Rapist footballer Ched Evans claims he has 'fresh evidence' which will help get his conviction overturned

The former Sheffield United player released a statement on his website stating his legal team had made new submission to his appeal case

A spokesman for the prosecution confirmed that fresh submissions have been received.

Rapist footballer Ched Evans claims he has “fresh evidence” which will help him get his conviction overturned.

A statement on the former Sheffield United player’s website says his legal team have made new submissions to the Criminal Cases Review Commission (CCRC).

The 26-year-old launched an appeal in July last year and the CCRC confirmed his case has been fast-tracked.

Evans says his case is now “supported by previously unavailable fresh evidence” which was put forward at the end of last week.

The CCRC will decide whether the conviction should be referred back to the Court of Appeal as potentially unsafe.

A spokesman confirmed that fresh submissions have been received. He declined to give any further details.




The statement on Evans’ website reads: “On Friday 23rd January, 2015 further detailed submissions – supported by previously unavailable fresh evidence that we believe strengthens Ched’s application – were lodged with the Commission.”

Evans has employed a private detective, Russ Whitfield, to bolster his case.

The player was released from prison in October after serving half of a five-year sentence for raping the 19-year-old woman in a hotel room in Rhyl, north Wales, in 2011.



A previous appeal against conviction has been refused.

The website is run by Karl Massey, the father of Evans’s fiancee Natasha Massey who has stood by him despite the rape conviction.

Mr Massey declined to comment on what new evidence had been forwarded to the CCRC.

Evans’ lawyer Shaun Draycott was unavailable for comment, as was his private investigator Mr Whitfield.

If he is exhounorarated will his so called victim be punished? If the allegations are fabricated surely that is a crime that is equally bad!

in your opinion. it seems a strange conviction on the face of it, but then again the court had access to plenty of evidence and decided that evans had knowledge of the womans lack of consent they could say this with sufficient certainty that it was beyond reasonable doubt. i.e. they were 99%+ certain of this.

The police suggested to her that she should allow them to take the case forward as they believe she was raped. She had no idea either way.

The first man was acquitted as the jury felt she had given consent which was the reason they went back to the hotel together.

Ched however misrepresented himself to the staff to obtain a room key, let himself in and then left via the fire exit. The jury believe she was in no state to give consent to Ched.

If he is acquitted can the girl then be named?

If you have sex with someone who's unconscious or so drunk they don't know what's going on or haven't concented because of said reasons it's classed as rape. He took advantage of this girl.

She said yes to him surely she was awake and aware (i don't care how drunk you are ) you know if you are saying yes to it.

She met up witht he other guy after work, went back to his hotel with him - You could consider this consent

Did she meet up with Evans during the night - No
Did she go back to the hotel with Evans - No
Did Evans lie to the night porter to get a key - yes

Was it rape - i don't know, but a jury thought so

Don't like him, when he scored against us he really milked it in front of us, but this case was always flawed, if he innocent and wins the appeal then good luck to him, and hope every one who has slagged him off all apologise personally to him, if he doesn't win then he is finished with football

I just read on gary glitters website that he's not an alleged child molester, shows him outside a school but his penis is still in his trousers, he's got no sweets out and isn't touching a kid!

It will be interesting to see what the evidence is, If it turns out that she has purposefully deceived the jury by saying she cant remember but has now been caught admitting that she can then they should throw the book at her. Some of the above posters are correct in that she has never made an allegation about anybody but if she has omitted the fact that she has consented or on this case was lucid enough then she essentially perjured herself

The key to this is what "new" evidence is now available.

What everyone has to remember is that he was convicted on the evidence by 12 jurors who are people like you and I not just one individual judge.

Clearly they all believed "beyond reasonable doubt" that he was guilty. Therefore, unless there is evidence that was not put in front of the orginal jury, we have to accept that he is guilty.

My point was the jury was told she was intoxicated to the point she was unable to walk etc someone as drunk as that normally don't know what there doing.

yes I do know the case.....HE HAS BEEN SET UP. Oh and by the way, my daughters don't get paralytic to the point where they don't know what's going on around them unlike that girl, or so she says and they certainly do NOT go back to a hotel with a guy to have sex.
Anyway let us wait to see what this new evidence is and if he loses his appeal then I will admit I was wrong but I will expect you to admit you were wrong if he is found innocent.
