Cardiff Airport favouring certain airlines now

Tue May 19, 2015 5:05 pm

Should never put their eggs in Flybe with them already having a history of pissing off http://www.walesonline.co.uk/business/b ... le-9280018

Another airline tells WAG owned Airport to f**k off and this is quickly becoming the biggest waste of taxpayers money in the history of the WAG

Did you read the aviation experts comments? If you did he clearly states airport has to favour airline with biggest capacity and routes! Other airline didn't have scope to increase routes or passenger numbers! So in your opinion city jet should have been favoured over flybe?

Why offer Flybe taxpayers cash to fly the same routes that's already on offer for no taxpayers cash ?

Don't know why you worry about it. Cardiff Airport will be well and truly dead soon.

The WAG have a history of this Adam. Numerous silicon chip factories in South Wales failed. What did the WDA go and do? Invest more money in another one only to see it fail. Sony has pulled loads of operations out of Pencoed as well. The WAG/WDA are a complete farce.

Before I moved to Edinburgh I was flying from South quite a lot. Rarely flew from Cardiff because always way more expensive. One of the few times I flew from Cardiff they had to space people out on the plane to balance it out!! Even flying home now every so often I fly to Bristol.

Even though I live in Cardiff I always check Easyjet and Bristol for any European flights, its sad as I would like to fly local however flights are limited and very expensive. For the sake of a 40 min drive who wouldnt go to Bristol?

I fly every week ,mostly from London to destinations worldwide. and I can tell you , Cardiff Airport is by a million miles , the worst ( so called) International airport , I have had the misfortune to depart from or arrive at.

To say its embarrassing as a boy from Cardiff is the biggest understatement ever..

It is Dirty , unorganized , old, tired, and those are the plusses, just shocking .

Really Sad . I don't see how it can recover ,when you see what they have done and are planning over in Bristol.

Only way forward is a new airport I think , but who would finance that!!

Please get it right! It's the Labour government at WAG that are doing this.

Cardiff will never attract decent routes and airlines, the landing fees are far too high compared to Bristol etc... Hesse why the fares are far more expensive.

The reason I worry about it is because as running costs continue the taxpayer will be funding it past the £100 million mark soon after the purchase and further loan figures and we weren't asked whether or not we wanted to buy the airport in the first place.

Even to this day there are deluded people on here still thinking that buying it was the best move!!!

Are you sure you mean the WDA as they haven`t existed now for about 10 years?

My point was, Bristol is so far ahead now we may see Cardiff shut or be downgraded.

In respects to the public money expenditure I agree with your concerns.

What has happened to CWL? I used to work there during the 80's and the passenger numbers were neck and neck with Bristol.

It used to be a stat all the staff used to look for every year as it was a bit if a battle.

What the hell changed up there?

Bad management basically who have pissed off many airlines with their approach. They say that if it wasn't for the British Airways Maintenance hub there then it would have closed down years ago yet the WAG thinks that they know better than others when it comes to spending our taxes in this!!!

The Sevenside Airport would have been the best option and would have been a clear signal of what the WAG wants for the future of Wales' transport. Unforunately however they spent over £1 million on an independent company to look into all the options and a couple of weeks after their result which their preferred option was the Sevenside Option the WAG turn around and buy CWL!!!! f*cking jokers!!!

Has nobody seen the fares offered by Flybe & Veuling - the problem sometimes is the negativity that seems to come with being Welsh :P

Granted there's a long way to go but the airport will always be on the back foot as many people will now always assume Bristol is cheaper without looking at the alternatives

Use it or lose it - then we'll all moan that we don't have an airport at all ........

I use Cardiff Airport, quite a bit, to travel to and from Rome, with KLM via Amsterdam. No complaints. In fact, travelling from west of Cardiff, it's very convenient. Parking close by, fast check-in. Easy transfer at Schiphol. Last went in late April. Cost £220 return, all included. Perhaps I'm lucky that I can afford it, but it's good enough for me.

This seems to be a favourite topic of the OP. Fair enough, but I suspect that his real enemy is the Labour administration in the National Assembly.

Agree that the Severnside Airport would have been better, though. Ridiculous that Cardiff and Bristol are competing against each other.

You do know that Flybe aren't classed as a 'low cost carrier' by everyone within the airline industry don't you ?

Didn't say they were - the quote was that fares are far more expensive than Bristol and my point is that the advertised fares for these 2 airlines are competitive - something that no seems to want to acknowledge

Are the plans for a proposed large airport in Newport (I believe) mothballed or shelved?

Their advertising doesn't include taxes and have a very small number of seats at the adverised rate it's only when you actually do a booking will you find the real price.

Just done an example for you. I'm thinking of going to Madrid for my birthday in June so I done Friday 19th to Sunday 21st June. Easyjet from Bristol £293.98 per person then I done flybe from Cardiff £890.53 per person!!! They are having a f*cking laugh!!!

Re: Cardiff Airport favouring certain airlines now

Fri May 22, 2015 3:24 pm

For the record I also done Vueling and it was €489 so still no competition to Bristol

They are not direct routes from Cardiff - what you're getting is a quote that includes a transfer at a different airport

Not sure what your agenda is here but at least do a like for like comparison

And be objective because I'm sure there will be many examples where the Bristol route is cheaper but there will be others where the Cardiff route will be competitive

I dont agree with you much Adam, but on this I'm fully with you! With the empty airport bus service also which costs an additional 1mill a year Micky Mouse would love to be on board!

I would expect to pay less for a non-direct flight wouldn't you then ?

Thanks mad-one. The purchase of the airport by the Welsh taxpayer had disaster written all over it from the start and just watching more and more of our taxes being ploughed into it constantly is just a prime example that welsh politicians are great in spending other people's money
