A forum for all things Cardiff City

Russell Slade will be pleased no doubt that he ended the home campaign with a win and he also just about managed to beat a record of the lowest number of home points gained in a championship season by one point.
It is always good to see City win but we should always be honest in defeat or success and today we didn't look that impressive as a set up against an extremely poor and already relegated Blackpool.
Eoin Doyle was enjoying his game today and perhaps there is hope that striker could just be a player of use to us next season but again in all honesty i think Velikonja and Cornelius could have done the business today as well but at the end of the day the lad scored two, albeit from the penalty spot, but it was his overall play that won him the plaudits and not his goals.
It has been a topsy turvy season for City and the fans to say the least and as much as I hear people say Russell Slade is a good bloke and he has had to trim the squad and the wages I still cannot find the positivity to state that he is a man that can take this team forward.
Has he had a fair crack of the whip ?
The answer is a definite no, the fans were never going to give Slade the time for that to happen, people can argue about it all day long but another question should be asked, should Russell Slade have been handed the opportunity to have a crack at the whip ?
Again it is a no for me.
Not because Vincent Tan appointed him but because he has not done anything at the level we are at, with the the squad players we have and had, he has never had success as a manager.
If the club want to move forward and at least try and get people committed back to watching and supporting the club there are many things that need doing and one of the first things is they must replace Russell Slade.
That doesn't mean a manager who is going to spend a fortune but if you have the right people making the appointment based on what a prospective manager has done to date then at least the fans can see that the club is still trying to do its best even if we are not shopping at Harrods.
Slade has said after the game that he was unaffected by the chants of 'Slade Out' during the lap of honour, saying: "It doesn't hurt, I think today maybe showed a lack of understanding."
Russell there is no lack of understanding, the fans simply don't think you are good enough, it is that simple, it is easy to understand.
There are managers out there who can work within parameters and still provide success, Russell Slade is not one of those managers unfortunately for us and the club.
I don't even think or could argue that Slade has done a good job, yes he has slashed the wage bill but the squad that remains is still better than the league position we find ourselves in.
So in my opinion if this club wants to move forward then removing Slade is one of the priorities it must tackle as soon as this campaign is over.

Spot on Carl.
He has to go at the end of the season, there's no two ways about it.
Good to see you again today
Sat Apr 25, 2015 6:14 pm
Slade must be going after what i have heard today but if Slade is still here by August then im giving him a chance see what he really can do and it was nice meeting you today.
Sat Apr 25, 2015 6:18 pm
Russell,
There's no lack of understanding. We know exactly what you are - and that is not good enough to manage a club with aspirations to challenge at the top end of the Championship.
So do us all a favour........
Sat Apr 25, 2015 6:20 pm
Carl, No he has not had as long as other managers, but give him any longer and the next step will be relegation under him and empty stadium
Sat Apr 25, 2015 6:24 pm
In my opinion he has had enough time to at least show some indication that he has the ability to fashion a team and style of play which will see us "progress" and I have seen NO indication that, given more time and another transfer window, we would do anything other than struggle badly next season.
Sat Apr 25, 2015 6:26 pm
Well said Carl. Slade simply is not good enough and has to go. If he doesn't I can only foresee another wasted summer of poor signings and wasted money, with him sacked by October and yet another season written off. He has to go now to allow a new man time to bed in. The fact he had Gabbidon on the bench today instead of a youngster spoke volumes!!! Even Ole gave youth a chance after we were relegated!
Sat Apr 25, 2015 6:28 pm
Continuity is what's needed. Slade needs support from everyone, not to be undermined by so called loyal supporters. The man deserves a chance this summer and into next season, as he has not been bad enough to be sacked. I'm not a fan of sacking managers for the sake of it, and for what it's worth I think our last 3 managers were dismissed at the right time. It is not the right time to sack Slade, and that attempt to call for Slade out by that group of 20 or so so-called supporters this afternoon was embarrassing and inappropriate.
I don't mind saying that I was underwhelmed by the appointment of Slade. But , he has done what he was asked to do, by stopping the team free falling to relegation, and has slashed the wage bill at the same time. He deserves a chance to build his own team in the summer, and in the meantime we should all get behind him.
For the time being, it should be a definite
Sat Apr 25, 2015 6:32 pm
And no matter how much people moan and stamp their feet, he will be there come August. So get used to it and get behind him.
Sat Apr 25, 2015 6:35 pm
We are not daft......We do understand the situation, unless there is anarchy in the back ground.
I am not seeing any crumbs of comfort. Today's hoofing to Doyle said it all, there is no ambition to play the game.
Fabio is an attacking asset, but confined to an old fashioned full back he is not even average. There is little pace in the team, but no compensation of that.
This should be a lesson learnt for Slade and any other managers Cardiif City approach- Do it on your own terms, don't fail on the owners....Young and Gabbidon are not good enough to be on the management team, you should have had your own team.

