" UPDATED "

' Tan unmoved by kit protests '

Cardiff owner Vincent Tan insists he will not be swayed by protests from fans who want the club to change back to their traditional blue colours.

Supporters groups have announced they will hold protests in January against the club's red strip which was introduced by Tan in 2012 following his takeover two years earlier.

Supporters have been publicly critical of the change but Tan claims he had their support for the switch when he took over the club and has called for them to support Russell Slade's men in their push for promotion from the Sky Bet Championship.

"Cardiff will stay red and we hope the fans will think carefully and support the club so that we can get promoted to the Premier League," he told Sky Sports News HQ. "They shouldn't protest, they should support the team. They should support Russell and his boys so that we can all do well for everyone, including for the fans.

"They should know that when I first invested in the club, I said I will put in up to £100million if they were to let me change the colour to red and to use the red dragon as the symbol and replace the Bluebirds emblem. I believe, after all, the red dragon is the symbol and is the national flag of Wales.

"At that time everyone agreed so I agreed, I kept my part of the bargain. I have invested, now, more than B£100million.

"So if they are protesting, are they keeping their part of the bargain? "The head of the supporters trust and many organisations supported the change to red because at that time they said they had no choice, if not the club would go into bankruptcy.

"Now that I put in the money, they have changed their mind. "So I kept my part of the bargain, I think I am honourable and I hope and wish they will be honourable for the sake of Cardiff City Football Club."

He added: "If they want we can talk but you can't force me through protest."

City currently sit eight points off the play-off places in 11th.

The only bit he has a point with is Malky, he isn't going to get Wigan promoted without the money is he ???

He shouldn't pick a fight with City fans it's like poking a tiger with a stick.......

Tan must have a sad life or is as bad as I thought, to want to say all this on Xmas Day.

And this is why the protests suggestions are so weak... £100mil of investment... Bull. £100million of loans with 7% interest.

Did he drop his interest?

He is a stubborn man. If he stayed blue he would of been a hero now to stubborn to go back.

Culturally it'll look weak for him to change he will lose his control factor amongst his peers

Just for the avoidance of any doubt the Trust most certainly did not agree to his proposal to change to red. Let us not beat around the bush here. That is a blatant lie on the part of Vincent Tan. From the very first meeting at which the rebranding was first publicly announced I n May 2012 and at which 3 Trust board members were present (all of whom expressed their strong opposition to the change) the Trust board has consistently been against the move from blue to red.Since then an increasing percentage of Trust members have expressed their wish to actively oppose the rebrand.

The voted in representatives of supporters groups (a term I prefer to "leaders" as the latter suggests a degree of self appointment) have a love of the club in common , not an agenda against it.Just because they don't follow the same level of unquestioning subservience that he is used to from his employees seems to cause him a problem that he is uncomfortable in dealing with.Rather than take up the several opportunities he has been offered to discuss these issues he reverts to more and more ridiculous comments through a tame press conduit (who did pay for that Sky reporters "jolly" to Malaysia?)

If VT is that confident the he is always right , why not have a live radio or TV debate to have a full and
frank exchange of views so all sides can get their views and reasoning across. No question of hidden agendas then, but full exposure for a wide population to assess and form opinions on.

I think people need to know what exactly the supporters groups agreed to in the first place
I agree with him that once agreed they can't change their mind when things are on a down not an up !

I think it is the leaders of some of the groups who have fucked up from the start , they shouldn't have been speaking on behalf of the fans it should have gone to a season ticket holder vote to see the real feelings amongst fans IMO

Keith, You know some of my thoughts on the Trust, but your 100% right in what youve just posted, none of you ever said yes, in fact only 3 people actually ever did in that room. Others were belittled and made to feel they had no other choice, but not once did they actually nod and lick Tans feet/arse like they were asked to. I have always been taught that on Christmas Day our thoughts should be of "Peace on earth and goodwill to all men" but sadly I can find NO goodwill towards this man.

As always VT is being selective is recalling the terms of HIS Re-brand proposal. His investment was to include a new state of the art training ground, Where is it? and more important than anything he promised a "Debt for Equity" exchange on his loans and again, What has happened there?

He may have spent £100m but how much of that is down to his mismanagement and that of the yes men he has put in charge of the club. He still wants to blame MM for everything that has gone wrong, was he faultless, NO, but he clearly isn't responsible for ALL the financial losses during his time as manager of our club. VT as majority shareholder and the controlling mind at our club is, in my opinion, ultimately responsible for the financial problems at the club.

Irrespective of what offer is put on the table next month regarding ST it is vital that ALL current ST Holders delay on renewing thier ST until this man gets the message.

No Blue No Renew that has to be the clear message to this idiot.

At that first meeting I refer to in this thread I asked Alan Whitely , the then CEO , and Julian Jenkins to carry out such a poll of all season ticket holders. They declined to do so on the basis that the answer they knew they would get would not be liked by VT who would just ignore its results anyway. The club have been asked to carry out the same poll on a number of occasions since through various CEOs and all have refused to do so for the same reason given.

I don't know the truth about if fan groups agreed or not. What I do know is all fan groups are only a small percentage of our fan base . No decisions should be made by anyone other than the majority not the minority. To many people think they are the voice of the real fan.

no one asked me what i want

time for folks to vote with there feet, i can understand if folks still travel away, and even away day organizers

May well have asked but you should have insisted ! in all fairness the trust do a lot of good work on certain things so I am not anti trust or anything like that .
The supporters groups were very very slow in campaigning against this rebrand . In fact in my eyes it took bluebirds unite to wake them up and give them some bollocks to upset the apple cart !

The "Debt to Equity" for me is the crux of the matter.

I was a "reluctant red" who was willing to accept the bastardization of our kit if it meant that all debts would be wiped out and all debt turned to equity. At least then we would have had a viable club to hopefully pass on one day to owners who may turn us back to our true colours and identity.

Tan now suggests that fans aren't keeping their word when he has clearly broken his word by not converting the debt to equity.

If only Jim White had the balls to ask Mr Tan why he has gone back on his promise to convert the debt to equity.

When asked he said he doesn't know if he would would sell Cardiff if they are promoted back to the Premier League but he may stay, it depends on the fans.

Claimed that the leaders of supporters groups have an agenda against the club.

To be fair to tan in his mind he's right about his investment but I got to question what the Cardiff city board at the time told tan or his representatives ? It's all good fans saying what was said at meetings etc but I wonder if the board is partly to blame ?

I agree to this tan is starting to Piss me off with this latest out burst

In my report for CCMB dated 08/05/2012, I wrote:

"A straw poll of the thirteen supporters present was conducted on the subject of the changes to the club's colours and badge. One was in favour; two were indifferent, while the remainder were opposed and in some cases very strongly opposed. However, it was acknowledged by all present that the views of those attending the meeting were not necessarily representative of the fanbase as a whole."

I further clarified that point in a blog piece I wrote on 03/06/2012:

"Towards the end of the meeting on 8 May, a straw poll of the thirteen fans in attendance was held on the subject of the re-branding. This poll was conducted by club officials on the clear understanding of all present that the opinions being expressed were personal and in no way representative of the membership of the Cardiff City Supporters’ Club, the Cardiff City Supporters’ Trust, the Cardiff City Away Travel Group or the club’s wider fanbase."

Annis, listening to what Tan said today,if he is being honest then his statement suggests that he was lied to from within, as TLG stated at the time the poll conducted was a personal opinion to each of us and not representative of any group.

So who told Tan the fans would back the rebrand ?

Those present from our club were Wayne Nash,Alan Whitley & Julian Jenkins.

I wonder what if they all told tan things were ok and the fans agreed to it ? It's a f*cking mess
