Updated Daily :ayatollah: ' CARDIFF CITY ' :ayatollah:

The likely line-ups
AFC Bournemouth (4-4-2):  A Boruc; S Francis, T Elphick (capt), S Cook, C Daniels; M Ritchie, H Arter, A Surman, M Pugh; C Wilson, Y Kermorgant.

Cardiff City (4-4-2):  D Marshall (capt); M Connolly, S Morrison, B Turner, J Brayford; C Noone, A Gunnarsson, P Whittingham, M Daehli; A Le Fondre, K Jones.

Cardiff:  The big decision for Russell Slade is what to do about covering the absence of injured Anthony Pilkington. Will Kim Bo-kyung be given a second chance? Should Mats Daehli get the nod? Is Ravel Morrison the right man to step in?

My feeling is that Norwegian Daehli is the man for a big occasion in Bournemouth and he’s desperate for a first Bluebirds start since September. Slade won’t make too many changes.

City are some way from their fluent best, but they have earned 17 points from nine matches since then new regime took charge.

Anthony Pilkington misses out through injury

Bournemouth:  Eddie Howe won’t tinker too much with his Cherries team, but he could make a change in attack. Top scorer Callum Wilson is back and while Brad Pitman started alongside him last time out he may make way against Cardiff.

Yann Kermorgant looks set to step in and partner Wilson up front.

' UPDATE ON CITY'S INJURIES '

Bruno Manga now back doing full training.
Kagisho Dikcagoi is out till at least Feb 2015.
Matt Connolly still struggling with his calf, but should be fit for Bournemouth game.
Anthony Pilkinghton another 2 weeks with his hamstring.

Declan John came through another full DVP game at Millwall last night, along with Kadeem Harris :thumbright: :thumbright:

Mat Daehli must believe he is going to start at Bournemouth after Russell said that Kimbo needs to show a bit more.

Ravel Morrison & Fabio Da Silva raring to start a full game :thumbright: :thumbright:

Adeyemi will be hoping for a chance to prove himself in the centre of midfield.

Cardiff recorded their first away win of their travels this season on their last outing away to Watford :thumbright:

High flying Bournemouth are 3rd in the league having just beaten Wolves away, and are on an 11 game unbeaten run. They are likely to be full of confidence ahead of City's visit.

' BOURNEMOUTH TEAM NEWS '

Probably the same starting lineup who beat Wolves even though Adam Smith did well at left back after coming on for Charlie Daniels.

They have scored 2 or more goals in 7 of the last 8 games . Scoring 24 goals in those 8.

If we play like we have the last 2 games we will take a kicking .

Saying that we play better against teams at the top and I can see the players making up for the rotherham performance with an exciting 2-2 draw, which will be a great result imo against the in form team in the league .

Bournemouth play Liverpool in the Capital One Cup the following Weds.

So let's hope they are more focused on that.

Bournemouth are averaging two goals a game over their last few matches, so it's going to be a real battle to get a point

But hey, this is Cardiff City so anything can happen.

Whatever . . . I'm looking forward to a great weekend down there

" What style can we expect from Cardiff against AFCB? "

If you look at Cardiff's last away game at Watford you might expect the Bluebirds to play in a similar way considering that Watford are a fast passing side like AFCB and were playing at home on that day. Russell Slade has seen his team get success with playing a few long balls up to Kenwyne Jones, while the predatory nature of Adam Le Fondre in the box and Frederico Mechada's sharp finishing is something that Tommy Elphick and Steve Cook will have to deal with.

It has been a reasonable start for Slade and while Cardiff are a side that will let the opposition enjoy affair amount of possession they tend to strike really hard on the break and they have plenty of height with Kenwyne Jones in their team. I never felt that Cardiff were a bad team even when they started off slowly in the Championship under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. They showed that even in the first game after Solskjaer's reign was over by getting a draw away at Derby County. Many of their squad have Premier League experience and AFCB will have to try and dominate players like Pilkington, Whittingham and Gunnarsson if they are to control the game.

Cardiff are perhaps not as adventurous as they were early on in the season. They have tightened up and are not conceding as many goals, although Bolton get the better of them at the start of November. It would be handy if Liam Feeney could hand on some tips as he was Cardiff's chief tormentor that day scoring a brace.

I'm sure Cardiff will set out to upset AFCB's passing game with a few testing long balls, but the Cherries's central defenders should be used to that by now. Eddie Howe will be concentrating more on how AFCB can hurt Cardiff and look to get the side's attacking players showing that the kind of skill they had around the box at Wolves is something they can replicate on a regular basis against any of the Championship teams.

There was a good win yesterday against an Exeter City team for most of the AFCB squad who you would imagine will be used to line up against Liverpool next week. It was good to hear that O'Kane and Stanislas had especially strong games.

This Saturday our visitors are one of the sides relegated from the Premier League last season in Cardiff City.

Will we see the Blue Birds playing in blue instead of their now normal home colours of red?

We have already beaten them on their own ground this season 3-0 in the Football League Cup.

Cardiff sit in 9th place 6 points behind the Cherries, they drew their last game at home in a 0-0 draw with Rotherham, previously they won 1-0 at Watford.

AFC Bournemouth go into this game unbeaten in 10, but the last 2 home games have ended in 2-2 draws.

I'm hoping, but not expecting, a more even game as we are lining up against a similar 4-4-2 set up. Quite often, it seems we are outnumbered & outplayed all around the pitch due to Slade being unable to see or change the tactics accordingly.
One can live in hope!

' Russell Slade: 'Cardiff City need to score goals' '

By Sian Cowper, Reporter

viewtopic.php?f=2&t=151214 :thumbright:

Friday, December 12, 2014

Russell Slade has said that Cardiff City need to create opportunities to score more goals during their Championship match against Bournemouth this weekend.

The Bluebirds have lost only once in their last six outings, but have averaged just a goal a game during that spell.

The manager told the club's website: "Of course, looking specifically towards tomorrow, three clean sheets in four games says we are looking solid.

"Now the key is to balance between staying solid and still being able to penetrate, create chances and score goals. We're unbeaten in four games, and now we'd like to get ourselves into the position that Bournemouth are.

"I've known Eddie [Howe] for an awfully long time. He has Bournemouth well organised and they will be a tough nut to crack. On Saturday we will be both do everything we can to win, of course, and he will know how much I want Cardiff to come out on top. We've done well against the teams flying high in the league his season, and there's no reason why we can't continue that."

Cardiff sit ninth in the table ahead of this weekend's fixtures.

Midfielder Anthony Pilkington misses out with a hamstring injury, although manager Russell Slade said the Irish international was ahead of schedule in his recovery.

Defender Bruno Ecuele Manga returns to the squad following a knee problem, but Slade will assess his match fitness before the game.