I think he will go once the season the ends, only my opinion but if Tan does listen to Choo then I can see one outcome.
Good to meet you too Ryan

Why does he deserves a chance to build his own team in the summer, and in the meantime we should all get behind him.
By free fall, this must mean we fell from a height ? The relegation threat was drama queens on message boards. We only just beat a team that were relegated a month before the end of the season.
We can't allow this guy to buy and sell players.
Sat Apr 25, 2015 7:00 pm
Hope that's true , I'd take anyone over Slade
Sat Apr 25, 2015 7:46 pm
I think he gets another season to offload the shite overpaid players that we have in abundance
Effectively doing tans dirty work then he will be binned and I hope to god the club Ggo for someone like hasslebaink or Robinson or of that mould to build a side from a small budget but play attractibe football
I hope Slade if still here next season gets it together and gives us some entertainment but I am also not silly enough to know that even if we play good football people still won't want him here
He's in a lose lose situation really
If he does stay I really hope he heat our backing even if he's not liked because next season could be a real struggle with him at the helm and the club will need us to be more vocal than ever but positive even if we don't agree with the manager
Sat Apr 25, 2015 7:49 pm
He has to go
If he stays next season id instantly take any position above the bottom three as i can only see us going one way.
Sat Apr 25, 2015 8:01 pm
A closer look at his results should tell you nothing will change with him in charge
He has done little or nothing against the teams in the top ten the majority of his results are against the middle to lower sides in the division.
Hasent got the tactical knowledge or nous to operate in this division as his overall career record shows.
The most insane choice of manager in all the years of following city and I started in 1966
Sat Apr 25, 2015 8:31 pm
The big problem here and what a lot of people are missing are next years parachute payments will be the final decent installment, alas i fear on the evidence so far Slade will not get the players or them playing to a system needed for a decent push at promotion next season and will blow what i see as our last throw of the dice for any real relative possibility of going up next term
I would love to be proven wrong but somehow i just do not have enough confidence in the guy to utilise any financial backing he may be given to improve on this seasons abysmal showing.

To be fair Carl, I think he has had a fair crack of the whip.
Majority of fans didn't want him in October, but had changed their attitude by the start of December with a good run from his first 8 games (16 points from 24)
Since then no wins in December, 1 win in January and 1 in February. To be fair the fans would turn on any manager with that form.
From December he's had 26 games and taken 30 points from 78.
If he had kept his initial form from first 8 games up and taken 52 points from 78 we would now be on 81 points and pushing for automatic promotion next weekend.

Slade has had to lower the wage bill and has had a raw deal But.
The football is so boring to watch I get a lump in my throat so many times things happen in a game that are school boy stuff its frustrating to watch.
Under malky we had a team of hard workers that played for each other the club the fans with pride thats all a cardiff city fan wants.
What we see in slades team is the opposite and we are 20 points of the top six thats miles away from what we are used to.
Tan should of changed us back to blue got a positive manager in we could of moved on.
Slades never been the man from the start and that fact is more evident now his football is lacklustre and boring its dire.
Hes done a job in doing as hes told cutting the wage bill and keeping us up now he has to go and move forward next season with a better manager and this is the wish of every city fan.
If he stays its going to be very quite a ccs next season again watching crap low league style football.
If the people running our club cant see this then we are screwed.

Yes Slade has had to lower the wage bill but all the players who left were never in the team apart from brayford and ALF.
I don't think he can hide behind that
Sun Apr 26, 2015 1:16 pm
Well said, Carl
Mon Apr 27, 2015 8:50 am
Had enough of a chance, although given the cost cutting and decisions that have been made by Tan I don't blame him.
Still not the man to take us up though.

More than fair!
