So the Jacks go and play them

Fri Jun 26, 2015 10:02 pm

I feel strongly about this.

Why are we not playing up at Merthyr every season? crowds of 3,500 and it lets a lot of people up the Valleys see City, plus Merthyr is a Cardiff fan base, yet the Jacks are playing up there in about 2 weeks.

City need to sort this out.

Re: So the Jacks go and play them

The jacks have an agreement now with Merthyr to coach them and have started to link up with them and bond strong links with them. The reason is to get out into the local community and schools in the area to expand their fan base around that area. They want stronger links in these valleys, they are trying like mad to eat into traditional Cardiff supporting areas with their premier league brand

Will they have good side out or development team? Just don't see thousand buying Swansea shirts in valley's no matter how hard they do premier sell! Don't see many here and according to their fans its a hot bed! All you see is pool, Chelsea, man u , ect ect and that's only in summer . other than that its osprey shirts you will see. Guess world dominance is their aim for the valleys? :thumbright:

Don't know about Merthyr but very very rarely see swans shirts around lower Rhondda, Pontypridd, Llantrisant areas.

I'm live in Merthyr and very rarely have I seen any Jack tops around here. The Jacks are obviously trying to target the youngsters with the Premier League brand by the sounds of it but I know the older generation are Cardiff and always will be. :bluebird:

Go back to West Glamorgan Jacks, Rhondda and the surrounding valleys should be Bluebird heartlands. Up to the club to put this right. :bluescarf: :ayatollah: :bluebird:

Maybe because it's more of an attraction to play against an established PL Club rather than a Club who've done themselves no favours recently .This isn't about the older generation who should loyally follow no matter what , but kids being kids like to latch onto success , why do you think are there so many Barca,Liverpool & Man U shirts worn in the valleys and Cardiff ,It's easier to follow success than failure .The longer the Swans are in the PL the greater their influence will be and that includes both East and West Wales .

Barca, Liverpool and Man utd are successful and big throughout the world. Please don't put Swans in their bracket.

I definitely wasn't doing that , the point I was making that "famous " PL players who may turn at Penydarren Park will be a bigger draw than perhaps a Cardiff City squad player. At the moment Swansea are a bigger attraction

You can put a ribbon around a turd but at the end of the day it's still a turd. Swansea are not attractive to anyone other than Swansea fans. I wouldn't cross the road to watch the jbs play.

I think you're missing the point , "floaters" become die hard fans which is exactly what Swansea are trying to capture throughout South Wales so whether you like the idea or not makes little difference to the bigger picture , Swansea are getting a foothold everywhere ,your much more likely to see a kid wearing a Swansea shirt nowadays in the valleys than a Cardiff one .Brecon , Neath , Port Talbot ? Sandfields are other example where Swansea have a strong grip A successful (in terms of numbers attending) Development centres even in the centre of Cardiff is something which wouldn't have been conceived even 3 years ago is reality, such is the speed of the clubs' progression.

We have development centres across west wales.

In reality these centres rarely produce much talent. I think for every 1000 kids 1 gets a pro contract. Seen figures somewhere but am happy to be corrected. I live outside of s Wales but have connections with Carmarthen and the valleys and Powys. The only place I've ever seen a jack shirt is Carmarthen and they are few and far between. When swanseas bubble bursts you'll be back to crowds of 10,000 before you can say dyer stole my phone.

The reason I mentioned development centres not for what the produce because that is hit and miss at best .example there's a 6 year kid playing on Tuesday at a indoor sports hall on the Rec in Roath who has talent far beyond his peers and Cardiff Swansea and believe it or not Barcelona who are more than just watching the kid is phenomenal for his age but will he make it who knows (he may not develop at all )
As you say when the bubble bursts which it obviously could as everything in life is a cycle then yes crowds will possibly drop just as you've seen last season so that is not unusual but the fact remains that kids are the future for any Club the sooner you capture their interest the better .Both Cardiff and Swansea have played far longer in the lower leagues than at the top but they've always been supported with varying numbers and those numbers started watching at the bottom end of the leagues so therefore it's logical that while Swansea are where they are at the present then the numbers following them will rise.

I live in the upper Rhondda Fawr, the only Jack tops you see are on people who also 'support' Man U , Liverpool, Chelsea etc... the Rhondda Fach, i.e. Maerdy/Ferndale etc, you don't see any...They don't actually go to watch the Jacks, though if they extend the stadium in the near future, that sadly could change for some...Cardiff supporters traditionally in the Valleys are not 'shirters', so apart from young kids, you won't see many about, whether we're successful or not.

Yet you are quite happy to watch Cardiff City play ? What a funny world we live in .The bitterness clouds so many people on this forum it is almost as amusing as what is going on with your club. The gift that keeps on giving :sladein:

Apart from the last 2 seasons I have been happy to watch Cardiff City play. I have followed them since the early 80s and been exiled since 89. My boys are both proud bluebirds and we are looking forward to the next season.

As for bitterness take a look in the mirror. Your insecurity amuses me greatly. No doubt you are one of the new breed of jacks who never visited the wretch field and supported Liverpool or Man Utd until 4 or 5 years ago.

Re: So the Jacks go and play them

Let them take the floaters, the thing about floaters is that most of them just float off again following whoever else they like that week in "the prem". I recall when we went 2 leagues above them briefly about 10 years ago, our fans thought we would pick up new fans in jack areas but I bet we hardly found any in the long term. Things are different now they are established in the premier league, but so were Bolton, Fulham, Wigan, Leeds and sheff weds to name a few. Let's not ever get as bitter as they were and many still are, they can't help it as it goes beyond football. :bluescarf:

I was at the Cardiff and vale schoolboys trials last week in Cardiff for the under 14s, and two lads, one from lisvane and one from Ely both turned up to trial from Cardiff schools in full Swansea City kits. Also in my sins class in school in Cardiff there are 3 Swansea supporters from about 30 thirteen year olds. This would never have happened ever three years ago :bluebird:

This is happening more and more Annis. The "academy" sites, which are sometimes little more than parks and the holiday workshops. No surprise to see a link with Merthyr. Probably a lot of disaffection up there with the way city have been run and with the results.
