Jacks done the double over Arsenal and Man United...

Mon May 11, 2015 8:53 pm

This season and now 1 point behind qualifying for Europe via league position. :o

Wtf! Is this doing damage to our future youth support? If underestimated it until tonight.

3000 Swans fans travelled. Fair play for a Monday night game that was live on Sky

Credit where it is due - they've had a great season ( even coping well with selling their star striker ). We are light years behind them now :(

No FA Cup and never beat Real Madrid.

Breaks my heart to see them flying and us doing so poorly. Going to forget about them because we're no where near their level now.

I wouldn't say they are light years ahead but they are certainly very impressive.

Surely their footballing model can be copied? What are they doing that makes their brand of football so successful across so many changes in managers?

They have a realistic chance of finishing in the top 6 looking at the table. 2 points behind Tottenham with 2 games left. I cant see us achieving that kind of finish in my life time.

As for copying their brand of football. It is something they have had in place for nigh on 15 years now. Their players know the system, their coaches know the system, the managers are appointed usually from within and already knowing the system, the board ensure the system continues. There is no transition because everything stays the same, in fact slightly improved upon each time.

I don't think its something that can just "be copied", lots have tried and lots get nowhere (blackpool and brighton being case in points). To attempt to copy them we would have to overhaul everything and fully commit to it, its a massive long term gamble I guess and we aren't in the position to do it. Our problem is every time we appoint a new manager, it comes with a new system, new players and new ideas - there is no continuity.

Are you serious?
You've changed your mind yet again?
And you seriously think we have a chance of promotion next season?

We need to plan for the next 10 years. Try to become a decent Championship club, build and go again within a decade. We will loose a lot of young support and talent to Swansea over the next 10 years, they will get bigger and we will become smaller but we will just have to put up with that if we want a stable decent football club to support :bluebird:

Yes I'm serious and I was on the fence about Slade for a while but I am going to give him a chance and see what he can do next season and I have got a good feeling about next season. :thumbright: :sladein:

I still say the gulf is not that big. I understand they will finish high but the biggest hurdle is getting up and staying in the league.

You cannot say there is a large gulf between us and Palace but they are not far behind Swansea on paper.

Apart from their current manager when did they last promote from within?

Re: Jacks done the double over Arsenal and Man United...

The main problem as I see it is that the TV money is due to explode to ensure that those at the top remain at the top. The financial gulf is set to be even greater. Getting promoted is one thing, but remaining as a newcomer is tough. Swansea appear to have weathered the storm and are now established in the PL.

Re: Jacks done the double over Arsenal and Man United...

Tue May 12, 2015 2:48 pm

I still see them as a tiny club punching above their weight, but they are well and truly an established club in the PL. If they ever win the FA Cup or qualify for the Champions League I would just be done with football, it would be just too much to take.

I hated them when we were both on par with each other now their inferior I can't say I give a f**k for them. Maybe when we're back in the same league the hatred will come back.

I wouldn't go that far.Continual investment is always needed in the prem and clubs the size of swansea only need a bit of bad luck with injuries and suspensions and they'll be right in the mire.

Come on, its huge. Id say they are miles ahead of Palace too.

Ask, yourself - When do you think we could ever beat Arsenal home and away and then Man United home and away in the same season with a realistic chance of top 6 with 2 games left... On the back of 4(?) back to back mid table/top half finishes. Im talking off the pitch as well. They are now in the top 30 richest clubs in the world, no debt and an embarrassment of riches on it.

Fair point about the manager, i was getting at Roberto Martinez but I guess he is the only one that managed after knowing the club from within. Just seems like they have done I guess. Any manager they bring in has to fit the style of play rather than the manager fitting the style of play around himself. I admire that.

I agree investment is needed continually, but with the income always increasing, it is possible to achieve this without loads of extra money. Every team has injury problems and in fact they had no 100% fit strikers yesterday. They still beat a class act. Sorry but they are in the PL for the foreseeable future.

Perversely, the worst thing they could do is qualify for Europe.

Funny isn't it but I feel the same way.

Before we went up I was so envious of them but I really don't care about them now.

In fact I feel they're not getting the credit they deserve. They're just behind Southampton who the media have wanked over all season.
