Cardiff City prepare move for highly-rated 24-year-old midfielder Sam Clucas.
Plus fellow Chestefield midfielder Sam Morsy.

BY SEAN MAKIN ⋅

Tues May 11, 2015 ⋅

Clucas is a target for Cardiff City

Bluebirds boss Russell Slade swooped for Spireites striker Eoin Doyle during the January transfer window and is set to return for Clucas.

And he has also been linked with a move for fellow midfielder Sam Morsy.

Morsy was linked with a move away from the Proact Stadium in January but Chesterfield tied him down to a long-term contract to end the speculation.

The versatile midfielder Clucas is on Slade’s wanted list.

The 24-year-old has impressed for Chesterfield this season and has helped the Spireites secure a play-off place in League One this season.

He joined the Derbyshire club in September for an undisclosed fee from rivals Mansfield Town.

Clucas has played mostly on the left wing and at left back but has on occasion played as a lone striker, scoring 12 times in 41 appearances.

Cardiff boss Slade has said in recent weeks that he is looking to add fresh faces to his squad this summer after a disappointing season in the Championship.

Don't know anything about them to be honest but I suppose in the Slade mold they'll be hard working and eager to impress at a higher level.

Any player that comes in that is 'hard working and eager to impress' has my support, I still cringe at the money we wasted on players who simply didnt care about our club.

Whittingham made 56 appearances for Aston Villa before signing for us. An odd statement to make

The expectations of some city fans these days are so unreal :!: :!:

We know that buying so called big named players dont always work out.

So why cant Slade shop at lower league clubs after all its these type of players slade knows all to well

You only have to look at Brentford straight up form league 1 and into the championship playoffs with the same players that stated the journey the season be4 (GREAT EXAMPLE)

Something we could`nt do with a premiership squad .

Lets get behind the boys this season drop your expectations and you may enjoy it, The thing is we`ve had it so rosie the past few years.

Look how far the 'big name' signings got us, plenty of league one players are quality for the championship. When we were red many including myself said we'd be happy asl long as we were back in blue and had a team that played for the shirt... Well this is what we are getting! :ayatollah:

These are the type of players who we need . If they are flops they won't have cost millions or in 40 grand a week . Bournemouth had players that wouldn't have excited city supporters but they worked well together and are grafters just what we need

I remember years ago watching Charlie Oatway play, he tried hard but was shit. There needs to be a balance. There are bargains out there, the premier league let talented kids go every season. The problem is our club is so fcuked we have to rely on Slades knowledge base which is league 1 & 2.

The Morcy lad looked a poor mans Gunnarson, against worse players. I can't recall watching the winger and thinking "he is good". For these lads to come in someone has to leave and if its gunnar & Whitts i'll get my hat now, because you simply albeit based on 2 games compare them to anything we got.

Exactly! A poor mans Gunnar, and that speaks volumes! What happened to Adeyemi? Did he pass away or something? Or did Slade put him on his famous "Talent diet", not to get used and fade away? :sladeout:

You must be crazy comparing what Eddie Howe have done over time to the route Slade is going. It's 30 years difference in football philosophy  Shows you haven't got a clue about football! Didn't answer my question though, how does these two raise the standard of what we already got?

I wasn't comparing the managers don't start twisting it I was comparing the players and I think these players will want to play and work hard for this club unlike the players Ole brought in and will want to prove themselves at a higher level time will tell if they are just as good as we have got or better but don't write them off instantly give them a chance. :thumbright: :sladein:

 So Gunnar, Rallls, Whittingham, Dicgakoi, o Keefe, Adeyemi, Noone, Kennedy, Pilkington and Harris won't work for the club? What on earth does Ole have to do with these players being a lot better than the double swoop prodigies? And no, they are not just as good..Not even close.

I was talking about the players that Ole brought in last summer and last January they just came here for Money because we just looked like a Cash cow like Dikacoi he is on a quite a lot of money he came here because we were offering more money than Palace were and Kenwyne Jones we all know about him need I say more and Le fondre came here just because Ole was in charge not for the club these are the type of players I am referring to the players you mention up there are fine there's nothing wrong with adding League 1 players with potential with them though. :thumbright:

Peoples expectations are way to high! If they're anything like Doyle or Kennedy then I'll be happy! At least give them a chance, can't be no worse than Noone who (I think) didn't get a goal or an assist this year?

Re: " CARDIFF READY TO MAKE A DOUBLE SWOOP FOR TWO MIDFIELDE

Unsurprisingly, League 1 is full of players who are League 1 standard.

Undoubtedly there are a number who have the ability to thrive in a higher league but the question is whether Slade can choose the right players from the undoubtedly high number of journeymen and players who will never make the step up from League 1 level.

Are these two "highly rated" and if so by whom?

Have they proven that they have the ability to make the step up or is it just a huge gamble on Slade's part?

Well it is all wrong for two reasons. None of them signings will raise the level on the pitch. We haven't sold anyone who needs replacing. And secondly, and this is the big one. For all this talk of reducing the squad Slade reduced the squad by ONE player. Don't you think the squad needs trimming anymore? You used to have strong opinions about it.. And why and how any players joined Cardiff is nothing but your own guess work, please keep it at that.. From what I know it was the clubs ambitions, but that's my guess work :thumbright:

I'm still all for trimming the squad it needs to be done there will be more going like KJ Dikacoi Noone Lefondre possibly Macheda and I expect we will bring only up to 3 players so we will have a small squad because that's what Slade likes. :thumbright:
