Cardiff City legend Craig Bellamy returns to Bluebirds in coaching role
Tuesday Dec 30th 2014
Cardiff City legend Craig Bellamy has returned to the club in a coaching role, we can reveal.
The former Wales and Bluebirds striker is working with the potential stars of the future three times a week after taking a post with the club’s Academy.
Bellamy, who played the last Premier League match of his career for Cardiff against Chelsea in May, is coaching players in age groups from under-12 upwards.
The ex-Cardiff captain, who previously revealed he was offered the manager’s job on a temporary basis following Malky Mackay’s departure, has almost completed his coaching badges. He is keen to put something back into the future of his home-town club before taking on his first senior management role.
Bellamy, 35, called a halt to his playing days at the end of City’s first season in the top flight, ending a professional career which had started with Norwich 18 years earlier.
He scored 169 goals in well over 500 appearances during his career, firing 16 league goals in two spells with the Bluebirds.
“Our under-12s and under-13s in particular enjoy working with Craig and he enjoys working with them,” said Academy manager James McCarthy.
“He sees their exuberance and need to learn. Craig has come in over the last few weeks and helps out with teams from under-12 to under-18. The young players have so much respect for him.
“During his first week back at the club he ran a finishing session with our under-12 and under-13 strikers, including one-on-one situations.
“In the next match one youngster scored a hat-trick against Swansea City and two of the goals came from moves Craig had worked on with him. He has been exceptional.
“Craig is working with us because he wants to become a better coach. Working with our young players and planning sessions helps him with that. He cares about the game and this football club.”

We're the club that considers a scum bag like Robin Friday a legend. Did nothing to aid the team, but stuck his fingers up at Miliya Aleksic and shat in Lawrensons bag. On the pitch, Bellamy should be considered a legend over the likes of Friday, who was pissed and stoned most of the time, robbed off his team mates and mostly was awol. Friday was a liability!

Well put Ray.
Bellamy is an inspiration to many youngsters who want to teach the top.
He served his time well. And fought for his success.
I for one am proud to have seen him in the blue of Cardiff City.

Agreed Allan, what we do not know is if he is a genuinely good coach as this will be his first role, but I think he merits the chance to work with the youth academy, has shown desire to get qualified

With all the other shite that is going on at the moment, I cant for the life of me understand why anyone would think having Bellamy back in some capacity at the club would be a bad thing?
Why the f**k does he not get the respect he deserves, a proud Welshman!! So what he had a glittering career and came for two spells as a player in his latter years - I never saw anything but passion and effort when he pulled on the shirt! So what he supports Liverpool and maybe using the role for experience before he moves elsewhere - Doesn't this bode well for us for the future? I'm sure he'd like to manage us one day and why not? Not exactly a country that has got a depth and breadth of quality when it comes to managers is it??
C'mon give the guy a break - we've got enough serious shite to worry about without having a pop at man wore the shirt with pride!

Allan, I can't fault the guy on this one. He is doing it for free and (as stated elsewhere) the youngsters look up to him, so they are far more likely to listen to him and learn
