 in 34 for Hull.

And do they realise the player jumped ship for a measly fee due to the previous manager? Realise that they don't want Kenwyne here on 30-40k but would take an injury prone crock on about the same? Not guaranteed 20+, admit he did well in the Champ here but name me another season bar the one with Hull where he's been guaranteed goals please?

He got 20 in 31 appearances on loan at Royal Antwerp in 2006/7 - his only other season outside the Premiership. He is clearly not a Premier League striker but when he plays below that level he definitely scores goals. Another Chopra or Earnie maybe? All academic anyway as we can't afford him.

Ok maybe not garenteed 20+ but 7 in 12 is pretty good. Imo He's the best striker we've had at the club for years and he was playing a lone role.

Jumping ship? This is what players do, your offered a bigger wage and to stay in the best league in the world and play at the highest level or go down with the sinking ship that was cardiff, it was hardly a tough choice at the time. and what'd the fee got to do with him? that was the clubs fault.
