" KENWYNE JONES "

Tue Aug 11, 2015 10:10 pm

A lot of rumours going around tonight that Kenwyne Jones has signed a new contract.

His current contract runs out at the end of this season and he's on up to £50,000 a week depending on appearances and goals.

Personally can't see this one being true though.

They said it on radio Wales too.

Wonder what the deal is ? I would still have him on 25 k a week for 3 years

Slade played down reports that Kenwyne Jones set to have new Cardiff deal but admits it's possible if he "does well"

Please no not even on reduced terms. This season it seems that we are trying to play a more entertaining, passing game. All of that is going to go out of the window and we'll start hoofing the ball up in the air all of the time looking for Jones, just like we did for the majority of last season. We will start going backwards again, this would be a bad decision. Jones should play for us now coming off the bench only if we are losing and in need of a goal or even a winner, or if we are winning and because our strikers are losing possession to easily and we need a target man up top to hold the ball, then those are the only times that he should be brought on.

Bloooooobirds.

We can still play a passing game with Jones I mean Swansea can do it with Gomis. :thumbright:

Agreed ! We have to have a goal threat and he is just that.

OK he isn't a worker but unless you look like you'll get/create a goal then strikers simply aren't worth their place. Ravelle works his socks off but surely most would rather Jones upfront ?

I will be stunned, as Jones is currently on £50,000 a week including match appearances/Bonuses and NI & TAX

In my opinion it would be pure madness and bad business by our club.

City tried all summer to offload him,but his wages were the problem.

When he's interested, like he was early on last season, he's great to have in the side. Frustratingly after January last season he just didn't seem to want to know, no surprise he was loaned out.

Wouldnt be with a tidy pay decrease if it means him guaranteeing a longer contract for himself

I would really hope so Gareth.

I know Slade likes him,but Tan wants the wages still reduced and for telling Slade in the Summer to offload him.
Football is a funny world and things change rapidly.

Jones is my adopted player so I'm really going to try here.

But Revell, Foyle, Harris, Noone and Ameobi are all faster than him, and yesterday during the later stages you could see that those around him struggled to be cohesive when he wasn't keeping up and that meant Cardiff were a player down in the final third.

With him on the pitchm you really have to play to his strengths and that's, very specifically, to use him as a lone striker and play five in midfield.

Anybody know the extent of the facial injury he seemed to have last night ?
He was trying to come off but was put back on after physios quick look. He even signaled to bench to take himself off

I thought he looked ok when he come on ,chasing down and he beat a defender for pace got a shot away only for the keeper to make a good save ,then he got the injury and didn't look right

Agree. He done more after he came on than Ravell and Doyle did in the whole game.

Re: " KENWYNE JONES "

Wed Aug 12, 2015 12:05 pm

based on last nights performance I would offer him a quarter of his current salary, his heart does not seem to really be in it either. For 50k a week we could get 2 or 3 players in that could make the difference in challenging for the play-offs, i do not believe Kenwyne will make the difference needed

Re: " KENWYNE JONES "

Wed Aug 12, 2015 12:21 pm

If we are to offer him a new deal I would say it would need to be cut by approx half of what he is on now. Clearly a good player at this level but not on 40K a week!

I'd be pretty hyped to be 30 and on £25,000 a week, let alone 50 :P

I knew someone would take it the wrong way  what I meant was is that they are about the same height roughly the same age and the same type of player and Jones looks just as good as Gomis from what I have seen of him. :thumbright:

Jones is a really good Championship level striker, and many other teams would be more than glad to have him. Offer him a 3 year contract on 20k a week, with a promotion bonus, and I'd definitely keep him.
