Cardiff City star Alex Revell set to start in place of Kenwyne Jones against Rotherham

By Steve Tucker
Bluebirds manager Russell Slade has given a clear indication Revell will get the nod against his former club on Tuesday night
Mon 2nd March 2015
Revell was in the Rotherham team who defeated Slade’s Orient in the League One play-off final at Wembley Stadium last season scoring a blistering long-range goal in that encounter.
Cambridge-born Revell, 31, has scored five goals this season, four for Rotherham before he signed for Cardiff.
He netted at Norwich City for the Bluebirds, but has now gone five matches without a goal and has found himself kicking his heels on the bench of late. But he could partner fellow new signing Eoin Doyle as the Bluebirds look to bounce back from their 1-0 home defeat to Wolves on the weekend.
Cardiff City manager Russell Slade is hoping to follow up the welcome win over WiganCardiff City manager Russell Slade
Jones looks likely to be rested for the midweek encounter.
The Trinidad & Tobago international is the Bluebirds’ top-scorer with 13 strikes this campaign, but is without a goal in his last five outings.
Slade looks set put Jones on the bench seeing Revell as the man to strike against his former club and help return the Bluebirds to winning ways.

Madness! Revel is a terrible player. Works hard but offers nothing else. He has no business playing at this level. Slade out!

Far more worrying for me is playing a centre half at right back (his mistake cost us the goal on Saturday) and a right back at left back.
No sense to me whatsoever

Another mad decision by our clueless manager.
Let me guess, he'd drop Manga if Turner was fit?

He's one of the best headers in the league, so he does offer something else.

Could be a good decision. Though I'm no fan of Slade I thought Jones looked jaded and ineffective v. Wolves. Revell has better movement, though he needs a goal to give him confidence.

Shocking.
Not a clue.

KWJ leads the line well
Slade is wank

Revell is the worst striker I have seen since the days of Cameron toshack, Andy Saville and Tony Philliskirk

I'd take Revell over Macheda any day

Revell works hard I just don't think he is up to this level but then again it's hard to judge our strikers when our midfield is so shit at providing strikers with service
Mon Mar 02, 2015 9:31 pm
If there is anyone who should be dropped it Slade.
Go you muppet.
Mon Mar 02, 2015 9:39 pm
Should have done this week's ago.
Jones is a decent player but makes very few runs and runs out of steam quickly.
He's been overused recently, playing more minutes in the last few weeks than he normally does is a season .
Let Revell work the defence for 60 minutes then bring Jones on fresh.

how can any one judge any city striker when they obviously dont get service required to score goals! every striker we have or had have been proven scorers in the league they played in but come to city mmmm they become worst players in history?? jones on sat was not interested until wittts went off only then did he show any enfusiasm, and that was because all the other players were working their socks off for team!!

Allan, I have to agree with you
Over to you Slade sort it out

I would've considered dropping Jones but not for Revell. I thought he might have brought in Adeyemi alongside Gunnars and played McAleny just in front with 1 up top.
Mon Mar 02, 2015 10:31 pm
Thank f**k for that, im sick of watching how lazy he is and how much non movement up front we have with kenwynne up front. Also the amount of shots he scuffs sunday league style. Yeh hes scored the most goals for us but i just aint a fan he is useless imo, doyle and revell or doyle and mcaleny would be better for our side imo because of their work rate and movement which imo would create more chances for the team as a whole

Jones sticks his head on to the long balls that are hoofed up the pitch. I don't see him doing anything else, he offers no threat with his feet and his fitness/interest can't see him through 90 minutes. If we can work out a system/ formation using our midfielders (playing Adeymi, Gunnarsson, Kennedy and McAleny or Ralls) then I think we will see more of what Doyle and Revell can do (or can't as the case may be). I'm just hoping that Trollope has the ability to work this out as this appears to be well beyond Slade.

f**k Revell hes shite I'd rather see McCeleny up front with Doyle bit of pace and movement! As for Revell whose just as lazy

I'm afraid that is simply not true. He's woeful in every single department, apart from work rate and attitude. He has no business starting for us when we have the likes of Mcaleny and Doyle in our squad.

Totally agree with this. I know some love him but i am sick to death of watching Jones jumping up in the air to head long balls and nothing else. It bores me to death.

Can someone explain to me, how Connolly was the only defender to take the blame for the Wolves goal. He did miss a tackle but both Morrison and Manga had the chance to make a tackle or clear the ball. As well as Bruno played,he was the one who flicked the ball to Sako. I agree Connolly shouldn't be picked at full back but Slade doesn't seem to want to pick Declan at left back so Peltier could return to right back.

Those of you writing Revell off, what do you base this on ?
Rotherham fans rated him and up at Norwich he scored one and set one up.
He's hardly had a sniff since.
He also had a really good game against us earlier in the season, winning more ball against our centre halfs than anyone else Ive seen this season.
Give the lad a chance.

Each to their own. I base my opinion on what I've seen, and I'm not impressed in the slightest. I also base it on the fact he's 31 and has played most of his career in league 1 and 2, where he has achieved a very average goal per game record. I also base it on a conversation I had with a friend, who has played professionally with Revel, and he is stunned he is playing at this level. However, I would never get on his back at a game as I do like his work rate and attitude but as we are discussing it on a forum I think he's nowhere near good enough for a club that should have been looking to challenge for promotion to the premier league.
Mon Mar 02, 2015 11:06 pm
I thought he did well against us a few months ago and have no problem with him and although I agree that any striker would struggle with our current lack of creativity I don't think he will ever be a prolific goal scorer or better than we already have or had.

I like this decision. Quite excited for the game now. Been waiting for this partnership since we signed Doyle.

I can't believe revell over Jones Jones has far more physical strength and is the only one scoring and he's good header of the ball unlucky not to get the equaliser on Saturday but who ever he picks we got to give our support City will win tonight two nil

Connolly failed to get the ball from a sliding tackle but did you miss the Wolves player go past Manga as if he was not there? And Morrison also missed the tackle and then Manga kicked it right into the path of the scorer and said - there you go slot that in.
And you blame Connolly?
In my opinion Connolly should be centre have & not full back.
With regards to Revel, I haven't been at all impressed but let's give him his chance.
